A great story about life's tragedies

The author did a fabulous job showing what a tragic situation can do to a person, literally change one's life, even though we survive. The story hit close to home for me, not in the same situation, but a situation nonetheless changed my life and challenged my family. Thankfully, we remained intact. If anyone wants to say the situation are unreal, don't believe it because they are.

When Alex survives a car accident that her friend doesn't, she spins out of control. Her mother, Meg becomes so involved with helping her, that she doesn't notice what's going on around her. Her husband unexpectedly asks for a divorce, she has another child to care for, and her own job and life to get through every day. So of course, why would she look for any way to help her. That help comes in the form of a car transport service, and when her husband disagrees with her method, she goes behind his back and does it anyway.

Who will know? He's out of town after all. But when it goes wrong, she must tell him and face his wrath.

The story is an emotional roller coaster that will really make you think about looking deeper into a problem than what's on the surface.

great story, a little close to home right now!!!!

with 4 daughters who are both in her teenage years it made me a little upset but it was a very very good story but have a good ending and I loved the bits of singing in it

YA Literature

This is YA literature at its best. Involving story; teenage angst; clueless parents. Which is also the reason I didn't like it. I'm no longer a teenager. Haven't been one in a very long time. (My grandchildren are older than Alex.) I'd rather read about adult themes, such as following Alex's parents through their divorce, through his addiction and rehabilitation, if he goes for any. How did the family get to the "other side"? Were they intact? What did they learn? This was a good story, just not my choice.

Not the best audible story

Unbelievable that a 16 year old would be so into the fake "Phish" band... could have done without that story line.

I generally like stories of women who struggle through to the end. I thought that's where this story was headed, but I'm left feeling that it ended before the end! I was loving the idea of the story and the cultural aspect, but found that I was lost over and over in the jumps back and forth in time and character. Perhaps it's a matter of what I want from spending time listening and/or reading a book. I want to relax, learn and finish with a few insights....feeling satisfied like after a good meal. When it's over I want to feel that the ends are tied up and I can happily move on. After finishing this book, I just feel frustrated. I will say that the writing was beautiful.

Gay for Pay is the best audiobook that I've listened to so far. I was looking for a quick wank, but was surprised to find a charming story with lovable characters.

I really liked this audiobook.I listen to this all in one sitting and wish it were longer because I really loved getting to know these characters. This is a story about love, loss, regret, loneliness, letting go and second chances at new love. Very good story and narration.

I enjoyed the story for the most part. My main complaint is the story jumps from 2010 to 2015 with very little information given about the time in between. For example, it mentions a trial, but I dont remember it mentioning whether or not Chris went to jail. I wish Id gotten a little more information and background.

This book was realistic, wholesome, and for the most part excellently written. It could be read by a kid with out causing any parent to worry about content. My only complaint would be that it does move a bit slowly in places. I expected a different ending but am not sure if this is good or bad. You figure it out since it is worth hearing.

Interesting subject, too much overwritten drama

A dear friend who was a fire tower lookout for the U.S. Forest Service passed away recently. He was instrumental in protecting the Lincoln Montana Valley, as he was first to spot and report fires. There was nothing more important to Dan than the safety of the firefighters and his community. I started this book hoping it would help me to remember Dan and his world, but it read like chick-lit (not my favorite). There is some fire information and firefighting, but it was overwhelmed by far too much overwritten drama in my opinion.

Horse people should enjoy this.

The horse /human relationships are accurate. Interesting comparison of 2 different worlds and the power of the equine bond. Very well written, but I'm extremely disappointed in the ending.

disappointing

This novel is about a "fresh air" 12 year old city girl, Velvet, who spends two weeks in the country with Ginger and her husband. She falls in love with the horses at the nearby stables. It is a first person narrative, with different narrators each chapter. The start of the novel was very good, but each hour I listened made me less interested. Halfway through (8 hours into this), I just stopped caring and quit. For one thing, very little happened. A slow moving story can be good, but only if the characters are great. I liked the girl, Velvet (good character and great narrator), but none of the adults really came alive to me. Ginger, the main adult, just became less and less believable and less interesting. If it were not such a long book, I might have stayed with it. I also wanted more with the horses.

