    Publisher's Summary:

    Release date: 11-21-11

Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 31 votes

    Publisher's Summary:
Lewis Black may not be the last angry man, but he is certainly the funniest. The celebrated political comedian, master of comedic angst, New York Times best-selling author and Daily Show regular is back to discuss life, politics and his new book about his least favorite holiday, Christmas. In Im Dreaming of a Black Christmas. Connie Chung is an Emmy Award-winning network television anchor and reporter whose career has spanned NBC, CBS, ABC, CNN and MSNBC.
    Editorial Reviews:
Political comedian, New York Times best-selling author, and The Daily Show regular Lewis Black sits with Emmy Award-winning reporter Connie Chung to discuss his autobiographical book I'm Dreaming of a Black Christmas, which Black, in his usual sardonic style, describes as less a book about Christmas than a book about being single. Chung playfully nudges Black about his past relationships and the camaraderie between the two is apparent as Black eases into speaking on his favorite political topics, including his scathing opinions on Alaskan voters.

He has a lot to say; she talks too much.
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
    Yes, despite her talkiness.
Who was your favorite character and why?
    Mr. Black
How did the narrator detract from the book?
Interviewer not only talked but laughed loud and long.

I know it's exciting to interview someone interesting, but it works better if one can calm down and remember it's about the other person.

    Title: The Doors
Subtitle: A Lifetime of Listening to Five Mean Years
    Author: Greil Marcus
    Narrator: Ray Porter
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 4 hrs and 45 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 11-01-11
    Publisher: Blackstone Audio, Inc.
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 10 votes
Genres: Arts & Entertainment, Celebrity Bios
    Publisher's Summary:
The best critic of popular culture in America considers the attraction of the Doors, which has endured despite the bands short life, sampling the lasting songs and legendary performances that made Jim Morrison and his band rock n roll legends.
A fan from the moment the Doors first album took over KMPX, the revolutionary FM rock n roll station in San Francisco, Greil Marcus saw the band many times at the legendary Fillmore Auditorium and the Avalon Ballroom in 1967. Five years later it was all over. Forty years after singer Jim Morrison was found dead in Paris and the group disbanded, one could drive from here to there, changing from one FM pop station to another, and be all but guaranteed to hear two, three, four of the Doors songs in an hour - every hour. Whatever the demands in the music, they remained unsatisfied, in the largest sense unfinished, and absolutely alive. There have been many books on the Doors. This is the first to bypass their myth, their mystique, and the death cult of both Jim Morrison - and the era he was made to personify - and focus solely on the music. All these years later, it is a new story.
Griel Marcus is the author of Bob Dylan by Greil Marcus, When That Rough God Goes Riding, The Shape of Things to Come, Mystery Train, Dead Elvis, In the Fascist Bathroom, Double Trouble, Like a Rolling Stone, and The Old, Weird America. With Werner Sollors he is the editor of A New Literary History of America. Since 2000 he has taught at Princeton and Berkeley, in Minnesota, and at the New School in New York. His column Real Life Rock Top 10 appears regularly in the Believer. He has lectured at University of California, Berkeley, the Whitney Museum of Art, and Princeton University. He lives in Berkeley.
    Critic Reviews:
Nobody reads a song like Greil Marcus, whose prose is as passionate and omnivorous as the music he loves. Here he travels by way of Thomas Pynchon, pop art, and Charles Manson to bring the chaotic, majestic, death-haunted Doors back to doomed and haunting life. (Salman Rushdie)
    Members Reviews:
    The worst book ever written
What could have made this a 4 or 5-star listening experience for you?
If you buy this book hoping to learn anything about the doors then don't bother. There is no factual information about the doors, no real research whatsoever. A total waste of time I'm afraid.
What was most disappointing about Greil Marcuss story?
This book is the self indulgent ramblings of the author with no clear or relevant information to impart to the listener.
You didnt love this book... but did it have any redeeming qualities?
    No.

