You've got to love lions!

I remember when Tippi Hedren, a total unknown, was selected to be the leading lady in Alfred Hitchcock's THE BIRDS. It caused quite a stir. I also knew that she had some sort of a big cat sanctuary here in California. As a person who works with and advocates for wildlife, I have to admit that I was more interested in learning about the big cats, than I was in anything else, but the whole book was very interesting.

Ms. Hedren narrates the book. She is now 86. I worried a bit about that, but didn't need to. Her narration is fine, and I'm sure adds to the story. I admire anyone who is her age not only writing a book but narrating it as well.

Tippi is totally enjoyable. Ms. Hedren is a real survivor. She has lived quite a life, survived many setbacks, and always bounced back for more. She comes across as very independent. Her work with big cats and other wildlife has been admirable and we in the wildlife community support it.

Good for her for writing this book and sharing her very interesting story.

Such a classy lady! She has had a very interesting life! Loved it!

I could not stop listening to it and Tippi is such a class act. Just awesome!

Extraordinary time very well spent!

From the first word, Ms. Hedren had me entranced.

I'd heard the end of a recent NPR Interview that inspired me to purchase this book. Now I am anxiously looking forward to delivery of Roar.

Excellent intro to a great film director's legacy

From 1954 through 1960, Alfred Hitchcock directed and helped write and produce one of the most astonishing strings of great movies in the history of cinema: "Rear Window", "To Catch a Thief", "The Trouble with Harry", "Vertigo", "North by Northwest", and "Psycho" among others. I don't mean to suggest this was the only phase of his career when he made great movies. "Notorious" (1946) and "Strangers on a Train" (1951), among other movies, were also terrific.

If you're curious about the life of the man responsible for this impressive and varied body of work, Peter Ackroyd's "Brief Life" offers a succinct, lively, and very informative introduction. Much of the text is taken up by brief descriptions of the genesis of the stories leading up to the films (including the less interesting ones), Hitch's successes and failures in recruiting writers, actors, costume designers, and music directors for each project, critical and popular reaction to each film, and the director's peculiar and varied relationships with his writers and stars. Hitch famously likened his actors to "cattle," but despite this fact he seems to have had reasonably warm relationships with a few of them.

Had such potential, but never gets there

What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?

I was expecting hilarity. What I got was snippets of stories that typically start with some random persons experience. "Sally was surprised when Bill Murray walked into her party, stayed and helped with the dishes afterward". It's like 500 of those little gems. No background from Bill, No underlying or follow up either. A 10 sec anecdote and bam, onto the next one. Once in a while you get a longer story, maybe 3-5 minutes of narration. Also, the first hour is an extremely dry and uneventful 'buildup' for very little if any payoff.

More interesting stories. Not sure how one makes Bill Murray dull, but this author has perfected it.

It is a must have book for a traveler. It has everything you need to know about Istanbul's night life. It has everything from bars to comedy clubs. I have been planning to visit Istanbul with my friends and I came across this book at the right time. I will definitely visit a few of the places mentioned.

Would you listen to A Little Thing Called Life again? Why?

I absolutely would listen to this book again for three reasons. First, because Linda is an actress and her voice, inflection, and tone is amazing. I hope she decides to read again for an audiobook production of a famous novel.... I can totally imagine her reading a famous novel... or at the minimum...
