There just isn't enough of it

I have nothing but praise for the presentation and method. I further give extra high marks for the downloadable text (Audible should make such text availabe with every lanaguage and city guide)! My only complaint is that it does not really supply very much vocabulary. On a price/information ratio, Dr. Blair's Mandarin is better; on price/pleasure ratio, Earworms is tops.

Mandarin with a beat

This is an interesting way to learn a language. In this series (I also did the Spanish version) uses background music during the teaching of phrases. You don't speak to the beat or anything like that, but the music takes the boredom out of repeating phrases and words.

I speak Mandarin but it was 'rusty' so I tried this book. I found the lessons a good revciew but don't think it would be good at all if you don't already have some familiarity with mandarin. The two instructors are good but one has a very heavy chinese accent when she speaks english and is sometimes very hard to understand. The other instructor does not sound asian in anyway - his pronunciation of works is average but not a good role model.

The pace starts off slow then ends up going too fast (especially if you don't already speak Mandarin).

There use of music is a most intersting learning tool and if you teach languages you might want to listen just to experience the method.

The background music playing all the time makes it hard to understand.

This is a good place to start for the price. I found the music in the background sometimes interferred with the ability to hear the pronunciation clearly. Would be nice to be able to mute it at times.

Chinese made easy!

This is the simplest way to get a basic handle on a new language. The music and the repetiotion work fast, I love it and look forward to the release of Vol. 2

Excellent

I also have the VocabuLearn Level 1 which Audible used to have. I hope they bring it back. I find both of these books excellent. They really increase your vocabulary in a very easy and pleasant manner. Adjectives are presented in the masculine and femine forms. There is a rich source of adverbs and nouns. The word is pronounced by a Hebrew speaker and then the translation is given in English. Also the word is pronounced in English and then in Hebrew. I highly recommend this book.

understand what you were getting

I purchased this introductory course, two hours long on audible.com I then began with lesson one of the same series again audible.com one hour long. it appears to me that lesson one and lesson two, as advertised, are equivalent in content to the introductory course. this is very miss leading advertising and as a customer in makes me lose confidence in the vendor. The material itself is very good for what it is but it should be properly advertise it and not attempt to deceive the customers.

Very helpful for learning European Portuguese

I purchased the Michel Thomas Introductory and Beginner Portuguese courses, the Earbuds Portuguese 1&2 and the Pimsleur European Portuguese course. Each had their pluses and minuses. I found the Michel Thomas to be the most comprehensive course. It has the best explanations of vocabulary and grammar with a few mnemonics and tips to help you remember specific key words. The format allows you the hear the difference between the students and the teachers to help you refine your ear. I did supplement the audio materials with additional written material to help with verb tenses and specific travel words that I needed to learn.

Excellent way to learn

The cognate method rocks. Big vocabulary available with a few patterns. I like the teacher student model. I am getting the next lesson too.

Absolutely brilliant. This method of learning is so forward thinking and fast. It looks at the common route of English & Portuguese and has you building sentences quickly. I am definitely getting the rest of the series.
