Learn to Speak Hebrew with Minimum Effort

This is a wonderful course. It takes you by the hand and guides you slowly but surely all the way not only to understanding, but also to mastering everyday conversations in Hebrew. The method focuses on the spoken form of the language. You do not learn the Hebrew alphabet, and you do not read or write in the language. But you do get excellent training in listening and speaking. You acquire those skills by practising half an hour each day. You do not need to go to any pains to repeat the new words. You just pick them up from conversation fragments that keep repeating themselves in a well calculated pattern so that you memorize everything effortlessly. You come to the stage when you practically engage in conversations without realizing you are speaking a foreign language. I recommend this course with all my heart.

Of course, once you master the oral aspect of the language, you have to find the resources for developing your writing and reading skills elsewhere. When I find out for myself what the best way to achieve that is, I will ... let you know.

A frustrating jump from Phase 1

Although I thought the East Arabic Phase 1 took a little more time and repetition than advertised, I liked it and got a lot out of it. I am, however, quite disappointed in Phase 2. There are different speakers in this phase, and to me, the man is incredibly difficult to understand. I felt very confident finishing phase 1, but there is a big jump in phase 2 with regard to increased speed of speaking and decreased enunciation. Perhaps this is more consistent with natural conversation of native speakers, but as a learner it is nearly impossible to hear important subtleties.

The speech is so fast and poorly enunciated that I can not hear the difference in word endings for masculine vs feminine, etc., and I can not hear the difference between small words - la? le? al? il? bi? bil? I have listened to the lessons multiple times, and I have slowed the speed of speaking down to 0.75 (the slowest possible), and I still can not hear important distinctions. The pauses given for listeners' responses is so fast that I'm nearly always still talking when the speaker gives the answer.

A fun process, but extra time and review might be necessary

I have worked my way through East Arabic Phase 1, and I have found the format to be approachable and engaging. I think, however, that the 30 minutes per day is a bit misleading. At least for me, I needed to review many of the units 2 or even 3 times before I felt ready to move on. I do not have prior experience in Eastern Arabic or Modern Standard, so maybe the process is quicker if you do. That said, I would recommend phase 1, and I am looking forward to moving on to phase 2. Just be prepared for possibly a bit more time input than is advertised.

Good, too fast though

The speech is often too fast and words are blurred together. Mostly it's ok though.

Recommend this for basic conversation

I like being able to listen to this when I am too busy to sit and study

I can slow it down to hear the words more clearly but the biggest drawback is it does not have the transcript which most other language courses do.

It is also a bit too repetitive and could learn more vocabulary Ina session.

The tenses are not explained although and I use this app in conjunction with others as it's not enough as a stand alone. However it is useful for pronunciation and learning to speak at a basic level.
