A dark and evil ruler has placed a curse on the tribal people of Sikuku Island - the same island where the teens have been transported. Now, they must help the tribal people break the curse if they ever want to see their own planet again. Alex and her companions quickly learn that there is so much more beyond their comfortable lives in Pollock Pines and its legendary Spirit Lake.

Members Reviews:

Interesting story

The concept that the water transports to another world was really cool. Especially the extremely unique curse that the tribes people faced. I also really liked the idea presented about Godin. The story ends nicely but most definitely suggests there are more books to come (not sure if already published).

As for presentation the reader did a good job however there were sometimes words mispronounced (or maybe regional dialect differences?) as well as pauses that seemed unnatural for fluid speech but didn't really distract too much from the story.

Publisher's Summary:

John Bird Ray discovers that writing a book is an absorbing journey - especially if you're part of the story. Swirls of ink take him on a fantasy linked with reality. A reflection of the world twisting and turning on the roller coaster of time, filled with memories that never die and dreams that never end! The words of souls flow through fingertips like water tumbling over rocks, down streams, out to oceans, and up to the atmosphere, transforming the spirit into ideas that rain down then melt into everyone's imagination as ExPRESSION.

ExPressions is Captivating

A thoughtful novel and a delight to read. This author uses his imaginative craft to tell the tale of a man in the grips of an obsession to write.

John Bird Ray leaves no stone unturned in his search for insiration and ultimately finds . . . .

This book bubbles along buoyantly and gradually reveals a captivating narrative with dark depths beneath.

It will keep you up late turning the pages to read just one chapter more-- Enchanting!

It is about me and you and all of us, and ...

This style of writing and the warmth that

is created from the contact of the people

evoke the writings of Virginia Woolfe in

the 8th chapter of To the Lighthouse

(5 May 1927).

As in her writing, this writer captures

the essentials that bring people together

and make their space, a place to feel for

the reader, the little details that make the

world are the details here that are numerated

and build their world.

I enjoyed reading the words, one by one

as they build thousands of already lived images

and thousands of things that make us

human.

It is about me and you and all of us, and ...

from a PhD student from the EPFL, in Switzerland.

Expression treads on enchanted ground.

Expression treaded on enchanted ground. The plot thickens and finally comes to fruition. Couldn't put it down.

Awesome Book!

This book will keep you wanting to read and not put it down! I read the whole book in a matter of hours! And then read it again!

Title: The Mystery of the Skeleton Key

Author: Bernard Capes

Narrator: Finlay Robertson

Format: Unabridged

Length: 7 hrs and 40 mins

Language: English

Release date: 09-24-15

Publisher: HarperCollins Publishers Limited

Genres: Teens, Mysteries & Thrillers

Publisher's Summary:

The fourth in a new series of classic detective stories from the vaults of HarperCollins involves a tragic accident during a shooting party. As the story switches between Paris and Hampshire, the possibility of it not being an accident seems to grow more likely.

The Detective Story Club, launched by Collins in 1929, was a clearing house for the best and most ingenious crime stories of the age, chosen by a select committee of experts. Now, almost 90 years later, these books are the classics of the Golden Age, republished at last with the same popular cover designs that appealed to their original readers.

The Mystery of the Skeleton Key, first published in 1919, has the distinction of being the first detective novel commissioned and published by Collins, though it was Bernard Capes only book in the genre, as he died shortly before it was published. This is how the Detective Club announced their edition 10 years later:

'Mr Arnold Bennett, in a recent article, criticised the ad hoc characterisation and human interest in the detective novels of to-day. The Mystery of the Skeleton Key contains, in addition to a clever crime problem and plenty of thrills, a sensible love story, humour, excellent characterisation and strong human interest. The scenes are laid in Paris and Hampshire. The story deals with a crime committed in the grounds of a country house and the subsequent efforts of a clever young detective the track down the perpetrator. The Selection Committee of The Detective Story Club have no hesitation in recommending this splendid thriller as one which will satisfy the most exacting reader of detective fiction.

Critic Reviews:

"If Hugh had returned from hunting by another path, or if he had left his gun behind him, or if one could have told just when the shot was heard, perhaps the murder of beautiful Annie Evans might have been cleared up without so much effort on the part of the famous Sergeant Ridgeway from Scotland Yard, or so much mutual suspicion on the part of the various guests assembled at the Hall. Baron Le Sage of doubtful fame might have gone on playing chess, and pretty Audrey's love affairs might not have become so tangled. But it's just as well as it is, perhaps, for the result of all these complications is a thoroughly exciting detective story." (Black Mask Magazine)

Members Reviews:

Bit of a slow start

I liked the story when it got going but it's quite wordy unnecessarily at points. I wouldn't read another audiobook by the same author as I felt I had to persevere to get into the story
