    Editorial Reviews:
A timeless classic narrated in warm and friendly tones by Bruce Bayley Johnson. A very old couple decide to get a feline friend for companionship, but when the old man finds a hill covered in "hundreds of cats, thousands of cats, millions and billions and trillions of cats", he can't help taking them all home. Unfortunately, the cats "eat each other up" when asked who is prettiest, and the only one left is a scrawny kitten who hid because she didn't think she was in the running. Given the right kind of love and nourishment, she blooms into a beauty. This is a sweet story, and children will love repeating the "millions of cats" refrain.

    Slideshow is a cool feature
Classic book, good narration and unobtrusive sound effects. The slide show of illustrations from the book was a nice surprise. I wish all kids books came with them.
    Excellent production and classic story!
    Any additional comments?
The Weston Woods productions for young children are wonderful! Please add more of these and similar productions by Scholastic, etc. (classic picture books with narration) to Audible catalog.

A Mississippi town in 1964 gets riled when tempers flare at the segregated public pool. As much as Gloriana June Hemphill, or Glory as everyone knows her, wants to turn 12, there are times when Glory wishes she could turn back the clock a year. Jesslyn, her sister and former confidante, no longer has the time of day for her now that she'll be entering high school. Then there's her best friend, Frankie. Things have always been so easy with Frankie, and now suddenly they aren't. Maybe it's the new girl from the North that's got everyone out of sorts. Or maybe it's the debate about whether or not the town should keep the segregated public pool open.
Augusta Scattergood has drawn on real-life events to create a memorable novel about family, friendship, and choices that aren't always easy.

George apparently swallows other creatures. Hmm, whatever. We LOVE this story! John Lithgow is fantastic for the story. Although my son can't imagine the narrator telling the story, I can see John perfectly reading this. This is requested by my 3 year old atleast once per night. Usually more. Suggestion for other parents who like this, Click Clack Moo!

    Publisher's Summary:
When Mrs. Tweezers convinces Owen's parents that their son is too attached to Fuzzy, his beloved blanket, Owen vehemently disagrees.
    Members Reviews:
There are different ways to begin letting go... Owen's mom knows that!
Sharing the name of our middle grandson was the primary reason I looked into this book, for whom it was being purchased, though its status as a Caldecott Honor book coupled with its inclusion on Amazon's book editors "100 Children's Books to Read in a Lifetime" didn't hurt!
In this cute story, Owen the mouse - since infancy - has had a fuzzy yellow blanket as his constant companion... perhaps not AS fuzzy as it once was, considering it's gone through the rigours of typical childhood play - both indoors and outdoors - along with being a mealtime companion. Despite being stained, torn and ratty, Owen believes "Fuzzy is perfect." However, nosy neighbor mouse Mrs. Tweezers decides Owen - who'll be starting school soon - is too old to be carrying it around, and suggests a few "remedies" to his parents (the Blanket Fairy, who operates in much the same way as the Tooth Fairy, and the "vinegar trick" - which is exactly what you'd imagine it to be! - but little Owen has his own remedies for those tactics. When Mrs. Tweezers finally suggests to his parents that they simply say "no" to its continuing place in Owen's life, he's inconsolable. Oh, go blow your nose, Mrs.Tweezers! Owen's mother - as loving and sympathetic mothers will do - comes up with an ingenious way to compromise, snipping and sewing that treasured big piece of cloth into a much smaller handkerchief-sized piece, which Owen can continue to carry around and use in multi-purpose ways as always, until he naturally outgrows it - a compromise which even hushes up nosy Mrs. Tweezers!
Upon reading it, a couple of things hit me - first, it would've been a more obvious fit for our oldest grandson (who DID have a "blankie" that was hard to phase out), while our middle grandson has never had a typical "lovie" he's clung to, but also WHOOSH - did it bring back memories for me of an absolutely beloved doll from my childhood, which I found one day (while roller skating in our garage) in a trash can! My dear mother recalls to this day how horrified I was, and no manner of cajoling ("We'll get you a new doll!") or explanation ("She's falling apart... one of her eyes doesn't close any longer, all of her eyelashes have been plucked out, half of her hair is gone!") would console me. And while sometimes it IS best to just "rip off the band-aid", my wise mother decided that - for whatever reasons - I was just not yet ready to lose that piece of my childhood. (And guess what... the arrival of new presents under the tree and my expanding interests allowed for an eventual, much more natural and peaceful parting of the ways!)
Here's what I know for sure - from being a youngster once myself, through raising two sons, and now being blessed with four grandchildren - peer pressure to conform is there not only for kids, but for parents as well, and there will always be "Mrs. Tweezers"-types around, dispensing advice (no matter how well-intentioned) as to what "should" or "should not" be happening when it comes to your youngsters.

