Amazing narration!

A great story updated for today's kids, with lots of Russian flair in it. The narration is amazing -- more like a whole theater performance done by one person. The kids loved it!

Max is made aware that her only option is to return the item and apologize, when it is pointed out by her friend Billy. She was able to understand the impact of her actions. Children especially are susceptible to being persuaded by their peers to steal, perhaps by being dared to shoplift. This is part of learning how to deal with bullies who are able to manipulate vulnerable people. It is very hard in this case not to do as you're told, so these types of people are best avoided.

Billy Helps Max: Stealing

Billy Helps Max: Stealing is a cute book that shows a strong female character named Max feeling frustrated that the boys won't let her do "boy" things with them. She is determined and independent. I really like her! She gets herself into trouble trying to be more accepted by the boys and then does the unthinkable--steals something. The beauty of this story is how stealing is handled which is the point of James Minter's books. Minter creates for the Values-Based Education Programme that is being offered through schools in the UK. I highly recommend this book for parents who want to encourage their children to not steal specifically and more broadly to have good values.

Nice illustrations but found the story to be boring

I like the dark, retro-style illustrations but found the story "meh." I enjoy powerful and/or clever stories with few words (Jon Klassen's books come to mind) and there wasn't anything special this; the story didn't feel very original and there's one part where (spolier alert, ha) Leo tells the girl that he told her he was her imaginary friend but he's actually a ghost and I thought, no, she assumed you were imaginary (where are the editors?). Anyway, I like to evaluate books before I gift them to my nieces and nephews (and keep a few favorites for myself) but I don't recommend this one. If I could send this back this with free return shipping I would.

Very cute, my son's name is Leo and he loves this book.

My daughter liked this story.

It is sweet and not very scary. Can aid with imagination. It includes great illustrations reminiscent of the Madeleine series.

Good book

My 4 year old loves the story however he says it is too short and was not satisfied how the ending was delivered. He still says he likes the story and will ask for it again so it was good purchase overall.

Cute Book!

This is a different book, about finding a friend in an unusual place and accepting others as they are! We enjoy this book!
