    Solid Sequel
A well written sequel. This book continues where the last book left off.
It's not a five star book because the plot was a little obvious in places, as well as being a little too drawn out.
So if you liked the first one get this. If not go read the first one.
Loved it, loved the first one too

    Reviewed by Kindleobsessed
6 or 7 months ago I ran across this book and instantly felt the need to read it, unfortunately (as would be my luck) there was no Kindle version. So there I was... watching it taunt me from my wish list until finally I decided to put my big girl panties on and actually purchase the physical book. This final shove into adulthood however, did not come without reservation, after 7 months of updated comments and crap reviews, I was a little bit doubtful of how good it was actually going to be.
Of course... I had to judge for myself, and I'm glad I did.
See, there is this newly formed phenomenon called the "Meyer's Effect" it rears its ugly little head anytime a YA novel is released and spouts the now daunting words "Vampire" and "Romance." Regardless of the premise or plot intentions of the book, people are automatically inclined to compare and contrast it to the "Twilight" series.
Please people, for the love of all that is holy, you have to stop doing this.
"Eternal" was fantastic in an entirely NEW way. The story follows 2 lead characters, Miranda, who due to no fault of her own ends up a vampire, and Zachary, her guardian angel, whom...coincidentally is the reason she is now guzzling blood instead of Sprite.
Zachary, overwhelmed by guilt and self pity turns to a life of drinking and partying, that is... until his boss, Archangel Michael, sends him on a mission.
    Save Miranda...and save yourself.
The story is a wonderful journey of determination and the ability to maintain free will, regardless of your current circumstances.
The writing was a tad choppy in places (mostly the beginning) but once the plot was in full swing, I hardly even noticed. I will make it very clear though that I thought the ending was brilliant and fitting, I don't see how softening it would have done the characters any justice. (Trust me when I say this was a matter of much debate in the previously mentioned reviews.)
There were personalized coffins complete with Nascar emblems, 1 serving of maid tongue, a vampire debutant ball, holy water dunking tanks for those who misspeak, the nosiest father on the planet, and one hell of a killer battle scene.
If you like vampires...and you like sarcastic pissy fallen angels...buy the book you will enjoy it. But if you are looking for a smattering of romance and heartfelt speeches, better luck next time, cause this is not for you.
Happy reading my fellow Eternals and remember: cherubs aren't angels, they are just fat little short dudes with curly hair.
    Page Turner! Must Read!
Miranda is a normal teenage girl.

    Title: Finnikin of the Rock
    Author: Melina Marchetta
    Narrator: Tom Wren
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 12 hrs and 13 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-08-09
    Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 9 votes
    Genres: Teens, Sci-Fi & Fantasy
    Publisher's Summary:
At the age of nine, Finnikin is warned by the gods that he must sacrifice a pound of flesh in order to save the royal house of his homeland, Lumatere. And so he stands on the rock of three wonders with his childhood friend Prince Balthazar and the prince's cousin, Lucian, and together they mix their blood.
Lumatere is safe, until the "five days of the unspeakable", when the king and queen and their children are slaughtered in the palace, and an imposter king takes the throne. A curse is put on Lumatere, which traps those caught inside and forces thousands of others to roam the land as exiles, dying of fever and persecution in foreign camps.
But 10 years later, Finnikin is led to another rock to meet the young novice, Evanjalin - a girl plagued by dark dreams, who holds the key to their return to the land of light.

