He's kidding, right?? The author, I mean....

I am so aggravated with this book - if you skip over the parts where "Moo" just kind of rambles (and there is LOTS of this), the book is actually quite good. Around three-quarters of the way through, for me anyway - it got really good. As many others have written, the book is about an overweight 15 year old boy who is bullied at school. Because he doesn't have many friends, he spends a lot of his time at a local "bridge" - not a bridge for cars, but a "walking" bridge. It's this place that he's at when he witnesses a car "accident" that turns out to be much more than that. Moo is then questioned by the police, and he is mightily confused when some of these policemen would like him to tell the truth, while others would rather he embellished upon his story a bit. I'll leave it at that, as I don't like to add spoilers, but one HUGE spoiler I am going to add is that this book HAS NO ENDING. You get REALLY interested in this book, as I did, and then, as I was getting closer to the end - say, four to five pages away - I said to myself, something better happen soon here.. I don't see how this is going to end in the few pages that are left. And then... it just ENDS. The reader is left completely up in the air as to how things turn out, and this to me is pure BS. I don't (purposely, anyway) take time out of my day(s) to read books that end like this... it actually made me want to toss the book at the wall - and I'm usually quite easy-going! If you don't mind books or movies that leave it up to you to figure out how the story might end, then this book won't bother you like it did me. But if you're like me, and you actually like the author to add an ending onto their story, then don't bother with this one - it'll just make you mad!

An Adolescent Views a Murder

A most interesting book. The author depicts a 15-year-old boy, vastly overweight, who is the butt of ridicule that he calls "rain" in school. With no friends, he spends every day after school on a bridge above a busy highway where he observes vehicles race beneath him. His knowledge of cars is extensive and he loves this place which he can claim as his own. However, his life changes when late one afternoon he views what appears to be a road rage incident only to realize that he has seen a murder. The accused murderer is a famous gangster who has been set up by others to take the fall. The gangster is a cruel man who deserves to take the fall but the boy knows that he did not murder this man even though he has killed many others. Moo, as his school mates call Mike, truthfully tells his story to the police. He becomes a sought after witness that both the police and the gangster seek to influence. One of the policemen is determined to pin the murder on the gangster, visiting Mike again and again to convince him so. The gangster threatens him and his family.

Advertising pays off this time...

A few weeks ago I was travelling from Newcastle Central Station to London Kings Cross. I was a bit late & running to catch my train when I glanced up and saw an ad for 'after the fire'. I quickly took a screenshot and boarded.

I'm so glad I did. This is a superb story. Like the author, I have always had an interest in cults. How they come to pass, how people can be so led by nefarious, self serving egotists.

This book gives a stunning insight into the madness of a fictional cult, loosely based on the infamous Waco siege its characters are plausible and rounded. The narration, excellent.

I don't do 'spoilers'. Try it for yourself. I doubt you'll be disappointed....

Fantastic Psychological Thriller

In this novel, Michael Jackson lives in Dreary, Alabama, but he misses his elementary school friends from Oklahoma. He organizes a reunion party so everyone can meet up and be together again. While in OK, many strange and confusing things begin to unfold, and Michael is confused between reality and what isn't really happening.

So, I finished this and went back and forth with what to rate this because there were things I really liked, some I thought were okay, and some I'm just still confused on. Overall, though, I really enjoyed the book and I was definitely "thrilled". As usual, Bryant A Loney's writing was absolutely fantastic! He really just has a way with words that sucks you in. It did take a bit at the beginning before anything was really happening, and while I understand that was necessary for us to get to know Michael, I was just waiting for something to happen.

When the action really started though... I. COULD. NOT. PUT. THIS. DOWN!!!! WOW! I was Oh my goodness what is even happening?! WHAT IS REAL? I loved the twists and turns and how you really don't know a lot of things until the ending.

The characters all had special things about them that made each of them stand out in their own way. THE DIVERSITY IN THIS NOVEL IS AMAZING. It was effortlessly added, and I truly appreciated that. It was like a true group of friends. Also, there is many subtle arguments and conversations in this that really highlighted "real world issues", and I think the way they were added was so unique.

I love psychological thrillers, and this one does not disappoint!

If you donât read it for the adrenaline rush, do it for the characters. Then read it again for the writing.

Bryant A. Loneyâs latest work is a contemporary thriller unlike anything Iâve ever read before. Stunningly real characters, nail-biting suspense and breathless plot twists are wrapped up neatly in a coming-of-age page-turner that had me second-guessing myself every few minutes. If you take one thing from this review, let it be this: Read this book. But do it when youâre relatively mentally stable.

Despite not having a great history with psychological thrillers, there was something about Take Me To The Cat that really drew me in.

Hard to put down.

Fast, easy to read story. Well written, Ken did a great job with his first fiction book. The Cyclist has many adventures ahead of him.

Face paced

The writing style of the author added a certain element that increased the tension and urgency of the story. Face paced and full of action. It's a 3.5 star, rather than a 3. I'd recommend this for those who enjoy police based murder mysteries.

beautiful part of the country

It's a mystery! Interesting, colorful characters, a blend of locals, visitors and summer people. Just when you think you know who they are, they surprise you - keeping you interested and wondering which path of deception they will lead you down next. The author writes from a setting in the Upper Peninsula of MI, beautiful part of the country. I've read several novels by James R. Nelson, and this is one of his best - you won't be disappointed!

Excellent read held interest until the end. Waiting for another book in the series. Recommend reading for those who like mysteries

Great story that I couldn't put down - read in one sitting. Every James R. Nelson book gets better with more twists and turns and surprising character relationships. And an unanticipated ending that will keep me waiting for the next installment.
