Nice REad

The mystery in this book, and the solution to that mystery, was good and kept me guessing to the end. But Ms Patrick's constant use of certain phrases, (he/she) "snatched a kiss", "wrapped his arms around her", etc, in my opinion took the book from a well written, albeit romance laden mystery, to a schoolgirl dreamy love story. I could have done with a lot less romance and more development of the mystery. The narrator did a good job voicing the characters, and I enjoyed listening to her.

Good book

STORY REVIEW......

It's a good story. Worth reading. But to be honest it could have been better. It needed more danger or at least sense of danger. And as obsessed as the killer was supposed to appear to be with her it mostly didn't really come across that way. Plus there didn't really feel like there was a connection established as to why she was so special to him. That being said I did think it was good it just had potential to be better.

A great novel without any boring parts.

What made the experience of listening to The Final Minute the most enjoyable?

It is entertainment from the first to the last minute.

What other book might you compare The Final Minute to and why?

Only Simon Kernick is able to write a such book, why The Final minute can only be compared to some of his earlier books. However, in my opinion, The Final Minute is his best novel so far because Simon Kernick has written less unrealistic events in this book.

Have you listened to any of Paul Thornleys other performances before? How does this one compare?

Wery well, indeed. Paul Thornley is my number one.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

No, not really. But dividing it to 12 - 18 parts while taking a daily walk makes the walking alot easier, even in lousy weather.

Any additional comments?

Of course, Simon Kernick books are nothing for "deep thinkers", only great entertainment with some unrealistic parts just as in a 007 James Bond film.

Good page-turner

An engaging, fast-paced thriller. The characters have some dimensions which save them from being mere espionage stereotypes. The framework of the story, an amnesiac racing against time to regain his memory, holds up well.

one of kernick's best.

Simon Kernick is one of my favourite authors and this is one oi his best books I think. non stop action conbined with great characters made this a book I couldn't stop listening. Paul Thornley is a terrific narator

Pretty good listen

Although not his best book this is not bad and passed a few evenings. I thought the ending could have gone in various ways and was a little disappointed in the way it did. It was the least entertaining, but very gritty and leaves the way open for another book featuring the main character. The narrator is my least favourite on audible, so I found myself drifting off by the end of each evening. Sadly he reads a lot of Simon Kernicks books, so it's a case of tolerate his voice or don't buy!

The story is intriguing and captures your attention throughout. enjoyed listening and liked the premise. would recommend it.

Mystery and Mayhem in the Diamond District and Beyond

A $6 million jewel heist in a New Jersey suburb leads to death, intrigue, a $25 million dollar reward offer, and a double cross. Mitch is a freelance insurance investigator for jewelry related losses. His wife, Maddie, is a beautiful, blind, talented musician who inherited a significant amount of money. Mitch is uncomfortable being the lesser financial partner in their relationship. When he sees a chance to narrow that financial gap, he jumps at it. While, in my opinion, this is not the best of Gerald Browne's books, it is not a terrible book. It moves along at a reasonable pace and the characters -- at least Mitch and Maddie -- are people you can enjoy meeting.

Browne may not know his guns but he knows the diamond trade and the book is about an aspect of the diamond trade, not about guns. While I agree with the reviewer who mentioned how irritating it is for an author to describe a character as putting a revolver on safety or releasing the safety on a revolver, over the years I have developed my own strategy for dealing with that statement without stressing. I automatically think "Oh, he must have a Webley-Fosbery" and I move on. I suspect there is scarcely a novel extant that does not include at least one factual error, whether tiny or tremendous. It is called fiction for a reason.

Good to the last page

A very good story with a lot of twists. The female lead character is strong and conquers her issues. I hope these characters reappear in more books

Learn to speak like a petty jewel thief in 3 easy lessons...

Browne can be both entertaining and irritating, at the same time - this book does not disappoint... it manages to accomplish both, very well. No, I won't give it away... as a multitude of math and physics professors gleefully informed me over the years, "the final solution is left as an exercise for the student." So - enjoy.

Mary Roberts Rinehart was one of the Grand Dames of the golden age of cozy mysteries. She is the only American member of that club. I would have rated this as a 3, judged against modern standards. I would rate it as a 5 given its influence in the field. So I marked it 4.

Early Florida

Mike Rodenska's wife has died and his old friend Troy Jamison has invited him to come down to Florida to visit him and his new wife. It doesn't take long for our hero to realize that he's there to once again rescue his old friend from himself. It seems that Troy's success as a small builder has gone to his head; he's now in over his own head; and he's about to lose not only all he's made but the money provided by his new wife. Fortunately his old friend Mike is there again.

I'll stop the synopsis right there so as to not spoil the ending for anyone. This is one of my favorite of MacDonald's pre McGee novels; once again MacDonald finds the core of various psyche's in a way that makes them come alive. One jarring note is the cavalier manner that the main character treats his sons in the aftermath of their mother's death. Perhaps it was de riguer in days of yore for father's to make only a very minor role in parenting but Rodenska's reaction feels very cold.

This is nonetheless a great listen; hell the worst of MacDonald's works are very good; this one is better.

ok book but slow moving.

I was entertained by the old Florida style stories. I would recommend it in case you're ever living in Florida
