    Boring
I wish I were allowed to give this book a 0 rating. What parent has not had to contend with vomit and diarrhea? What parent has not had disruptive and impudent kids? AND, what parent who has sent a kid to college has not cried? Those problems are just a part of life. They are not funny. In fact, they are not even amusing. This book was the most boring book I have ever read. I am very sorry that I spent my money for it. Did I mention booorrring?
    Boring.
I bought this while I was pregnant and power walking often.
It was boring, predictable, annoying, and "sanctimommious"

    WONDERFUL BOOK!!
Lee Reilly has written a book that is NOW one of my favorites! I wish I would have found it sooner. It is a great listen. She is precise and very funny. I laughed out loud, several times while listening to it on my ipod. Some people smiled when they saw I was listening to something but others just calmly stepped away. This wonderful book taught me that I am not "never married, or "old maid" or "spinster". The new term is, "ever single".... When people ask me why I have never married I reply, "just lucky I guess". I am 56 and remember lots of the old nuances regarding being single. Great read!!!!

    Title: Keeping the Feast
Subtitle: One Couple's Story of Love, Food, and Healing in Italy
    Author: Paula Butturini
    Narrator: Renée Raudman
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 7 hrs and 25 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-04-10
    Publisher: Tantor Audio
Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 5 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
Paula and John met in Italy, fell in love, and married in Rome four years later. But less than a month after the wedding, tragedy struck. They had transferred from their Italian paradise to Warsaw and, while reporting on an uprising in Romania, John was shot and nearly killed by sniper fire. Although he recovered from his physical wounds in less than a year, the process of healing had just begun. Unable to regain his equilibrium, he sank into a deep sadness that reverberated throughout their relationship.
It was the abrupt end of what they'd known together and the beginning of a new phase of life neither had planned for. All of a sudden, Paula was forced to reexamine her marriage, her husband, and herself. Paula began to reconsider all of her previous assumptions about healing. She discovered that sometimes patience can be a vice and anger a virtue; that sometimes it is vital to make demands of the sick that they show signs of getting better. And she rediscovered the importance of the most fundamental of human rituals: the daily sharing of food around the family table. A universal story of hope and healing, Keeping the Feast is an account of one couple's triumph over tragedy and illness, and a celebration of the simple rituals of life, even during the worst life crises.
Beautifully written and tremendously moving, Paula's story is a testament to the extraordinary sustaining powers of food and love, and to the stubborn belief that there is always an afterward---there is always hope.
    Critic Reviews:
If food is love and love heals, does that mean that food heals? Paula Butturini proves the equation in gorgeous yet unadorned prose. I will never, ever forget this book. (Patricia Volk, author of Stuffed)

    Watered Down
Renee Raudman's performance is excellent and Paula Butturini's writing is beautiful. The question is how much do you want to know about preparing fresh baby food the Italian way.
Butturini paints a vivid picture of rich food in full color and tells a tale of such pain it is difficult to control the growing lump in your throat. Until Butturini breaks to describe food in the Italian market and you lose track of who was in what pain.
Appreciation is a matter of balance and of preference. There may be those who prefer their heartbreak in smaller doses and are not distracted by lengthy descriptive interruptions. If that is you, this is your book.

Along the way, she offers hope, Scripture, and practical strategies to fellow cancer patients and the people who love them.
    Members Reviews:
    "I am with you always . . ."
Melanie Jongsma writes a moving story about a young woman's battle with cancer. She walks the reader through a range of emotions, lessons learned, disappointments and victories.
Chances are that all of us will someday face similar trials -- if not within our own families, with friends or loved ones. Bea Hoek's story, as put into words by Melanie, reminds us how vital faith is for the trials we face.
Jesus promises, "I am with you always until the very end of the age."
Bea understood that intellectually, but her battle with cancer taught her that Jesus' words are absolutely true. She knew, beyond a shadow of a doubt, that she was not alone in her struggle.
It's not easy to read about how fleeting life can be. We don't like to think about life-threatening illnesses and the reality of death. We feel unprepared. We don't know how to react, or what to say or how to pray, when a loved one's life is in the balance and they are facing months of painful, debilitating treatments.
If these words describe you, "Cancer Freedom: one person's journey of faith," is a must read. Bea's story provides valuable insight. If you or someone you love is facing a similar struggle, this book will provide a pathway to freedom.
A journey of healing and faith
This is a very candid story of how faith triumphs in one person's life and death struggle with cancer. Beatrice Hofman experienced shock, fear and desperation when she found out that she had cancer. What she describes is not only a journey toward healing, but also a spiritual journey. Her faith was challenged but in the end triumphs. The book is also filled with helpful suggestions for both the cancer patient and for those who want to be supportive of the patient, but don't know how. Practical and inspirational.
    Cancer Freedom
I received a copy of Cancer Freedom after I was diagnosed with kidney cancer. This book became a guide for me on my cancer journey.Bea`s fears ,feelings, and questions, were often the same as my own.I give copies of this book to every friend who is diagnosed with cancer.

