    Format: Unabridged
Length: 6 hrs and 26 mins
    Language: English

    Publisher's Summary:
We say we're free in Christ, but many of us are still living in captivity - to fear, anger, shame, isolation, unforgiveness, and control. We're good at faking it around others, but we're exhausted by the ruse. Andi Andrew wants women to break free of their self-imposed prisons and live the lives that are rightly theirs in Christ.
Sharing her own intentional journey of finding true freedom by surrendering control of her heart and life to the God who welcomed her with open arms, Andrew encourages women to give their pain and brokenness to Jesus. She shows them how to purposefully take captive the lies they have believed and replace them with God's truth. Compassionate and biblically based, She Is Free is an invitation to women to step fully into the love that sets them free.

    Deeply Impacting
You feel like the Author is right there with you taking you by the hand and leading you to Jesus and into freedom.

    Title: A Crazy, Holy Grace
Subtitle: The Healing Power of Pain and Memory
    Author: Frederick Buechner
Narrator: Gabe Wicks, Henry O. Arnold
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 3 hrs and 59 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-03-17
    Publisher: Zondervan
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 10 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
When pain is real, why is God silent?
Frederick Buechner has grappled with the nature of pain, grief, and grace ever since his father committed suicide when Buechner was a young boy. He continued that search as a father when his daughter struggled with anorexia. In this essential collection of essays, including one never before published, Frederick Buechner finds that the God who might seem so silent is ever near. He writes about what it means to be a steward of our pain, and about this grace from God that seems arbitrary and yet draws us to his holiness and care. Finally, he writes about the magic of memory and how it can close up the old wounds with the memories of past goodnesses and graces from God.
Here now are the best of Buechner's writings on pain and loss, covering such topics as the power of hidden secrets, loss of a dearly beloved, letting go, resurrection from the ruins, peace, and listening for the quiet voice of God. And he reveals that pain and sorrow can be a treasure - an amazing grace.
Buechner says that loss will come to all of us, but he writes that we are not alone. Crazy and unreal as it may sometimes seem, God's holy, healing grace is always present and available if we are still enough to receive it.
    Members Reviews:
Love all things Buechner but narration is poor.
Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?
I would definitely recommend any of Buechner's books. His writing is beautiful and inspiring. I would not recommend this audiobook. His words are merely read, almost robotically. Very disappointing.
Who would you have cast as narrator instead of Gabe Wicks and Henry O. Arnold ?
Not sure, but someone who could have made the words come alive.
Could you see A Crazy, Holy Grace being made into a movie or a TV series? Who should the stars be?
    No

  • Mary as the Early Christians Knew Her Audiobook by Frederica Mathewes-Green

Title: Mary as the Early Christians Knew Her
Subtitle: The Mother of Jesus in Three Ancient Texts

    Narrator: Frederica Mathewes-Green
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 15 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-28-17
    Publisher: Frederica Mathewes-Green
Ratings: 5 of 5 out of 4 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Mary is the flower of femininity to some, a woman of power to others. She has been seen as a paragon of obedience as well as an instrument of liberation. Some have piled her status so high that it rivals that of her Son. Other do their best to ignore her. Behind all of those images is a girl who grew up to be the mother of Christ.
How did the first Christians view Mary? What did they believe about her early life, her childhood and marriage to Joseph, before the Annunciation? Frederica Mathewes-Green presents three of the earliest texts about Mary - a story, a prayer, and a hymn - and provides new translations and commentary. As we see Mary the way the early Christians did, we gain new and sometimes startling insights.

