    Surprisingly Interesting!
Really enjoyed listening. I wouldn't mind buying the book, too. Each day uses a relevant topic and I liked the prayers at the end of each. As a newer Christian it really helped me understand how to seek intimacy with God. I listened in car on way home from work. I would feel so inspired to pursue more time with God or read scripture reference and even used the prayers to further my own prayers to God. Would definitely recommend to any one new in Christ or anyone seeking intimacy with God in their personal faith journey.
    Life Changing
Life's Issues dampened my spiritual life I am now asking God to rekindle my fire.
Wonderful guide to getting closer to our Father
John and Lisa do an excellent job at providing inspired direction on building a closer relationship to God. They provide an honest, no-holds barred teaching of what it means to have a loving, reverential fear of our heavenly Father. Many people hear the words "fear" and "judgement" and interpret the words based on their own personal filters which may have been created from negative experiences in their own lives. But John and Lisa present these words in the context of unconditional love which is what God gives us. We are afraid of hurting the ones we love and respect, which is what reverential fear is about. That is the kind of relationship God wants to have with each of us.
They also do a great job of explaining that it takes time to build a healthy relationship with God just as it does with every relationship in our lives. The relationship will grow as strong as the amount of time you invest in cultivating it. The more time we give God, the stronger the love grows and the more we get to know Him.
Thank you John and Lisa for following your hearts and being faithful to our God by sharing your experiences and wisdom with us through this magnificent book.

  • The Purpose of Man Audiobook by A. W. Tozer, James L. Snyder

    Title: The Purpose of Man
    Subtitle: Designed to Worship
    Author: A. W. Tozer, James L. Snyder
    Narrator: Jon Gauger
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 56 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-31-16
    Publisher: Oasis Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 17 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
"Worship is man's full reason for existence. Worship is why we are born and why we are born again." (A. W. Tozer)
    A. W. Tozer earned a legendary reputation as a prophetic voice, and he continues to be a best-selling author half a century after his death. A preacher at heart, he found his greatest joy in practicing the presence of God. Worship was his focus and his passion. His sermons were such strong declarations of what he discovered during private prayer and worship of the triune God that he had both the ability and the Spirit's anointing to move his listeners to wrestle with what God was saying to the church. His writings carry the same message, with the same result, to a new generation of worshippers.
The Purpose of Man is the perfect introduction to Tozer. Drawn from messages he called his best teaching, this audiobook will also delight those already familiar with, moved by, and changed by his other classics. What Tozer offers on the subject of worship here in The Purpose of Man will challenge you to reconsider your life's priorities while at the same time holding out a cup of living water for your soul.
    Members Reviews:
I'm sorry it took me so long to discover Tozer!
All I can say is, "Wow!" For quite a while now, I have felt that the church of God has lost its original purpose and that we are searching in all the wrong places for God's approval. We are so caught up in programs and entertainment that we are not functioning as God wants us to function. I was never able to put into words what I felt, but this book changed all of that. In my case, I'm a musician. I never really felt I had a problem with my music philosophy until I read this book. Having reading this book, my attitude has changed forever. In this book, Tozer gives clear, Bible-based requirements for worship. These are not ideas that he has formulated himself; they are ideas that come directly from the Word of God. I came out of the book realizing that music is not essential to worship; nor are many other things that churches often consider "essential" in a proper worship service. The idea of worship being a continuous state of mind is an ever-present thought throughout the book. Tozer's thought-the fact that so much of what our churches do "in the name of God" is worthless without worship-hit me very hard. This book is both inspiring in its push for a more simple and straightforward worship, and daunting as I think of the uphill battle that it is going to be trying to get churches steeped in tradition to change their ways. Regardless, this book is a must-have for any serious person seeking to get back to the basics of true Biblical worship.
    Talk About an Attitude Adjustment!
First, who am I to judge anything written by this amazing man of God? They say fools rush in where angels fear to tread. So, here I go. The passion of a true worshipper of God comes through in this excellent read on every page. Perhaps reflective of his own spiritual journey and awareness of "wasted time" in seeing, understanding, and make his own the sacrament of worship, Tozer makes a exceptional strong case for rediscovering our privilege, opportunity, and injunction to worship God. I found myself wanting to highlight so many quotes and passages that, if I had followed my urges, the whole book would have been canary yellow.