    Title: The Velveteen Rabbit
    Author: Margery Williams
    Narrator: Juliet Stevenson
    Format: Unabridged
    Length: 27 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 12-01-17
    Publisher: Nosy Crow
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
This new edition of the timeless classic is beautifully narrated by BAFTA-nominated actor Juliet Stevenson.
When the Velveteen Rabbit first arrives in the nursery, he is snubbed by the other toys. But the Rabbit soon makes friends with the Skin Horse, who explains how toys can become 'real', if only they are loved enough. The Velveteen Rabbit longs for this to happen until, one day, he finds that he is Boy's very favourite toy. They play together through a long, golden summer and, even though Rabbit becomes shabbier and shabbier, he becomes 'real' to the boy who loves him so much. The rabbits in the garden think otherwise - how can Rabbit be real when he can't leap and hop? But when Boy is ill with Scarlet Fever, and Rabbit is thrown away, Rabbit finally discovers what it truly means to be real. As he sheds a tear, a magical fairy transforms him into a real, wild rabbit, though her parting words remind him that he was always real to the boy.

Would Recommend, Good Book for Children
Very good book to read to your children. My wife loved hearing this story when she was little. I never heard of it until just last year when she told me about it. We gave the book to one of our friends who just has a baby and she loves reading the book to her son. If you want a good children's book, I would recommend the Velveteen Rabbit.
That first chapter I heard was beautiful.
I listened to the Audio supplied on one of the Amazon pages for the book. Bought as a baby shower gift. Have not had the pleasure of reading it personally. I am considering buying a copy just for my own personal satisfaction. That first chapter I heard was beautiful.
    Heartwarming.
Even though I did not have this book as child, I had heard of it and wanted to know the story. I was afraid it would break my heart, but instead it brought me peace. I, too, have always wanted to be "real" but didn't know it's real meaning. Now I do.
The perfect children's book of all time!
This book, of all children's books, is one of the very best. It is touching and teaches unconditional love. I can remember my own very special stuffed animal, Puppy, and, in fact, I still have him. The love and connection a child has for his very first stuffed toy is something that remains throughout their lives and gives them a sense of comfort and safety. I highly recommend this book to anyone who has a child, or knows a child, or who was a child, and that pretty much includes everyone.
    It is a beautiful, loving
It is a beautiful, loving, sentimental story with a happy ending.
I first read this to my 31yr. old son when he was a toddler & have kept the book to pass on to a grandchild if I should be blessed to have one. I always cherish the memories of bedtime reading.

Title: The Buddha's Apprentice at Bedtime

    Release date: 03-21-16
    Publisher: Bolinda Publishing Pty Ltd
Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Kids, Ages 5-7
    Publisher's Summary:
Practising Buddhist and master storyteller Dharmachari Nagaraja weaves a thrilling narrative spell while at the same time conveying basic life lessons that will help children to develop their personality, deal with their anxieties, and find peace and confidence as they grow up.
The stories explore themes from the Eightfold Path, which is Buddhism's practical route to a happy life. Topics covered, with the lightest of touches, include speaking in a kind and truthful manner, behaving with compassion, thinking selflessly and avoiding the pitfalls of egotism.
Although providing gentle guidance on the art of living well, which is the basis of true happiness, each story is also compelling in its own right, featuring characters, settings and events that every child will find absorbing.
Each narrative concludes with an affirmation that helps to draw out its positive message and provide a starting-point for discussion and further enjoyment.
The helpful introduction provides insights into the value of Buddhist principles for children and shows how visualisation, imaginative thinking and even first steps in meditation can help to nurture young minds and hearts.

We absolutely adore this series of books. First off the book is a great quality. It is paperback but the cover and pages are a really nice, thick quality. Second the artwork is fantastic. Both my kids and I spend a lot of time just taking in the images. Third the stories are great. They all have a valuable moral and are presented in a way that is engaging and relatable to children.
Negative Examples to Set up a Positive Lesson
The stories in this book have worthwhile messages for kids and adults. However, these stories use relational aggression and unkind language to set up these lessons. There are specific examples of people planning to be deceitful, lying, teasing, sarcasm, yelling and just being mean. Sometimes the way a lesson is "taught" to a character in the story is through an unkind act (i.e. "I let you see and feel what the little rabbit saw and felt as you hurt it.") I do not think exposing my children (4 and 6 y/o) to this is worthwhile when there are stories that teach virtues without specific ways to be unkind. If a person is unkind (I know this is reality) that can simply be said instead of providing examples specifically (see below for quotes). The lessons at the end are also a bit forced and preachy. At the end of most of stories (stopped reading them to my children after a few and skimmed the rest) I didn't feel at peace.
The following are just a few examples from the book of dialog that I did not enjoy reading to my children:
"You'd forget your own head if it wasn't stuck on" said her mother (to her daughter)
"It's just a dumb animal" laughed Hazel "Are you a bit stupid? You talk to animals do you?"
"Hey stupid pig get a move on." ... "Lazy pig!" cried Priscilla " Who are you calling stupid and lazy?" grunted Pig.
"Guards lock up all the children"
I have read the first Buddha Before Bedtime and I liked it much more. The stories seam similar to what the tales might have been originally and the messages are more blended into the story.
I thought this would be as good and bought it before seeing it.