    Mispronounced words were distracting
    Any additional comments?
I have really mixed feelings about this one. The audiobook was so, so good in some ways and really not good in others. Wren's narration was well done for the most part and some of his voices - like those of the older men in particular - were brilliant. But other voices were awful - Froi's was one that was very grating. And certain words and names were so badly mispronounced it drove me batty every time I heard them. I could also hear him swallowing at times which wasn't very pleasant. But I found myself loving the book perhaps even more than I did the first time, nonetheless. Still, I probably wouldn't recommend this as a way to experience Finnikin - certainly not for the first time.
Top Title, Top Author, Top Reader
If you could sum up Finnikin of the Rock in three words, what would they be?
    The best ever.
Who was your favorite character and why?
Evanjalin is a continual surprise throughout the book. She's gutsy, independent, fit and ruthless to her own detriment when she believes there's a need.
Which character as performed by Tom Wren was your favorite?
All characters were read as the author wrote them. Tom Wren trusts this author completely. His voice reading this text has the music and rhythm of poetry. Frankly, they are all excellent.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. Over and over. I've just begun listening 4.
    Any additional comments?
There are so many beautiful quotes to call upon from this book. A short one repeated several times is this: Be prepared for the worst, my love, for it lives next door to the best.
Melina Marchetta, Finnikin of the Rock
And a longer passage: Finn, listen!" Trevanion said, his voice raw."I prayed to see you one more time. It's all I prayed for. Nothing more. And my prayers were answered. Go east, I'll lend them west."
"We have a dilemma, then," Finnikin said fiercely. "Because I prayed that you would grow old and hold my children in your arms as you held me. My prayers have not been answered yet, Trevanion. So whose prayer is more worthy? Yours or mine?
Melina Marchetta, Finnikin of the Rock
    Amazing!
I loved this book. I have read and listened to it so many times I have lost count!!!
    Love Melina Marchetta!
I adore Melina Marchetta and I love Finnikin of the Rock.
This is my third reading, but the first time I've listened to the audio version. I don't think this is the best way to discover Finnikin of the Rock, however.

The fourth and final book in a steampunk YA adventure series from Orbit's New York Times best-selling author of the Parasol Protectorate series.
When a dastardly Pickleman plot comes to fruition, only Sophronia can save her friends, her school and all of London...but at what cost?
Our proper young heroine puts her training and skills to the test in this highly anticipated conclusion of the rousing, intriguing and always polished New York Times best-selling Finishing School series!
    Members Reviews:
    Could not stop
So beautifully written, I absolutely loved. Ties into the Parasol Protectorate series wonderfully. A simply marvelous book.
The final Finishing School instalment - can they defeat the Picklemen?
Final instalment in the Finishing School series. While it did feel a little rushed at the end (almost like there should've been a book 5 but someone said no, so she had to cut off and finish off in the last quarter of book 4 instead), overall the book is excellent. With a Pickleman plot to foil and a country to save, Sophronia and her friends have a fight on their hands, and with very few weapons (and can I say, the idea of a wicker chicken weapon made me laugh out loud!) they go into battle. But can they defeat them, save the country, and graduate Finishing School? Will there even be a School left to graduate? And what will become of them all? Well, you'll just have to listen to find out!
    Pure genius!
Along with all Gail Carriger's books this is funny, stylish, unusual and utterly absorbing. Her characters live and find a place in our hearts while her plots surprise and delight. Excellent female role models and faultless moral compass. Can't get enough.
let's Hope that finishing is just a start.
loved all the devious twists and who can resist a wicker chickenand a crumpet
    Not as good as expected.
I have loved this series despite it being YA series, however this was a real let down. I didn't actually realise this was the last in the series right until the end and have to say it was a massive let down. It could have been so much better. That said, Moira Quirk did a fantastic job of narrating as always and really brought all the characters to life.

    Members Reviews:
    Still coming back for more
I continue down the same path and while years and years pass between books and sometimes during the book we still don't seem to be getting nearer to how Dragon will turn out. Now we are worrying about our poor chameleon and what will happen to him. We have seen Dragon actually slay other drgons but what will he do when he finds out what has happened now? What will happen to this latest insertion of evil into his body....will his scales remain black? Are all black dragons evil? Will he ever be able to return to Dragon Home or will there even be a Dragon home to return to? I have no idea at this time. Our author has a very complicated mind. You gottal love that.
Seems to be all over the place
The writing is substantially improved from the first books. There is more character development for everyone except Nath, who for some reason is just impossible to figure out. Clearly, the author is trying to portray this in terms of maturity: that Nath is now less arrogant and more centered. The story tries to make us feel the frustration and internal conflict Nath is feeling at not being able to kill, but there's too many other things going on. Tons of antagonists come and go without any real development of their own, and it's just not easy to figure out what the point is here.
Again, the writing flow is improved - tremendously. But the plot and storytelling seems to be going adrift.
Are you dragon up the rear?
Action packed adventure with all sorts of characters (both good and evil). Lol the first three books you won't want to put it down.
    fun read
    Fun reads, these r.
    Another amazing read by Halloran!
You have to buy this book now! It is crazy good. Nath finds himself in trouble again as he continues to be careless and fails to heed the advice of others. All the characters are back together and you won't believe what they are up against this time. Another fantastic tale for all ages and the ending will leave you needing to find out what happens in book 5...
