Is there anything you would change about this book?

This is an unedited copy. I'm guessing it was uploaded by mistake, and am hoping there is an edited copy somewhere. It's hard to listen to when lines are repeated three and four times to get them right, but then never edited.

Poor Narration

I'm sorry, I have listened to so many audio books and this ones narrator was so difficult to stay tuned into the story. He made several mistakes and kept repeating lines over and over, in a the beginning it wasn't a problem but I had to stop listening eventually because I couldn't stay focused. I was disappointed so far the story was interesting ....

Interesting, confusing

The story is about a man, his fall into Mental illness and recovery. Just a story like others, but there is a uniqueness that made me want to keep listening.. i finished the audio in one day. .. I would recommend if interested in the daily life, and functioning of a person w this disease.

However, the reader kept repeating sentences and words throughout the entire book.. Don't know if intentional or not, but at times very distracting.

Almost stopped listening at one point, but instead just skipped to next chapter.... The repetition, seemed to improve in last few chapters.

Unfortunately the editing of this book was deplorable. It was a struggle to get through Chapter 3 with all the restarts, throat clearing, belching, and content repeats of words and sentences.

I don't understand why the author felt it necessary to praise himself, over and over, for his accomplishments when they are self evident.

So incredibly touching. Just a normal girl, going through something awful. I read this as a child, but it was so much more powerful now that I'm grown up. If you haven't read it recently, give it a go.

How Refreshing

What made the experience of listening to Keeping Hope Alive the most enjoyable?

It is refreshing to hear of a Moslem serving humanity with a kind and generous heart. Dr. Hawa was just such a person. Her strong sense of loyalty to her beloved country and her stalwart approach to challenging situations results in her being a truly outstanding human. I listened to every minute with interest and awe.

Unintentional Stereotypical Porn Star

Most of the content in this book is of a woman's story about how she was abused as a kid, tried to get a straight edge career, and left that for porn where she proceeded to blow money up her nose, and eventually decide she must be wise because of her experiences. What I wanted from this book was an insider's memoirs and a behind the scenes look at porn where the narrator wasn't a train wreck.

This book is very good if you'd like a well flushed character study of what it's like to be a genuine bimbo. In that regard, it's pretty educational in order to understand how that fantasy can manage to function in the real world. The voice actress was well picked, and I really felt like a blonde was reading to me.

I'm picking on this story not out of hate for bimbos, but disappointment with Audible's lack of books on this subject matter/from this perspective. It's sad that this is pretty much their only book written by someone who has done porn.

A moving story of love and war

What made the experience of listening to Goodbye Sarajevo the most enjoyable?

I have always been fascinated by Sarajevo, for the simple reason that I was growing up during the time of this war and was too little to really understand what happened and why. This book explains the conflict, the deprivations, and the love between two sisters in straight-forward prose, not sugar-coating anything, but also detailing the glimmers of hope during hard lives as a near vaptive in a besieged city and a refuge in another country.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Atka and Hana... beyond them, there were so many good people who assisted the girls, it is hard to pick just one.

What three words best describe Bernadette Dunnes performance?

Just okay... Another note, I suppose, was that since two first-person narratives were contained in this book, I really think two narrators should have read it. I never really got confused, but there was little intonation or accent (this narrator can and has done better).

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The ending... no spoilers, I promise!

Any additional comments?

This book is a worthwhile biography. Perhaps it is better to read in print, perhaps not... but I enjoyed it enough to hang on to it in my audio library, because of its personal and moving nature.

Good story - close in time and place

OK, the two authors of this book had an important story to tell. These two sisters and their family lived through the Siege of Sarajevo, beginning in 1992. The Muslim family living in Sarajevo was very large - ten kids! Two of the kids, one twelve and the other fifteen were evacuated to Croatia. Another daughter was in Vienna when the siege began so she too later lived with her sisters in Croatia. The rest, along with their mother and father and two grandmothers lived through the Siege from March 1992 through November 1995. The mother chose to return to Sarajevo. 10.000 were killed. 60.000 were wounded. Remember this was in Europe; this was in recent times. And what did the UN do? Not much of anything.... What did the European Union do? Very little. It was very hard to listen to this because it felt so close in both time and place. It felt like next door! And I have been in Zagreb where the three girls in Croatia stayed. It spooked me. What happened to this family will shake you, and it is a story that needs to be told. If you want to know exactly what it might have been like to be there in Sarajevo during this war, read this book. You also hear what it was like for the three girls alone in Zagreb, not knowing what was happening to their family.

Listening to Alpha Trivette perform Not Dead Yet feels like listening to a vivacious and engaging friend tell life stories over dinner. Trivettes background in acting and comedy lends itself to an ideal treatment of decades worth of rich, moving, and often hilarious autobiographical material. Even Trivettes somewhat Americanized pronunciation of French phrases (Gold spent several years in postwar Paris) is charming.

Golds words make vivid both his Beatnik past with Ginsberg, Kerouac, and Bellow, and his ever-bohemian present, as he approaches "the art of growing old" with humor and self-deprecation. Listeners will relate to the authors struggles with grief, loneliness, and physical decline, but also take solace in his wise reflections about life and love.

Great 'read'

Would you listen to Love Me When I'm Gone again? Why?

The author narrates it which I feel just adds to the richness of a title... you just get a better experience when the author reads it to you.

The book starts off how you'd expect, Rob gives you a brief rundown of his life leading up to his time in ODA 002. He then gives good accounts of some training experiences as well as some deployments. To say anymore would be to ruin the book, definiteily pick up a copy in your favorite medium!

Well worth it!!!

This is by far one of the best books I have read/listened too. I started listening to this book and I did not want to stop. Great storyline I like how he kept it going from chapter to chapter. It takes you through a roller coaster of emotions. The narration was great very enthusiastic. I would recommend this book to all my friends and family!!!

Not Your Average "16 and Pregnant"

Kicked out by her mother, and shunned by her small town community in New Hampshire it's a rocky start. Halls life doesn't end up on People magazine there's no plastic surgery/makeover ending.

Meredith moves to the Middle East, first on a whim, but its a decision that changes her life. She sells every one of her possessions, and yet arrives on the other side of her adventure with something much more precious, as well as a relationship she never dreamed shed have.

Poignant and moving biography

What did you like best about this story?

I enjoyed the everyday aspects of this book. Meredith Hall has a way of making words sing, making even ordinary things like the habits of childhood classmates sound poetic. Her use of the present tense continually through this novel both gives it immediacy and provides some confusion for the reader, as it seems to jump around with no particular purpose (particularly in the second half of the book).

Have you listened to any of Kathe Mazurs other performances before? How does this one compare?

I have not, but I think I will. She did a very good job here, and I would like to hear more!

Any additional comments?

This is a good book, detailing the pain of being forced to put a baby up for adoption, with really no say in the matter; the cruelty of ostratization, the complicated relationships between parents and children.

I would love to see Meredith Hall put her hand to novel-writing or poetry; I think she would do an amazing job as well.

Perhaps the continuous present-tense narration was used as a device to denote aimlessness and being, as the title suggests, without a map; however, it is a bit frustrating as a reader because the shifts in time don't appear to make any particular sense, particularly at the end of the book. This aside, it is a solid biography, and I would love to read anything else Ms. Hall wishes to write.