  • Heretics Audiobook by G.K. Chesterton

    Title: Heretics
    Author: G.K. Chesterton
    Narrator: Philippe Duquenoy
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 24 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 05-02-16
    Publisher: A.R.N. Publications
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 40 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Chesterton's compilation of essays in Heretics discusses the difference in Orthodoxy and Heretics, rational vs. irrational, and denial vs. affirmation. He questions the reason for the existence of man and the universe and calls out many prominent figures in the artistic and literary fields for their unorthodox ideas; thus labeling them heretics. He will have you thinking of favorite authors like Rudyard Kipling, Oscar Wilde, and H.G. Wells in a new light, challenging their ideals and morals.
He pleads for people to believe in something, but not to believe in just anything. He rails against the greatest mental destruction, having everything constantly denied to you and nothing affirmed. Chesterton believes that anyone who did not believe in the Christian God, was dangerous and were very wrong.
Nearly every minute of this book has a quotable passage that will really get you thinking about the meaning of life and the different ideas that are being put into the world. Heretics reveals to the listener that their deepest held values, beliefs, and moral compasses may be deeply flawed from within. Chesterton also hones in on the concept that ideas are the most dangerous thing we have in life and there are very real consequences to those ideas.
    Members Reviews:
    Typical Chesterton
This is a collection of Chesterton essays railing against his perceived enemies of his day. It's interesting because he writes so well. But some of the names and some of the issues will be lost on a read of today.

The key to having a positive, happy, faith-filled day is to start each morning setting your mind in the right direction. It's easy to lie in bed thinking, "I don't feel like going to work. I don't want to deal with these children. I didn't exercise yesterday." We don't realize it, but that's setting the tone for a lousy day. If you don't intentionally set the tone for the day, negative thoughts will set it for you. Wake Up to Hope will help you begin each morning grateful, thinking about God's goodness, expecting his favor, and laying the foundation for a blessed, productive day.

    Powerful Read
Makes me want to recite with her as she reads these powerful words. An amazingly creative way of guidance for us who need it. My life is changing and with this book I believe in the right track. My faith grows and I am thankful.
Hope in the One, He is surely our all in all
how hopeful this message is, it lifts you up to higher ground and gives you Hope in the One who is our Everything.
    Very powerful
Great messages, amazing prayers! Life changing book! Insistem everyday over and over! I strongly recommend
    Inspirational & Hopeful
I've had the book on Audible for less than a month. I've listened to the entire thing at least 6 times. Luckily at my job, I'm able to listen to headphones. Not that there is anything majorly devastating going on in my life right now. It's just that when you listen to the first couple of devotionals, it's hard to not want to hear more. So regardless of a bad day or a good day, I will listen sometimes for the entire 8 hour work day.
Each time I start over, I find something new I may have missed a previous time. When Victoria is citing various scriptures, I find myself mouthing the words along with her. It instills hope, happiness and determination in my mind daily. Her words, ideas and thoughts are fervently backed up with Biblical truth. What an enjoyable way to learn scripture while pertaining to every day life at the same time.
Definitely a must have for anyone seeking hope, inspirational and guidance from our Holy Bible. If someone with an awful attention span such as myself can get it through it roughly 6 times in less than a month, then it's an easy listen for an avid reader. I compare this book to my favorite daily devotional, "Jesus Calling" by Sarah Young. They are now both my favorite devotionals that I never tire of listening to or reading.
    You will not be disappointed!!

    Publisher's Summary:
The Christian life is built on three seemingly unremarkable practices: reading the Bible, prayer, and fellowship with other believers. However, according to David Mathis, such "habits of grace" are the God-designed channels through which his glorious grace flows - making them life-giving practices for all Christians.
Whether it's hearing God's voice (the word), having his ear (prayer), or participating in his body (fellowship), such spiritual rhythms of the Christian life have the power to awaken our souls to God's glory and stir our hearts for lifelong service in his name. What's more, these seemingly simple practices grant us access to a host of spiritual blessings that we can only begin to imagine this side of eternity - and the incredible joy that such blessings bring to God's children today.

great intro to habits of grace (spir. disciplines)
Mathis does a great job of having the correct perspective and emphasis in this book - that is grounding everything in scripture, and doing all to the glory of God. this was much better than Foster's "celebrating discipline".

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 91 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Flourishing people are strong and weak. Two common temptations lure us away from abundant living: withdrawing into safety and grasping for power. True flourishing, says Andy Crouch, travels down an unexpected path - being both strong and weak. We see this unlikely mixture in the best leaders - people who use their authority for the benefit of others while also showing extraordinary willingness to face and embrace suffering. We see it in Jesus, who wielded tremendous power yet also exposed himself to hunger, ridicule, torture, and death. Rather than being opposites, strength and weakness are actually meant to be combined in every human life and community. Only when they come together do we find the flourishing for which we were made.
With the characteristic insight, memorable stories, and hopeful realism he is known for, Andy Crouch shows us how to walk this path so that the image of God can shine through us. Not just for our own good but for the sake of others. If you want to become the kind of person whose influence leads to healthy communities, someone with the strength to be compassionate and generous, this is the book for you. Regardless of your stage or role in life, whether or not you have a position of leadership, here is a way of love and risk so that we all, even the most vulnerable, can flourish.

Beware of this guys computerized voice
I cannot stand his pompous computery voice. I can't bare to listen to it even though the book version came highly recommended. Content may be good but I will have to read the real book if I want to find out.
