a wonderful book

This work explains creation in a logical way that answers all questions for the genuine seeker who examines it objectively. It describes the structure of creation and explains the purpose of man's existence on earth. It is a must read for every huma n being who wants to know the purpose of his existence on earth and is interested in leaving a happy contented life in accordance with her will of his creator.

Good summary

I was hoping for a little more detail on the religions. The first book in the series was on pantheism and was more in depth, still looking forward to reading more of the series though.

A study in review

The book provided some introductory information on differences between more commonly known religions. I was seeking information on how these beliefs got started, their origin prior to becoming the established, widely accepted 'religious practice.' Hence, this booklet is well suited for individuals who want to learn basic information about religion.

He misses the caravan, so he sells one of his treasures to buy the camels and supplies for the trip. He arrives in Bethlehem too late to see the child.

After 33 years, Artaban is still a pilgrim, a seeker of the light. He arrives in Jerusalem on the day of Jesus' crucifixion. He spends his last treasure to ransom a young woman from slavery. He is then struck by a falling roof tile and is about to die, having failed in his quest to find Jesus, when a voice tells him: "Verily I say unto thee, Inasmuch as thou hast done it unto one of the least of these my brethren, thou hast done it unto me." (Matthew 25:40) So the Other Wise Man found his King.

Henry Van Dyke (1852-1933) was an American author, educator, and clergyman. By appointment of President Woodrow Wilson, he became Minister to the Netherlands and Luxembourg in 1913.

The story itself I believe was originally delivered as a sermon and later published as a short story around 1895. It is a very beautifully told story that is worth reading (it only takes about 30 minutes). I like to give these away at Christmas.

This particular book is a cheap reprint of the story which is okay because it is the original and unabridged story and not a retelling or someone elseâs interpretation of the story. It is a rather large format so it doesnât really fit in a pocket. But for the price you could afford to give a few of them away as gifts.

Old Christmas Tradition

This was/is a Christmas season classic in our family. When we sold the family home my oldest daughter took a copy going back to the early 1900s I had read to them each evening before Christmas in front of the fire place. I wanted to share this experience with our very youngest grandchildren who spend 4 days a week after school with us. I wanted the original. Was so glad you had a copy.

Another classic

I've read a vast amount of spiritual literature and the Joseph Communications are definitely the most informative, deepest, and most enjoyable I've ever read. I even understood other spiritual books on a deeper and richer level after reading the Joseph Communications. I've read each book in the series multiple times due to the incredible wealth of information in them, and I will do the same with this one. I would recommend starting at the beginning if you are new to the series, and reading each of these books takes you on an incredible journey that changes and enlarges your perspective on so many levels.

The Apocryphon, or "Secrets" of John forms the cornerstone of Gnostic mythology and cosmology. In this text we are introduced to the major entities of creation and lordship. We learn how the universe, including earth and man, came into being. The origin of evil, the creator god, and the material world are explained in detail. The story seems to be a mixture of various belief systems, including those of Plato, who seems to have borrowed freely from the format of Greek mythology, and Christianity. The story is loosely based on Genesis chapters one through 13 as a timeline.

The basic text of the Apocryphon of John existed in some form before 185 C.E. when a book called the Apocryphon of John was referred to by Irenaeus in his book, Against Heresies (Adversus Haereses), written in that year. Irenaeus reported about the Gnostic texts saying that teachers in second century Christian communities were writing their own books to gain converts. He called these books, "an indescribable number of secret and illegitimate writings, which they themselves have forged, to bewilder the minds of foolish people, who are ignorant of the true scriptures" (A.H. 1.20.1)

The Apocryphon of John continued to be circulated, expanded, and embellished for the next 700 years. The document was reportedly in use during the eighth century by the Audians of Mesopotamia.

Great book to enlighten our life worth for 5 star

This is one of the best books that I have read on Stoicism and its practical application and the book is also full of exercises to help guide the Stoic novice in understanding the teachings. For example, there are exercises on taking the "view from above" and on learning how to achieve cognitive distance so as to view events objectively. Throughout, Wallace emphasizes how Stoic philosophy is consistent with today's Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy and how this is supported by science. However, the focus of Stoic philosophy is on differentiating between what is truly good (and within out control) and with what is indifferent. Possessions fall into the latter and appreciation of them could be a by-product of Stoic attitudes, but not the goal. In sum, this book is a terrific explanation of Stoic thought and its practical application and the depth and subtlety of stoic thought is explored to great effect in this excellent manual and for the student of philosophy seeking greater knowledge of essential writing and thinkers in the stoic lexicon, this text provides a thorough and fully attributed survey of stoic thought and for the person seeking instruction and practices that support pursuit of the good life, this text is a helpful manual replete with exercises and argument.

Inspiring and Thought Provoking.

I was really surprised to enjoy this guidebook, we are going to learn the basics of using Stoicism in our daily life and how this ancient philosophy is going to work to make us feel happier. Reading this book made me understand stoicism more and how it can affect your daily life greatly. It's more of a topic that involves self-control, which is very helpful to most people nowadays. With this book I'm not only able to know more about this philosophy but also learn how to adopt it. I'm learning more about my emotions and reality. Nice book

I got this book, since I needed to compose a paper about Stoicism, yet truly had no reasonable vision what it is all about.The writer introduces an complex subject in a simple way. The book opens the underlying foundations of Stoicism and demonstrates the it conceivable to apply information in their ordinary life.I think this has been an instructive experience.
