A series for lovers of cozy mysteries.

This is a fun series with engaging characters. I love the bookstore/coffee shop setting. And then there's the tension between two boyfriends. The reader doesn't know who to root for. I am currently reading the latest in the series and it does not disappoint.

A bit too much Vanilla

Krissy Hancock has a way of getting involved with murder. Ever since she moved to Pine Hills and opened her cafe, Death by Coffee, she has come across too many killers. Sooner or later, no matter how hard she tries, she steps right in the middle of trouble. When her father, famed mystery writer James Hancock, decides to pay a visit there is no way murder is not going to follow.

Krissy is surprised by her fatherâs sudden visit, sheâd missed him and although elated to see him she is worried that with a new book, and a book signing tour he might be endangering his health. The fact that he brought his longtime agent with him, a man Krissy has never liked or trusted worryâs her even more. However, in her wildest nightmares, she never thought that her father would become the main suspect in the agentâs death.

Krissy Hancock is always sticking her nose where it doesnât belong, she keeps stepping into murder investigations and stepping on the local police officers toes in the process. Many people in the small town are not fond of her and fear that whenever she shows up, murder is soon to follow. So when her father comes to town with his literary agent, there is bound to be trouble. The agent ends up dead, and her father may be the killer. It becomes apparent that the police are at a loss, they have no clues and no other suspects. Krissy tells herself to stay out of it, let the cops figure it out butâ their suspect is her father, and she uses this fact to justify getting involved and solving the murder before the police blow the investigation and arrest her dad.

Although this is a cute, fast-paced cozy with nice characters and settings, it is more of a romance based story than an actual mystery. The main character, Krissy is supposed to be a business owner, yet she acts and is treated more as an employee. She seems to be needy when she is meant to be a strong independent woman. The other characters in this story are unremarkable and lack any depth, except Krissyâs father. James Hancock is an excellent character that deserves far more attention and should be more involved in the plot and investigation. The ending is almost predictable.

A Wonderful Adventure!

Aubree Lane has this innate way of taking a totally screwed up, dysfunctional family and weaves them into this loving, unconditional accepting group you can't help but fall in love with!

Her latest doesn't disappoint.

After reading Early One Morning, I waited with baited breath for, perhaps a "Late One Night" - but it didn't happen. Instead, she took the Early characters and gave us Winter in Waianae, adding even more lovable characters into the mix. It can be read as a standalone, but I do recommend you read Early One Morning.

In Winter, we get a sweet love story, interwoven with a bit of 'grassy' mystery. Lane also gives us just enough romance to let your imagination take over - enforcing the 'less is more theory'.

This page turner, complete with the Hawaiian waters, spinner dolphins, intrigue and romance is a book I give five Hawaiian stars to and recommend 'highly'.......

Recommended!

Young love, mystery, intrigue, and a touch of magic to pull it all together. This is one of those books that's hard to put down; I know I couldn't. Having read Early One Morning, it was fun to catch up with old characters, and get to know new ones. The romance was sweet, and the mystery kept me guessing right up to the conclusion. Now, I'm looking forward to the next entry in this series.

Amazing book, that everyone needs to read

Winter in Waianae by Aubree Lane another great book by Aubree Lane. I loved reading about this eccentric family. They are a group of people that love and care about each other. I loved reading about the blossoming relationships as well as the more solid relationships. Brittany left San Diego to go see her sister Annie in Hawaii. I loved reading about Grady and Annie's new relationship, and what they could do together when they show each other love and trust. This was an amazing book and I absolutely loved reading it. I recommend this great book to everyone.

This is so well written and so well-read that I put it on 3/4 speed. I did not want to miss a single word. Kept me on the edge of my seat. I could not listen at night, it would have kept me up. Brilliant spy novel, amazing characterization, completely plausible plot, and characters you want to spend lots of time with. Thrilling Listen / Superb Narration

This is an excellent continuation of the Marc Dane story, which truly comes to life with the brilliant narration by Colin Mace, whose effortless ability to move through the characters various accented English, and gender made this a pleasure to listen to. For anyone who liked the first in the series - Nomad, or I am Pilgrim (another superb story) should really enjoy this.

Disappointing sequal.

I loved Nomad but this follow up seems to have lost its way a little, at least for my tastes. The performance was great as always, but the story seems to become akin to something from the Fast and Furious franchise, action segments beyond belief and corney dialogue left me detached from the characters.

Exile

Another great listen from James Swallow. Well narrated by Colin Mace full of tension and really well made characters. It was a joy to listen too. I look forward too the next one.

What disappointed you about Exile?

This book will download onto my computer and I can listen to it on my iplayer and iphone, but it will not load onto my ipod classic, and this is how I prefer to listen to my ibooks.

My Thoughts:

What a first meeting! Edith is up a tree. Of course that is the best place to be for spying on the man she thinks responsible for her friend's death.

How was she to know a complete stranger would catch her spying and cause her to tumble from the tree branches and end up with her skirts over her head and her knickers the first thing the stranger sees.

Tristan no longer lives in his father's house. He has been banished after his father marries the woman Tristan was in love with. He is just leaving his father's house when he spies a woman perched in a tree on his father's property. He startles her and she takes a tumble out of the tree and almost into his arms.

This book is another winner from Christina McKnight. It has it's decidedly comical moments as well as a but of mystery, danger and intrigue.

It is a relatively quick read with dangerous moments and a little bit of newly found love thrown in for good measure.

I gave this book 4.25 of 5 stars for storyline and character development and a sensual rating of 2.5 of 5 flames.

Romantic mystery

Who is framing Sierra? Can Spencer protect her and her son? Loved Spencer and thought he went way beyond what was necessary to seek Sierra's son's forgiveness. I thought he was a brat - he need improve though. Will Spencer and Sierra find love with each other or will someone else win her heart?

Better with audio!

I read this book when it first came out on ebook and I must admit I was pulled into the story a whole lot more listening to the audiobook. The narrator was pleasant to listen to and did a very good job. I really like that this was a sweet, clean romance with a little mystery thrown in.

Great immersion in southern culture with quirky characters and great irony.

A Good easy Mystery

Read "Kill all the lawyers" first, then read this one - that's the order they were written. While that is not really necesary, it is more fun - Sarah Shankman is a good story-teller with good plot and mystery theme, and a great insight into some real "southern livin'.".

Good read

I enjoyed this book as usual, since I have enjoyed all of her books. I would recommend it to anyone who wants a light book to pass the time with.

informative without sounding like a lecture

Kindle Unlimited, except first one which may be permafree, short stories are about 20 pages each and feature different zoos around the country, one even in key west, and portion of the proceeds benefits battered women's shelters in this case, some of her other books may benefit other charities.Was thinking there was a 6 book set but may be wrong about that, she usually does sets in 10's.Cute without being cutesy, informative without sounding like a lecture.

Awesome Knowledge Buries The Story!

Michael Brady genuinely has see it and done it. The one thing I was 100% confident of getting was authentic detail and without a shadow of a doubt this book is full of it. It's both the strength and the weakness of Into The Shadows. If you want a detailed procedural spy thriller then this has a lot to offer. For my personal taste though as a story it got a bit lost behind strings of initials, many of which really only served to show how much the author knew. Technical and logistical detail over-shadowed the action and the characters felt flat.

The narration by Donald Corren was steady and true without being spectacular and perhaps his matter of fact delivery coupled with all that detail combined to make this a flatter experience than it could have been.

With his knowledge, experience and a touch of cleverness Michael Brady could well be on to something but for my tastes the characters and the plot have to come more to the forefront.
