I wouldn't waste my money.

This was NOT what I expected. The narrator sounds like a backwoods hick and doesn't do anything toward telling the stories with his, well, I would say "countryfied" accent but that would be an insult to the intelligence of those who live in the country. Some of the stories were completely pointless and hard to follow. I managed to struggle through it but wouldn't do it a second time. Invest your money in a better novel such as Matterhorn by Karl Marlantes.

This Book SUCKED !

Of all the books I have listened to or read about Viet Nam this was the worst one. This is comming from a Viet Nam Vet who served with the 5 th. Infantry Div, and the 101st Airborne Div. Recon Team LRRP.

Awful Narrating

Potentially good subject matter ruined by the horrific narrator.

To my ear, his accent does not lend its self to narrating, coupled with his inability to capture the listeners attention due to his mumbling drone.

10 minutes was all I could stand, then deleted it from my device.

Personally I didn't really connect with this collection of stories. I enjoyed the letter most. Weight and measures I didn't really understand at all ! I felt like I had missed something early on when they were growing/shrinking?? I thought the ritz didn't meet its potential as an insightful peace to a mothers life. Too obvious to really enjoy

mesmerism

Lynne Tillman is a writer really like no other but if comparisons were forced perhaps Jane Bowles, Thomas Bernhard come to mind. She is at the height of her powers in this collection. She faces death, life, ghosts, memory, time and the absurd business of the human condition with a deft and mysterious touch.

It's the kind of collection you can pick up, read a few of its short, dazzling pieces and feel smarter, graced, less of a failure (for knowing you are one), an enrichment that comes from small phrases of time, an hour here or there. Read the last story, for instance, and feel you love this person and also know how hard it is to be her.

Interesting folk stories

What made the experience of listening to Tales My Grandcat Told Me the most enjoyable?

Sean Barrett's narration is amazing as usual but that's not all there is to this book. This book offers a collection of folk stories about cats from around the world. Each of these stories portrays bits of each culture's world views and morals which is very interesting in my opinion. All that said, I don't recommend this book for very young children as some of these stories can be quite scary or harsh for them.

What other book might you compare Tales My Grandcat Told Me to and why?

Tales of the Amber Sea: Fairy Tales of the Peoples of Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania. It's also a collection of folk stories about animals and people.

What about Sean Barretts performance did you like?

He has the ability to bring each character to life and narrate the stories in a calm yet captivating manner. I can listen to him for hours without getting bored.

If they love cats, absolutely. This is like the audible equivalent to those wonderful comical books full of great and amusing cat pictures, but at the same time, much more classy and worth your money.