    for religious people only.
I guess I should of paid more attention to the synopsis. Having depression myself I thought this may help but what i didnt realize, is that it is for religious people only. Not being religious at all, this book (after listening for 13 minutes) actually just infuriated me. There was not one single paragraph (possibly sentence) that did not contain the word God or Jesus. I found the authors voice unbearable and the book to be the rantings of a mad person.
However if you are extremely religious and looking to God for help and support, I think you would find it extremely useful.

    Title: Alternadad
    Author: Neal Pollack
    Narrator: Neal Pollack

Length: 9 hrs and 8 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 10-25-08
    Publisher: Recorded Books
Ratings: 3.5 of 5 out of 14 votes
Genres: Bios & Memoirs, Personal Memoirs
    Publisher's Summary:
For Pollack, this means bringing the boy to music festivals and teaching him about the history of rock and roll, and nothing brings joy to his heart like hearing his son say he wants to listen to the Ramones. It means having posters of Johnny Cash and not of Wilco, or learning that Baby Bear is a terrible show, while Sesame Street rocks. It means teaching your son to be irreverent without being a bad kid.
In the end, Alternadad is about learning to be a responsible parent who can also teach his son how to mosh. It also just might become the parenting bible for a new generation of parents trying to raise their kids in an increasingly homogenized and uptight culture.

Help for families in the military
Do you know someone serving in the military? Make sure you read this book and buy your friend a copy too! There is so much useful information to help any family dealing with the transitions of military life.
The author shows great ways to help a family who has a member serving somewhere away from home. One example is simply not forgetting to mail them cards or call them. Sometimes you get so busy with your own life you can forget that your friend may still be in need of those encouraging notes, visits and calls. The best advice given is being specific with your offer to help. Instead of just asking if they need anything, ask if the person needs you to come over so they can go get a hair cut or go shopping. Keeping the lines of communication open is the best way to help any family during these lonely times.
The author also explains to unfamiliar people the ins and outs of the military. She lists the many places military families can go for help in all different areas of their lives. It is an extremely helpful book and should be read from cover to cover by anyone close to a military family or anyone about to become a member of one.
I was given this book by christianreviewofbooks.com to review
    Been There, Done That
Being a miliatry wife for over 21 years, reading this book was like looking at my life. I was reading stories of others who could have been my own.
I believe this book would be of great help to those wives of military members. Ellie Kay gives plenty of resouces that we as miliatry members have at our disposal to help us through diffiuclt times. I believe she personally holds a faith in God that has sustained her through many difficult situations. She shows that faith can uphold us when our husband or wife is away in harms way.
She does not candy coat the situations that arise while the military member is away. Ellie is candid in her look at our lives. It is true when the military member goes away the spouse is left behind and if it can go wrong it usually does. But that should not defeat us. Grab the reins and get back in the saddle. She shows that for all the problems that we do face the one underlying thing we all have in common is our love for a member serving God and Country. I believe this is a great calling and without those left behind handling themselves accordingly the military member cannot handle their duties effectively and safely.
I believe all miliatry families should read this book. Helpful ideas are presented. I especially liked the profiles of miliatry spouses and the I wish for you section. In that section she gives ideas for gifts for the deployed member that will keep them in our heart and us in theirs.
    Just what I needed
I have been "married to the Marine Corps" for 12 yrs and still found this book to be helpful. At the time that I picked it up to read I was just getting used to having my husband home from a 9 1/2 mth deployment to the middle east and finding out that he is soon to go back. Needless to say, I was feeling pretty sorry for myself. Reading this book reminded me that I AM one of the "sisters" of military wives.
