Investing online? This book might be your best investment all year.

"TradeStream" is a very helpful resource for self-directed investors interested in learning about the latest tools and trends in the field of investment research. Miller lays out different categories of the latest services and suggests how each might be employed to generate investment ideas and/or evaluate the potential of various trades. He helpfully describes the theoretical backgrounds and, in many cases, provides some information assessing the effectiveness of the tools as well.

I didn't give the book five stars because for me, Miller's book would be more helpful if he provided a stronger and more explicit overall framework for how to use the tools, particularly with some sensitivity toward different investor objectives, risk profiles and levels of attentiveness (a framework exists in pieces throughout the book but could be better pulled together in an introductory or concluding chapter). In addition, his evaluation of the effectiveness of the different resources could be more consistently rigorous (e.g., adjusting for beta, comparing to standard indices) rather than merely citing different studies which all use their own standards. Lastly, the book's credibility would benefit from more objectivity (for example he repeatedly promotes Seeking Alpha, where he once worked and may still have an ownership interest) -- that may well be a matter of editing rather than actual judgement, but nonetheless it undermines the reading experience.

That said, this is a great place for new or confused online investors who want to know where to look for different kinds of help.

Beyond the border of disappointment

I'm a strong believer in investing globally and I wanted very much to like this book. Borders are certainly less important to investors these days and I looked forward to Frishberg's thoughts on how to benefit. There weren't many, and most were nothing more than snide comments about the current administration's regulatory efforts. Perhaps the book's subtitle should have tipped me off that I would be disappointed: "How 6 Billion Investors Can Find Profits in the Global Economy." With the world's population currently at about 6.6 billion, that would mean nearly everyone, everywhere, would somehow be rolling in dough - a nice concept, but hardly realistic.

There are some nice moments. Frishberg deftly explains bonds by comparing them to rental properties, for example. He talks, relatively briefly, about how the world's need for water may provide some outstanding investment opportunities.

It contains some value

European markets underperformed US markets, that's a fact. However, many of the ideas illustrated in the book were valuable: German outperformance, the potential fo luxury stocks, the value of tourism. I also found of great value the studies about what mechanical rules (combination of momentum indicators and foundamental metrics) do work in Europe. That is going to last.

Not a good book

I listened to the whole of part 1 and gave up half way through part 2.

1. If you are doing an audio version of your book consider a professional voice. The author is not always the best voice. Requires you to lose your ego though if you are to be able to recognise this.

2. This book is just a compendium of ideas I have heard elsewhere. Too much "Rich Dad" type stuff and a lot of analogies from a book called "Make More Money" from Infinite Ideas, which is actually just a commentary on 4 of the classic wealth creation books.

So, all in all, not a book I could finish.

Good book, liked the pace

I have heard Ben Benson live and think that his material is great. He covers the topic well and I really like his personal stories that add to the overall material and bring it to life. A bit like a Covey for entrepreneurs. all in all a good book and would recommend to anyone...My family should read this...!

Life application far beyond money!

Make Your Money Count is filled with real-life stories and application far beyond money. This book challenged me to establish my life purpose, develop a plan to fulfill that purpose, and align my actions so that after some time I can look back and know that I've done all that I can reach my goals. This book filled my living room with laughter (and a few tears) as Jim shares his own life story, accomplishments and mistakes. This book hit home, called me to action. But it didn't leave me wondering what to do. I knew exactly what to after reading this book! Chapter by chapter I gained clarity about what I wanted out of life and how to align my actions (and finances) with that. I would highly recommend this book to anyone feeling stuck, anyone evaluating their financial plan, or anyone just starting to manage their finances for the first time.

Investing Wisdom from Jason Hartman

Would you consider the audio edition of Creating Wealth Encyclopedia, Volume 5, Shows 86-90 to be better than the print version?

The audio version of Creating Wealth allows me to hear Jason's investing wisdom wherever I go. I prefer this format, since it allows me to take my investing education with me everywhere.

Whats an idea from the book that you will remember?

You should only buy investments that make sense from day one. Gamblers get burned.

The Strategies for building long-term wealth are truly remarkable. There isn't anybody else in the marketplace who is offering a complete solution for income property investing.
