What A Fun Way To Learn How To Tell A Story!
Would you listen to Gooney Bird Greene again? Why?
Absolutely. In fact this is a story my nearly 8 year old chooses to listen to many nights before falling asleep.
Have you listened to any of Lee Adamss other performances before? How does this one compare?
I haven't, but I would certainly be willing to. The performance for this book is excellent and makes it fantastic. This is a book I'd prefer to listen to than to read to myself.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes. We listened to it while traveling and it kept us entertained as the miles flew by.
    Any additional comments?
My kids laughed out loud to Gooney Bird Greene's antics and stories. As a mom I was cheering as I heard her demonstrate telling and interesting story. What a fantastic way to teach creative writing!
    Kids love it!
My kids really enjoyed listening, and when the story was done, they realized they had effortlessly learned a lot about story telling. Their only complaint was that it was not longer.
fun way to learn to tell stories
my daughter loved it. she enjoyed learning from the main character how to make stories extra interesting.
    Great Story, Great Narrator
Lee Adams is perfect for this novel. Gooney Bird kept my kids happy on a sixteen-hour car trip. We can't wait to listen to more of Gooney Bird's "absolutely, true stories!"

    Stereo typed and disrespectful
This is an old stereotyped book with words of stupid and lazy throughout. I bought it used, the indside the inside was stamped: "withdrawn from the library shelf" Well, Duh no wonder!!!! I read it to my 4-5 year old class, just to see their reaction, and they were just as troubled by the angry, disrespectful language. You don't need to be brutish and disrespectful in order to make a point. This book is terrible, I won't even give my copy away, I'd be too embarrassed to be a previous owner.
    Quiet Trickery
This story deals with unspoken trickery which is cleverly shown through the eyes of the illustrator.
    Fun illustrations and story.
I teach pre-k and was initially reticent to purchase this book based on the other reviews about the use of the word "stupid".Though I am a fan of stone soup and all of its versions I couldn't resist and very glad that I didn't. While the narrator refers to his help as stupid, it was a great lesson for the children to realize that it is actually the narrator who is a bit daft. Plus, it opened up discussion about name calling. I thing it is a delightful, fun and visually appealing book and I am very happy I added it to my personal library.
    Delicious Stone Soup
The premise of the well known story is the same but the actual depiction has just enough difference to make it interesting and new. The interaction between the old fisherman and the lazy but delightful boys is humorous and heart felt. By setting the story in China the reader is given the opportunity to learn a bit about the Asian culture. There's also a recipe included for Stone Soup. Recommend for young readers.
    Five Stars
Fun story. Interesting version of this common world folk tale.

    Love this series of books
My favorite of all the Catwing books -- a little darker than the others, but a very happy ending. Great to read to ages 6 and up, or on their own for readers 8 plus.

    Good book
My daughter is always super excited when she gets a new Cam Jansen book. She loves all of these stories especially because they are all mystery books. This one is one of her favors. In my opinion they have the right amount of pages and hard to read words for a second grader. This series was also highly recommended by her teacher to strenghten her reading skills.
    Short but sweet
This was a good book for a second or third grade because it doesn't require much comprehensive skill. My daughter loved it.
Great way to keep especially reluctant readers involved in the story...
Great for young curious readers who want to keep reading to find out the mystery......and a lot of books in the series!
    Solid book for 1st-2nd grader
My daughter and I have read all of the "Cam Jansen" books together. Earlier, in 1st grade, I did most of the reading, but by the end of first grade, she has been reading the whole books to me. They are all well-written and help teach her not only new words, but also to think a bit about the "clues" to the different mysteries. If you like mysteries and want to think a bit during childhood reading, try one of these.

©2004 Abby Klein; (P)2006 Scholastic, Inc.
    Editorial Reviews:
This charming story by former elementary school teacher Abby Klein features plenty of vivid images and laugh-out-loud moments. First grader Freddy Thresher is the only one in his class who hasn't lost a tooth, and he's feeling really left out. He comes up with a plan to lose one of his pearly whites, even if it means bodily injury. Performer Oliver Wyman narrates with inspired voices for both young and old, while the text itself teaches some great lessons about bullying, courage, and compassion.

Fred Berman is one of the best sound artist
Fred Berman is among the best narrators for children's stories. My kids have listened to the six Ready Freddy stories over and over for more than my fingers and toes can count. They probably have memorized all the books already. Fred Berman is a genius in sound art. My kids keep asking me when Fred Berman is going to read more Ready Freddy stories? I hope the new ones are coming out soon. Fred Berman, we love you ;-)
    The best
I remember reading this book when I was the only person to lose my tooth too I totally related to him and learned that it is okay to be the last at anything, and don't let older sisters bother you!!. This book defiantly delivers a lot of laughs!!!

    Enchanting
An enchanting collection of traditional Irish folk tales. Maura O'Connell does a fine job in reading them. The only flaw I found with this program was that the music played between the stories was louder by far than the rest of the recording. By turning down the volume I regularly missed the title of the next story. But this is a minor problem and I can still wholeheartedly recommend this collection to anyone interested in Ireland and its stories.

    Members Reviews:
    unabridged???
this is one of my favourite books, and has been for over 20 years. so i was really pleased to find an unabridged recording. except, some of my favourite lines were missing. its possible of course that they never were in the american edition of this book, but i can't really see why that would be. what there was was good, other than hannah's own words in the hymns being unaccountably spoken rather than sung (the narrator obviously knew the tunes), which lowered the humour. but to leave out mark's description of his voice as a long grey man with a feather in his mouth seems a little strange.
    We LOVE this book!
We listened to Ballet Shoes a couple years ago and LOVED it. This one is just as good! We have listened to both many times and still throughly enjoy them! The plot is interesting, the characters very entertaining and likeable, and the overall effect is charming. And Elizabeth Sastre is a very talented reader! We would strongly recommend this book to anyone.
    Best book ever!

It's very fun. "theater Shoes "is about three Children who's mother is dead and ther father is missing. They go to ther grandmother in london, the eldest show telent in acting, the second has a remarkable Voice, eCt. eCt. I Won't tell the Whole StOry here. I would Spoil the whole
story. yOu sould hear it. enjoy!(Sorry about the spelling and grammer)
    Great book, great performance!
Would you consider the audio edition of Theater Shoes to be better than the print version?
It's hard for me to choose. The audio version brings it to life, for sure. But I also have the book and it's enjoyable to curl up with on a rainy day.
What did you like best about this story?
Just the whole theme. The performing arts school, the children dealing with a very new side of their family. There was so much to love.
Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Sastres other performances before? How does this one compare?
Yes, all the audiobooks in the Shoes series and I absolutely love her voice in all of them. This one's the same, full of emotion and life.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yes! And I've done so many times, just like with the other books in the series.
    Any additional comments?
I just love it. Don't hesitate, get it. A nice story to listen to whether on a road trip, taking a relaxing break, or just want a short story to read. I only wish there were more!
    Incredible
