Members Reviews:

The best of three modern Horror complications I have read thus far!

I love this number for the fact that not only was the very first story I read out of the box scarily entertaining but it was also suitable for a broad age group from young to old alike. The only issues I had (very minor for this book) were the inability to jump forward from the table of contents to whatever story I chose to read and that the stories listed were not in order (They run "Night Train", "The Cave", "The Chamber Crypt", "Croaker", "The Tattooist" and lastly "The Chair"). This is one I will be returning to in the near future as well as looking into more works from this author! For more good reads this Halloween season please see my reviews including a brief description along with appropriate age group for "Mr. Spider (Spooky Spook)" by Hollyn Overton for children, "Don't Lend A Monster Your Favorite Toy" by Elwyn Tate for children, "Terra Vonnel and the Skulls of Aries" by D. C. Akers Pirates/Paranormal for Teen/YA, "Zero Hunters #1" by Jay Carvajal Vampire/graphic novel for Teen/YA, "Of Evil and Darkness" by Jay Carvajal Paranormal/graphic novel for Teen/YA, "Dead Stop" by D. Nathan Hilliard Zombie/horror for Adults, "Edgar Allan Poe: Complete Tales + Poems (Illustrated)(Top Five Classics) Adults, "Wild Wolf's Twisted Tails" Thriller/Adults and "Great British Horror Volume 1" Adults. Enjoy!

WICKED!!!!!

I can not say enough about how good an author Steve Burt is.

Yes, these are supposed to be horror stories for teenagers, but I am the mother of two teenage boys (Please feel sorry for me!!!) and I have passed the half century mark in my age but...

I cannot put Steve's books down, they are so good, I am mesmerized by them.

Out of 5 stars, I give Steve Burt's books a 20*

As entertaining as before!

It has been a long time since a book has entertained me so much so that I recommend it to a friend. Wicked Odd is filled from cover to cover with fascinating stories and charming characters. This guy is on the ball when he writes and I would give it more than 5 stars if I could.

Bravo from start to finish.

4th book in great series

Wicked Odd is the fourth in the Stories to Chill the Heart Series: Odd Lot (Benjamin Franklin Mystery/Suspense silver medalist), Even Odder (Bram Stoker Award Nominee, runner-up to Harry Potter), Oddest Yet (Bram Stoker Award Winner that beat Dean Koontz and tied Clie Barker). Its six stories make the four-book total 39, and are they ever weird! Two of these tie in to the author's multi-award-winning new series, FreeKs: Psychic Teens with Paranormal Abilities. "The Chair" is about twins who appear in the thriller FreeK Camp, the boy having remote vision, the girl having remote hearing. Another story, "The Tattooist," ties in to the no-yet-released second book, FreeK Accidents. These stories are as bizarre as the original Twilight Zone stories, if not more so. Great for tweens, teens, and adults.

Struggling with this one until halfway in, then picked up the pace finally

While I loved "Wicked Odd" by same author I was initially having trouble finding a tale that grabbed me with this book. I had read "The Power of the Pen", "The Praying Man" and "The Swimmer" to no avail until I finally struck gold with "Shadow Meadow". I went back to "Wicked Odd" to see if it was a fluke having rendered a judgement having only read "The Tattooist" but I was also impressed by "The Cave" as well so I am going to stick with my initial rating there . "Oddest Yet" I feel is deserving of 3.5 stars rounded up having won itself a Bram Stoker award after all. For more good Halloween reads please see my reviews including a brief description along with appropriate age group for "Mr. Nathan Hilliard Zombie/horror for Adults, "Edgar Allan Poe: Complete Tales + Poems (Illustrated)(Top Five Classics) Adults, "Wild Wolf's Twisted Tails" Thriller/Adults, and "Great British Horror Volume 1" Adults. Enjoy!

Very interesting stories.

My review of this compilation is almost the same as the others. Great ideas well defined characters and the likes. My only demotion of a star is the re using of another story in a previous book. It is his story after all but the pages that were used to fill that spot could have been used for another great story. Sad really. I was expecting all originals but just one in a few dozen isn't all that bad I suppose. I thoroughly enjoyed the story with Steven King as he is one of my top 3 favourite authors in the horror genre. Kudos again Burt.

Odd

I cannot stress enough what a good author Steve Burt is.

My Sinister Minister!

All of his books are great.

Check out FreeK Camp and FreeK Show.

Horror stories for teens, but I, as the teens' Mom, can't put the books down!

The third book

I downloaded and read the whole series by Steve Burr. They are very bone-chilling, yet with a minimum of gore and violence. I hope there will be a Odd #6

Good Book

If you are a scary story fan like I am, you will like this book. The book is made up of short stories. Some of the stories aren't necessarily scary, but they are still great.

A Jewel of a Summer

Perhaps I'm biased, because the author is my cousin, but I loved this book!!! I read 1 or 2 chapters aloud to my 9 year old daughter before bed each night. She enjoyed the book, almost always begging for another chapter in addition to the one I'd already read! The book is a fun mix of enjoying carefree summer days, learning what it means to be a true friend, and solving an engaging mystery. It was time well-spent reading this along with my daughter.
