A Wonderful, Intelligent Children's Book that All Ages Will Love
This book is a wonderful story to which everyone with children can relate. Joey, with his mother's and teacher's help, transforms his love for collecting boxes into an altogether higher, and altruistic, level. But, I won't spoil it for you! What I loved about the book is the dialogue. The conversations are realistic and intelligent, a terrific change from many childrens' books that cast children and parents as simpletons. The illustrations are beautiful and fit the words in the book. Children, adults and even teens will love it. I highly recommend it.
This is the very special story about Joeyâs big box dilemma ...
Joey peeked out over the sill of the window and spotted a big truck in their driveway. Two Best Washer men smiled and waved at him as they prepared to unload a dishwasher. Joey jumped up and down as the men wheeled a ginormous box inside the house! âThatâs the biggest box ever!â he exclaimed. âWait âtil I tell my friends at school.â The biggest box ever was going to have to head to the recycle, but when Joey looked at it, he had an idea that was as big as the box. It was just perfect for his room and thatâs where it was going to go!
Up, up, up the stairs it went! It was a great box that became a fort and even a spaceship, but âevery day it filled up Joeyâs entire room.â Squish! Not much room in his room and he even had a hard time getting out his door. Joey was very sad, but it was time for the box to go. Would it fit in the closet? Nope. How about under the bed? Nope. When he went shopping with his Mommy, there was yet another ginormous box. This one was a special box with a banner that said âNeighbors Helping Neighbors.â Mmmmm! Could Joey keep his box if he could make a special one like that? It was time to put his box to work!
This is the very special story about Joeyâs big box dilemma. Of course the âotherâ box, the special one, was a food collection box for the food pantry. Itâs never too early for young children to learn how to help others and âdo a big mitzvah.â Thereâs a great little twist at the end that everyone will be able to appreciate. The tale is very lively, fun, and carries with it the marvelous message of helping others. The artwork is vibrant, colorful, and has a nice touch of humor to it. This is yet another charming book by Deborah Lakritz, author ofSay Hello, Lily.
