  • Rediscovering the Holy Spirit Audiobook by Michael Horton
Please open https://hotaudiobook.com ONLY on your standard browser Safari, Chrome, Microsoft or Firefox to download full audiobooks of your choice for free.
    Title: Rediscovering the Holy Spirit
Subtitle: God's Perfecting Presence in Creation, Redemption, and Everyday Life
    Author: Michael Horton
    Narrator: Tom Parks
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 13 hrs and 37 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 04-25-17
    Publisher: Zondervan
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
For the Spirit, being somewhat forgotten is an occupational hazard. The Holy Spirit is so actively involved in our lives that we can take his presence for granted. As they say, familiarity breeds contempt. Just as we take breathing for granted, we can take the Holy Spirit for granted simply because we constantly depend on him. Like the cane that soon feels like an extension of the blind man's own body, we too easily begin to think of the Holy Spirit as an extension of ourselves.
Yet the Spirit is at the center of the action in the divine drama, from Genesis 1:2 all the way to Revelation 22:17. The Spirit's work is as essential as the Father's and the Son's, yet the Spirit's work is always directed to the person and work of Christ. In fact the efficacy of the Holy Spirit's mission is measured by the extent to which we are focused on Christ. The Holy Spirit is the person of the Trinity who brings the work of the Father, in the Son, to completion. In everything that the Triune God performs, this perfecting work is characteristic of the Spirit.
In Rediscovering the Holy Spirit, author, pastor, and theologian Mike Horton introduces listeners to the neglected person of the Holy Spirit, showing that the work of God's Spirit is far more ordinary and common than we realize. Horton argues that we need to take a step back every now and again to focus on the Spirit himself - his person and work - in order to recognize him as someone other than Jesus or ourselves, much less something in creation. Through this contemplation we can gain a fresh dependence on the Holy Spirit in every area of our lives.

    Over my head
I wanted so much to understand everything in this book. There are so few books written on the Holy Spirit. But the author writes way over my head. Not really a layman's book but a deep study book that would be better purchased in book form. That way you can move at your own pace and look up all the words he uses to understand what he is talking about.
    Blue-ish but Hard to See?
Where does Rediscovering the Holy Spirit rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
While I wish I could hear the author read it himself, the narrator actually does a really great job and doesn't mess some some of the more technical terms, which didn't happen for Pilgrim Theology (the narrator on that one even mispronounced the name of biblical books). So this is one of the better ones I have heard where the narrator is not the author. The content, of course, is brilliant, but with audio books I am more concerned with the performance and ability to read at a natural pace with appropriate inflections and personality.
What did you like best about this story?
The Holy Spirit is so often misunderstood. By that, I mean, even among many Christians, when they talk about the Holy Spirit, they either unknowingly say heretical, non-Trinitarian things about Him, they refer to the Holy Spirit as an "it" instead of as the Third Person of the Trinity, or they sound like new age pagans who use the Holy Spirit as a means for power and personal betterment than to refer to Him as the Lord and Giver of life.

  • The Misunderstood Jew Audiobook by Amy Jill Levine

    Title: The Misunderstood Jew
Subtitle: The Church and the Scandal of the Jewish Jesus
    Author: Amy Jill Levine
    Narrator: Donna Postel
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 11 hrs and 7 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-21-17
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 32 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
In The Misunderstood Jew, scholar Amy-Jill Levine helps Christians and Jews understand the "Jewishness" of Jesus so that their appreciation of him deepens and a greater interfaith dialogue can take place. Levine's humor and informed truth - telling provokes honest conversation and debate about how Christians and Jews should understand Jesus, the New Testament, and each other.
    Critic Reviews:
"Written for the general public, this is an outstanding addition to the literature of interfaith dialogue." (Publishers Weekly)
    Members Reviews:
    Courageous
A courageous and forthright book about a difficult and controversial subject: Jesus and Judaism. She presents a substantial amount of evidence that many of Jesus' most familiar teachings derive from Judaism. But at the same time she is respectful of Christian tradition and beliefs.
We do neither side any good, she suggests, by trying to erase the differences between Judaism and Christianity. To Christians, Jesus is the Messiah, and within Christian tradition there are good reasons for believing that. To Jews, he is not the Messiah, and within Jewish tradition there are good reasons for believing that. She presents the reasons on both sides.
Part of Levine's courage appears in her willingness to take even possible allies to task. All too often, she says, even liberal Christian scholars and presses cast Judaism in the role of an oppressive and rigid system against which Jesus was fighting. (The real oppressors in first-century Palestine were the Romans.)
Donna Postel's narration seems at times to be channeling Amy-Jill Levine. I've heard some of Levine's lectures in the Great Courses series, and I had to remind myself from time to time that this book was being read by someone other than the author.
    Brilliant and Informative
I am niw able to ezplain away all kinds of inconsistencies that plague the darker corners of the Bible, particularly the N.T. which is supposed to base itself on the Old Testament with mathematical precision.
    Extremely educational
I may not agree with everything but that is not the purpose of this book. This book is meant to provoke thought and it succeeded beyond expectations.
    Thank you Ms Levine
    Not Levine's Best
Let me be clear - I LOVE Amy Jill Levine! This just wasn't my favorite material of hers. Let me first recommend her book on the Parables: "Stories by Jesus."