Awesome

I love this book! The characters are so real that when the book ended I kept thinking about them and wondering what they were doing in their lives. I think that's the best compliment one can give an author when they create a world that so real we feel like we're missing out because we don't know what's happening in it.

Fantastic audio performances

This novel features different voices, and the audio format was ideal for presenting this work. The voices were so distinct and really gave me a flavor of the characters.

Crazy story

This is an entertaining and interesting story. There are laughs, tears, anger and surprises. The story was very well read with the Asian inflections and expressions beautifully rendered. The ending is satisfying, but also left up in the air.

Loved this book

I really enjoyed this audiobook from the story to the excellent narration. The twist at the end keep me interested right up to the end.

This book blends facts, fiction, cultural nuances and human interactions and foibles beautifully to take the listener on a wonderful journey.

If an adventure is a trip without a destination...

If an adventure is a trip without a destination, Id have to say this is more about her journey than her adventures. Because this was all about the trip rather than her destination.

My heart hurt for Lydia. As everything went wrong, again (admittedly by her own faults), she stopped caring, and that was the strange thing. But, I get it. Girl, I have been there. I still go there sometimes. Im glad you caught on eventually, and despite not caring, you didnt give up.

Okay, so, its safe to say these characters are real to me. And they are. In a way, they always have been, due to my love of P&P, but, there brought to life in such a new way. And, thanks to the amazing writers, and the talented Mary Kate Wiles, Lydia was brought to life in a way that made her.... sympathetic. I dont want to say redeeming, but... they made her likable in a way shes never been before.

Okay... the scene where Lydia confronts George... I knew itd be in there, and I knew they had thought about having it in the webseries, but decided not to, but I didnt know. I didnt know what itd be, or how much I would love it. I am so proud of Lydia.

AND MARY! I was initially disappointed that things with Eddie didnt work out, but man... he was a douche. Im honestly bit horrified. But Im glad things worked out so much better for her. And it was nice to have Denny mentioned, even if I was temporarily confused, thinking of P&Ps version of Denny, and wondering why they were hanging with Georges friend. But, then I remembered, in the videos, hes Marys friend.

Also, I always liked what they did with Mary in the webseries. I was always disappointed she wasnt in more of Lizzies videos, and enjoyed her in Lydias videos.

THE ONLY THING I AM DISAPPOINTED WITH, IS THAT WE NEVER GET TO SEE ANY LYDIA AND GIGI INTERACTIONS.

Absolutely loved this story! Funny, sad, heartwarming, makes you think and reflect. So many areas to relate to.

her first novel...

This is her first novel and it is not nearly as good as the following books. I read this one last and did not enjoy it much. I absolutely love all her other books! Especially 1. What Alice forgot and 2. Big little lies. In comparison with those later books, Three Wishes cant measure up.

Caroline Lee brings all the characters to life with her voice acting. She is brilliant.

Another gem from Liane Moriarty

This is the 4th book I've listened to from this author and again I was not disappointed.

The characters established themselves very early on and are believable, likeable and funny and I found myself invested in finding out what happened to them.

The only parts I found slightly confusing were those told from an onlookers perspective. Perhaps it was because it was an audio book with no visual clue in the text to indicate the departure from the protagonists view but once I'd cottoned on to the format it added additional insight.

As always, Caroline Lee read wonderfully and I could listen to her narration all day. Well, perhaps apart from her attempt at an American accent, but she's wonderful so she's forgiven!

Highly recommended for an escapist read/listen.

Returned!!

I had to listen to the prologue about 3 times before I could fully understand what was going on! It may have been easier to follow in the physical book.

Found the narrators voice too grating and annoying, there was no difference between any of the characters
