Interesting and cute
This book is unusual and may be a bit scary for some children, but it is well-written and about a relationship between a rat and a snake.
By the time the reader reads the following passage, which is at the beginning of this book, the trap has been set, the reader is hooked, and ready to read on.
"Eve looked down at him from the top of the bottle. 'You're just jealous because you're too big to go out, and you never thought of it when you were smaller.' This was true. No rat had considered going out of the glass tank until Eve decided to try. They all thought her rather strange. 'Be sure to bring back a good story' called Athena, her sister. 'Yes, but mind the cat,' said Moses, her father."
Eve is a baby rat, who escapes from her cage and while exploring her surroundings meets Malachi, a boa constrictor. Malachi is in a glass tank all the while he and Eve have lovely chats. Eve is very curious about many things, especially the outside world and the wilds as Malachi often talks. These two unlikely opposites form an unusual bond. There comes a day when Eve learns Malachi is fed rats and her sole purpose being raised and housed is to keep Malachi alive. Find out what Eve does by reading the book.
The story is very interesting, adventurous, and exciting. The author draws the reader in and slowly feeds them the next bit of details moving them forward in the story. The reader moves quickly through the story, as it is easy to read, and following the back and forth conversations builds anticipation and causes the reader to want to know more.
The artwork illustrations are done in black ink, which helps set perfect tone and approach to the storyline.

Perfect for budding readers!
A beautifully illustrated chapter-book, "Feeding Malachi" follows Eve, a baby mouse, and Malachi, a young snake, as the friends try to find a way to co-exist. Short enough not to intimidate readers, but give them a rewarding challenge. "Feeding Malachi" is children's horror done right, and any little who enjoys spooky tales or ghost stories will not be disappointed! I plan on sharing this with all my younger cousins. One loves dragons and animals, and their fantastic adventures, and another always asks for ghost stories at bedtime. This book spans the range of interests, and is simply a great read.
A Sweet Story for all ages
I loved this little story. I was attracted by the wonderful cover illustration so I bought it. What I found inside is a lovely story that has a way of connecting you back to your childhood and how you viewed the world.
