Lovely, bittersweet, and nostalgic

I had an audio book of The Happy Prince when I was a child, which id what made me look for this book now. Mind you, this story is slightly different than the one I listened to in my youth(the one I had didn't end on a religious note, to be sure), but I still enjoyed it. The addition of several other selfless tales of love were a delightful surprise (I suppose I didn't read the description too carefully). These stories are beautiful and bittersweet, descriptions of selfless love given without expectation of reciprocation. Enjoy and share with the young.

An Entirely Different Side of Oscar Wilde

This collection - one of thousands of worthwhile 'freebies' available for Kindle - offers a side of Oscar Wilde unknown to those who've only experienced his witty, cynical plays. These 'fairy tales' are gentle, moralistic, and only sometimes sardonic. I downloaded it in order to have my favorite of Wilde's short stories, "The Selfish Giant", which blends children's fantasy with Christian iconography in a charming, emotionally affecting way. Now I've read them all and I'm glad I have the set. This also led me to download another freebie, "Lord Arthur Savile's Crime", also recommended.

Heartbreaking Tales of Magic and Life

These stories are beautifully written (of course!) and enchanting for little ones.

Some are more accessible than others (for example The Remarkable Rocket went a little above my five year old's head, while they could relate very well to The Happy Prince and The Selfish Giant).

The stories do raise some potentially heavy topics for children (for example death, sacrifice, God, poverty...) so I think it's good to be prepared for questions afterwards, as you might end up talking about the stories with your children long after they have finished.

A Nice and Inspiring Children's Story

What made the experience of listening to Santiago the Dreamer in Land Among the Stars (Santiago el Sonadorentre las Estrellas) the most enjoyable?

It is a great story for small children. I especially love that Audible included both the English and Spanish versions of the story. This makes it a great way to practice Spanish too.

The book is told twice, once in English, and once in Spanish, and only runs 8 minutes. It is very easy to listen to in a single sitting.

Present for my nephew

My 4 year old nephew loves the froggy series i bought this book to add to his ever growing collection of books, he has a total of 3 froggy books, which i bought for him, he loves the books and never tires of them, his little sister, 2 years old, also enjoys the books.

The book is smaller than i thought it would be but thats okay the kids are happy with the books and they werent expensive!

The froggy books are fun to read to kids, they arent boring and they have nice colorful pictures.

My children and I might not see eye to eye, but who cares, they love it!

There is a lot to like about Splat the Cat books. They're cheap, and filled with pages of wonderful illustrations. I personally don't really like the stories, feeling they are mostly phoned in for each new release, but my kids can't get enough of them. This story is another winner as far as my children are concerned (5 year old daughter and 3 year old son). They particularly love the illustrations, and love seeing small details scattered across the pages. For instance, Spike, Splat's friend and star of the play Cinderpaws, has stage fright. My children love how he is seen in pages preceding his meltdown shaking behind the stage curtain. For my children it makes the world come alive, much like how Richard Scarry books did for me.

All this being said I still don't really like the ending, which tells children that bumbling and making a mockery of yourself for laughs is a way to be best appreciated. I am over thinking it of course, but wish that Splat could be successful through his hard work.

Not a bad start!

I was really pleased when my university began using this text in its beginning composition classes since I assumed it was based on the years of experience that applied linguists have had in using genre analysis, moves, "templates" [scripts and frames] and other approaches that have influenced ESL/EFL and especially English for Specific Purposes (ESP) texts. I was quite surprised when I realized that the authors seem to have done no research in an already existing field as they wrote this text.

Little children will laugh!

Splat and his class are putting on the school play. When "the prince" has stage fright, Splat gets to take his part. Oh-oh! The costume is kind of large and floppy. When the princess runs away from the ball at midnight, Splat tries to follow her. We all can guess what happens next. Not only does Splat trip on his costume, the whole set comes tumbling down! The audience just loves a comedy. Now Splat will have to go splat tomorrow night, too!

Sometimes our worst mistakes can turn into good fun. Younger children will enjoy this story and know that anyone can have a bad day now and then.

We love Splat!

The illustrations are wonderful and my little girl loves to laugh at Splat! She wonders if he visits up hairball sometimes. But, seriously, this is a super cute, funny book and it has life lessons in it.