"This book by the son of Harpo Marx gave me pleasure. (Or, as Groucho might have put it, this book pleasured me.) It's a journey of self-discovery, and Bills book is a useful primer for youngsters who hope to make a living in the arts." (David J. Hogan,
    Filmfax)
    Members Reviews:
    A pleasant surprise
I have long been a fan of Harpo Marx, having read Harpo Speaks, so I was naturally curious as to the point of view of his son. I bought the book on a lark, hoping that it would be, if not at least interesting, then perhaps it would have some funny family stories. To my delight, the book was insightful, fun and yes, interesting. Bill Marx has a good speaking voice and the stories are presented in a way that make you feel as if you are sitting on the couch in his home, sipping a warm beverage and speaking to him in person. I enjoyed it and am very happy that I have this in my collection. I will recommend this to friends and know that they will enjoy it as much as I have.
    Performance Excellent - Recording NotSoMuch
I found the content of this book quite delightful. Hearing Mr. Marx's reminisces of his childhood and music career, with and without his famous dad, was very enjoyable. Bill's delivery of his story was engaging as well. What I didn't like was the overall production of the material. In sections, the music that should have played "under" Marx's narration was so loud I could barely hear him. There were sections that sounded like it was being recorded in a bathroom, some that sounded muffled and some that were just ... odd. I "get" what was trying to be done with the echo effect on Harpo's "heavenly voice;" it was just poorly executed. The harp glissandos that occasionally popped up were poorly recorded. I would love to hear this book with better production values. Still, I would recommend this book to anyone who is a fan of Bill Marx and his dad.
    Charming Presentation
Would you try another book from Bill Marx and/or Bill Marx?
His stories might all be exhausted.
What was the most interesting aspect of this story? The least interesting?
Growing up in the proximity of the Marx Brothers is everything to this story.
Which character as performed by Bill Marx was your favorite?
    Harpo Marx.

    Release date: 10-26-10

    Publisher's Summary:
Charming, engaging, and surprisingly forthright, Michael Caine gives us his insider's view of Hollywood and the story of his brilliant second act.
When he was in his late 50s, Michael Caine believed his glamorous, rags-to-riches Hollywood career had come to an end. The scripts being sent his way were worse and worse. When one script really disappointed, he called the producer to complain about the part. The producer said, "No, no, we don't want you for the lover, we want you for the father."
Salvation came in the unlikely form of his old friend Jack Nicholson, who convinced him to give acting one more shot. What followed was not only an incredible personal transformation but also one of the most radical comebacks in film history. Learning to accept his new role both on camera and in his own life, Caine went on to win his second Oscar, be knighted by the queen, and deliver some of his best performances to date. Now he shares the spectacular story of his life, from his humble upbringing in London's poverty-stricken Elephant and Castle, his military service, touching marriage and family life, and lively adventures with friends, to legendary meetings with fellow stars, forays as a restaurateur, and hilarious off-screen encounters from his glittering five-decade career. Caine brings his gift for storytelling and his insider's view to a tale that is funny, warm, and deeply honest.

    so much truth
he said the naked truth the whole time, telling us his riveting story of how he became famous.
    A true masterpiece
This is a must listen for any Leslie Nielson fan! I only wish for more.
5 Stars if Unabridged - Highly Recommend
This a must for anyone that enjoyed him in anything he ever did. The only thing wrong with this book is that it is not unabridged and that it ends. Narrated by Nielsen himself was an honor and an excellent decision. Better than the book because he narrates. If you have the book you definately want this recording. He mixes his comic wit and timing with interesting biography. He reaches back to his start and looks at the struggles experienced trying to establish what would eventually become a successful career. Many funny stories with many told in almost a stand-up routine format. You may feel overwhelmed at times with the joking but this is one book I can honestly come back to for a good laugh anytime. We will miss you Mr. Nielsen and thanks for the laughter.
Vintage Leslie Nielsen in character. I miss him!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Ya gotta be a fan of the actor to enjoy this book. But most people seeking it out probably are.
What did you like best about this story?
The famous actor with a dry wit tells his 'biography' in character. There's so much farce you aren't sure what's legit versus him pulling your leg. That's fine with me. It was a refreshing taste of his classic style that had me cracking up over his corny scenarios and word play.
What about Leslie Nielsens performance did you like?
Just like his movies, you have to actively listen or much of the humor will zoom right past.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
    It goes by pretty fast.
    Any additional comments?
If you want serious facts you'll get frustrated because his yarns are blended with with puns and humorous nonsense.
