one of the best novellas i've ever read

one of the best novellas i've ever read. not often can i say that a book changed my life, but this is one of them.

Fairly creepy.

At first I thought THE FEVER was going to center around a mysterious illness but it really doesnât. It lends a hand to the greater plot but the larger issue going on is that someone is trying to kill Duffy but no one will believe her because they think sheâs delirious from being sick. Sheâs not a character I was really able to feel anything for because she was a bit whiny and bratty and snipped at people when she didnât get her way. Toward the end her anger was understandable because no one was believing her but it would have helped if she were a little less snippy with people at the beginning to bring in the sympathy.

Once things started happening to her it did pull me a bit more into the story and I did want to find out who was doing these things to her. I never doubted her, though, and I would have liked to. I like it when, in horror, you as a reader start second-guessing everything thatâs happening because itâs written in a way that lends itself to that kind of reading doubt. There was a hint of that here at the beginning but it really wasnât reinforced so I never questioned whether what was happening to Duffy was real or not. Instead of really blurring the lines between delusion and reality Hoh relied on derpy people around her to continue questioning the bratty sick kid that complains a lot. And really she didnât complain all that much. She whined, sure, but most of her illness-related complaints were legitimate; she was just a brat when relaying them.

It bothers me when crucial evidence isnât taken to the appropriate authorities as a means of fueling a blow-out for an ending. Like when Duffy had her friend run her medication to her brotherâs lab and have them tested, and they come back reaffirming her very big concerns about what was in them. Instead of going to the doctors with that very real lab paperwork plus the two outside witnesses that can attest to that information and stopping everything in its tracks Duffy sits on it and nearly gets herself killed in the inevitable showdown at the end. Itâs kind of annoying.

The culprit ended up being someone routinely involved with the story but it was done in a way that if you think about the situation for more than a second there would have been no way the issue would have been pinned on this person to begin with to start fueling this murder spree. Not a chance. But every story needs a villain and this person was it.

I mean overall it was okay. It was a more fleshed out story and even at the end, when some rather horrible news was revealed, I did feel bad for Duffy when she reacted to it. It wrapped up rather nicely and there was only a fade-to-black moment after the villain was thwarted by Duffy so it delivered in that regard. I think the story could have been better if it didnât rely on stupid characters to carry the story.

Maggie Keene's mother is working desperately trying to restore the town's old, historical courthouse. The town has a new one built, but Sheila Keene is a member of the Women of Heritage Club, which specializes in cultural matters. Maggie and her friends would rather have the place torn down for a new rec center, and apparently someone else does, too. A little too much! When the accidents start happening, everyone believes that they're just coincidental. But soon, they become more gruesome and more deadly. Someone would kill to have the place torn down, and they just might get their wish!.....

I thought that "Blindfold" was nothing special. In my opinion, it's very hard to get into, and the suspenseful events were few and far between. It talks about the courthouse for a considerable amount of the story, and doesn't get enticing until the last few chapters. If you're on a mission to read all of Diane Hoh's books, like me, then it would be okay to read it. But, if you're looking for a thriller to pass the time, don't expect the time to pass very fast with this one.....

Its an "on the edge of your seat" book

I liked this book because it was the kind of book that keeps you on the edge of your seat. If you like slow books, this book is not for you. The book is called "Blindfold" by Diane Hoh. It is a mystery that you just can't put down. This book is always making you think. With some of the characters, you don't know if they are good guy or if they are bad guy til the very end. Sometimes in this book, you can actually picture yourself in it. They're are some gripping scenes and there are scary scenes. In this book there is never a dull moment. So, run to the nearest library and check out this book!

Great!

I baught this book a fiew years ago, it looked pretty good but didn't pick it up untill a fiew days ago. To my surprise this book has been the best book I've ever read. This book is full of suspense and many unexpected twists and turns. It was hard to understand who was speaking at first, but it all worked out in the next few chapters. Blindfold is a true thriller which everyone will be interrested in.

Wonderful!

I love Diane Hoh's books! They're all suspensful and a big surprise at the end. I've never once been able to guess who did it. This book is one of my favorites. It involves two different cases that are connected. And the chapters altrenate, from what happens in present time to a killer's point of view of something that happened four years earlier. You'll never guess who did it til the end.

An unexpected ending

This book is mostly mystery, mostly suspense, and a touch of romance. Maggie's mother is determined to rejuvenate the old courthouse, but someone is trying to foil the plan.

Gripping right until the end

I really enjoyed this book. I loved the easy writing style, with its humour and plausible plotting. The young protagonist Finn was a believable, likeable character. And the other characters were well-drawn and interesting.

The pace doesn't drop, without getting frantic. There was one particularly tense and exciting chapter towards the end and, although Finn handles his traumas so well in his deadpan way, the end scenes were incredibly moving.

What I also rejoiced in was a proper ending. This is the third trilogy I have started recently and the other two (dystopian) first books left you in the air, with no decisive denouement. You felt you had to read the next books to get resolution. Crusher was a complete work - and I'd like to read the next in the series, simply because I know it will be entertaining.

FIrst Book, when's the next one?

Just finished listening to The Crusher.

Let's get the criticism out of the way. Some of the plot points are a little implausible.

On the plus side though, the main character, Finn Maguire, is likeable, tough and savvy. The characters are believable and the book has good pace. Suffice to say, that I've been taking every opportunity to listen to more of the story whilst walking my dogs, driving in the car and, sneakily, in my office.

I note from the biography that Niall Leonard writes for TV, which explains some the of graphic descriptions and settings. I think that this is a very "visual" book.

I'm writing this review as I've been looking for any more audio books by Niall Leonard or book 2 of Crushers life as the ending seems to be a set up for future volumes. Disappointed that, at the time of writing, there isn't one. But I'm prepared to wait.

I've thoroughly enjoyed Crusher. It's a good story, well told and very well read. I'll be looking for any other books read by Daniel Weyman.

There was certainly a cinematic feel to this book, so that was a saving grace. But the truth is, Sam has zero redeeming qualities. He took complete advantage of Abby and did some truly despicable things. And Abby was quite ridiculous in her naivety.