  • Paul Audiobook by Paula Fredriksen
Please open https://hotaudiobook.com ONLY on your standard browser Safari, Chrome, Microsoft or Firefox to download full audiobooks of your choice for free.
    Title: Paul
    Subtitle: The Pagans' Apostle
    Author: Paula Fredriksen
    Narrator: Pam Ward
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 8 hrs and 55 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 08-22-17
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 1 votes
    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Often seen as the author of timeless Christian theology, Paul himself heatedly maintained that he lived and worked in history's closing hours. His letters propel his listeners into two ancient worlds, one Jewish, one pagan. The first was incandescent with apocalyptic hopes, expecting God through his messiah to fulfill his ancient promises of redemption to Israel. The second teemed with ancient actors, not only human but also divine: angry superhuman forces, jealous demons, and hostile cosmic gods. Both worlds are Paul's, and his convictions about the first shaped his actions in the second.
Only by situating Paul within this charged social context of gods and humans, pagans and Jews, cities, synagogues, and competing Christ-following assemblies can we begin to understand his mission and message. This original and provocative book offers a dramatically new perspective on one of history's seminal figures.
    Critic Reviews:
"Brilliant, elegant, and important - this volume reshapes an entire field of study. Here stands the finest history of the Apostle Paul to appear in generations." (J. Albert Harrill, The Ohio State University)
    Members Reviews:
    Five Stars
    Brilliant and well written.
Excellent Scholarly work on Paul; accessible to laypersons as well
If you are a layperson with an interest in understanding Paul in his context and world, this is the book for you.
As evidenced by the other posted reviews, Fredriksen's work is held in great respect by scholars.
That tells you that you're on solid footing.
The beauty of this book, though, is that it is both an excellent scholarly work AND an accessible read for anyone with a serious interest in the subject.
I am a layperson who has read many (100?) scholarly books on everything from scribal culture (David Carr's 'Writing on the Tablet of the Heart') to Revelations (Elaine Pagels 'Revelations') (both highly recommended).
That said, there are a few books that I have purchased based on reviews that I have been somewhat disappointed in.
The reasons are usually one of the following:
    1) the author has a religious/theological agenda or bias;
    2) the author expects you to be able to read Greek, Hebrew, German, and French; and
    3) the author is writing solely for an academic audience; or solely for a lay audience.
In "Paul - The Pagans' Apostle" Fredriksen avoids all of these traps.
    1) Theological Agenda: I have read four of her books and I still cannot tell you if I think she's a Christian, Jew, or other. This book is not about her views, it's about Paul's at the time he lived.
    2) Translations: Fredriksen (like a number of other scholars) takes the extra step to give you the Greek word (with its English translation) that sits on the Hebrew word (with its English translation). I have read a number of scholarly books that say 'here's the Greek work and here's the Hebrew word' (assuming you know the meaning of each).
    3) Single Audience: I am not a 'scholar' (so I will leave it to the other reviewers who are to address that aspect). Rather, I am a layperson who would love to be a scholar but did not have the time (or ability) to learn Greek, Hebrew, Latin, German, French, etc.

    Genres: Religion & Spirituality, Christianity
    Publisher's Summary:
Have you ever wished you could win a lottery? Or inherit a great fortune? We have already won an inheritance that is beyond our comprehension! An inheritance that transcends any quantitative measurement. In fact, it was set aside for us before the world began!
Ephesians is regarded by many as the loftiest pinnacle of the New Testament, and yet is also a practical manual for personal combat.
The Epistle to the Ephesians is the most mystical of Paul's epistles. It is regarded by some as the highest conceptual ground in the New Testament. It is the crown and climax of Pauls' letters: it looks at our salvation from pre-creation election to the vantage point of "the heavenlies" - a panoramic view of the wondrous and glorious work of God in Jesus Christ our lord. Its uniqueness also includes the revelation of Paul's unique mandate and the character and nature of the Church. This study will also explore its singular allusion to four-dimensional hyperspace, and its detailed depiction of the seven elements of the Armor of God. A high-altitude, spiritual flight with down-to-earth, practical consequences!

The Messiah Truly is Coming Again Soon--Maranatha!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
If you, like me, have tried to read the New Testament Book of Revelation with understanding but were left with more questions than answers, then, like me, this book will help bring a tremendous understanding of the current days and times.
What other book might you compare Your Guide to the Apocalypse to and why?
Honestly so far, I have found nothing comparable to this book in its revelation of deep spiritual truths with understanding and simplicity. Pastor Matthew Hagee was given some wonderful insight and knowledge into the signs of the End Times or the End of the Age.
    Which scene was your favorite?
There are three areas of teaching I found most profound. First was King Nebuchadnezzars dream interpretation: A Story of Five Kingdoms (Daniel 2), where this current age is a kingdom made of Iron and Clay; which do not mix... a perfect picture of the world today. Second, this is the first time in history that ALL the predictions of the end times have been accomplished and all that is needed to precipitate the acceptance of the world of the anti-Christ. And third, the tremendous teachings and warnings provided to God's people in the letters to the churches of Asia Minor found in Revelation 2 and 3, He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
There were several moments in the book that had a tremendous effect on me--Aha moments, conviction moments, joyful moments, and thankful moments. I learned so much from this excellent book. It truly is a guide to the apocalypse, just as its title announces!
    Any additional comments?
Pastor Matt Hagee is definitely his father's son.