    Relevant and biblical
This book is one that i consider required reading for Christian disciples. It is chock full of scripture references and provides clarity on a subject that confuses many believers. Simply put, there is no such thing as a disciple that doesn't follow Jesus. If we can't hear him how can we follow him?
Teaching that can change your life
I trust the Blackabys who teach straight from the Bible and encourage readers to check for themselves. Learn more about God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit in Hearing God's Voice.
The authors have done a very good job of backing up their ideas with Scripture
The authors have done a very good job of backing up their ideas with Scripture. The book is a wonderful book for someone who is a Christian and desires to grow and mature more in their faith. The book teaches the reader how to develop their relationship with God.
    Practical Intimacy with God
I think Blackaby introduces intimacy with God in a non-mysterious and down to earth presentation. For those who may fear intimacy or mistrust anything beyond liturgy this is a good introduction to a personal God who hears and answers our every prayer with practical hints to understanding the language of God.
    Touching and teaching throughout.
Touching and teaching throughout. It stuck to the purpose of hearing God's voice and gave personal experiences as examples. I'd recommend this book to anyone that desires to get closer to God and know more about having a relationship with Him. Much thanks to Henry and Richard Blackaby and the Spirit that lives within.

There are four basic questions that confront each of us: Who am I? Where did I come from? Why am I here? And where am I going when I die? Your eternal destiny will be determined by your "world view" in addressing these issues. And there are really only two world views: either everything - including you - is the result of some kind of cosmic accident, or this is all the result of a deliberate design by a designer. This issue could not be more fundamental.
It comes as a shock to many to discover that every major theme and doctrine in the Bible has its roots in this "Book of Beginnings": sovereign election, salvation, justification by faith, believer's security, separation, disciplinary chastisement, the Divine Incarnation, the "rapture" of the church, death and resurrection, the priesthoods (both Aaronic and Melchizedekian), the antichrist, and even the Palestinian Covenant, which is being challenged by the continuing tensions throughout the world today, all have their roots in this critical foundational book of the Bible.

    Publisher's Summary:
Maybe you've known about grace for years. You grew up with it. You heard about it from the pulpits, in Bible classes, from radio and TV preachers.
But maybe there's more to grace than they told you. Yes, it's God's "unmerited favor to lost sinners," but did anyone tell you how grace can change you? How it can revolutionize the way you live?
Grace can give you freedom. Freedom to be creative, spontaneous. Freedom to think outside the box. Grace can make you want to know God, to be close to Him. Grace can cure your fears, improve your outlook, help you look at life through the lens of joy rather than the fog of pessimism.
Grace can strengthen your relationships, giving you freedom to be yourself - and freedom to let others be themselves - without feeling a need to judge, control, or manipulate one another. And yes, grace is God's incredible gift to each of us that shows His love daily in overflowing measures, giving us reason for hope and joy.
For the growing number of people who feel that there should be something more to their walk with God than the sometimes grim face of religion, The Grace Awakening offers a glorious alternative: the truth that sets us free.

    An awesome book on Grace!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this book. Chuck Swindoll definitely hit a home with this one. And as Pastor Chuck says a number of times in this book, "Join the Grace Awakening" . We can never get too much much of God's Grace!!
I love the message and content of this book
I gave this book one star, not because of the content. I love the message and content of this book. I love all of Swindoll's writings. But, the book description and front cover picture led me to believe I was purchasing the updated version with the thirty-one day devotional. This was NOT the version I revived on my kindle!! Very, very disappointing!!!
Don't buy Kindle if you want the updated version of the book!
Similar to a previous review, I purchased the Kindle version of this book, and did not receive the updated version with the 31 day devotional, even though I purchased directly from this link & this was the only book cover (the updated one with the rose) on this product. If you do want to have the devotional, steer clear of the Kindle version.
truly needed in this day of judge mentalists
I grew up in a Pentecostal church that had its rules & regulations, & they judged you by their preferences & standards. This book addresses such legalistic nonsense. In fact, if you ever find yourself in a church like that, RUN. These types of churches drove me & my family away from the grace of God, I've read this book twice, it's timeless, priceless wisdom, & on the mark.
    Five Stars
Such a great book. Very easy to read as well!
