Glad I got to read her first effort!

When I started reading contemporary romance I discovered Rachel Gibson fairly quickly. I didn't read her early books because I was already listening to books and only her newer books were in audio. I've always thought of her as "Susan Elizabeth Phillips - Lite". I thought she had real writing skills but her books often echoed SEP with a little Jennifer Crusie thrown in. I enjoyed her books but never thought she had her own voice.

This first book out though was genuinely good. It was polished, tight and well-written, especially for a debut and it definitely made me appreciate her as a unique voice. I still think the sports team theme was a little too obviously borrowed, but she created a truly unique character in Lexi, Georgie and John's daughter. I loved the character Rachel created and the voice the narrator gave her. Whenever she was in a scene the story really glowed. Georgie was a complex character as well. And just annoying enough to be believable.

My only criticism is that John was not as fleshed out as Georgie, Lexi or even other secondary characters. And the transition in his feelings for Georgie was missing. I sensed the author just decided it was time for him to love her so the book could end. I also wondered if an aggressive editor hadn't cut a little too much out of the story line about Georgie's TV career. That part of the story seemed like it was supposed to be important, then it just fizzled out. I usually think books should be shorter. Another 2 chapters would have been appreciated on this one.

Those were actually minor points though. This was a well written and very well narrated book and I highly recommend it.

I went back and read my review of the author's most recent book. Her freshman effort was far better. I hope she finds that voice again.

Laugh out Loud read

What a fun story! The over the top beginning with a wedding the size of Texas to her being left to make it for herself was fun to listen to. Throw in some romance with the hockey player and I just love me some Rachel Gibson. I found myself always wanting to listen and having a hard time putting it down! Georgeanne was just this side of out there that made you really embrace her character, and John was just broody enough to get it. All in all, i may actually re-read this!

Is this a re-release????

I own all the other hockey series...Any Man of Mine is still my favorite. But I related to this main character.

Romantic love story

Purely romantic, sensual & heart warming story! I loved the story, the tenderness, the characters, tons of steamy sizzle & passion (without being vulgar or tasteless). A very classic, with a twist, love story

Cute & Entertaining!

I enjoyed this fast paced audiobook. It fast-forwards events that in most longer books go into too much detail (I call filler words) and become boring, yet the crucial areas of the book are described in detail, making it interesting from start to finish.

I was happy to see less filler words used--most people can imagine an elopement to Nevada without having every detail spelled out for them, or flights to and from England on a private Jet, without every detail being drawn out.

Although the narrator did well, I think another narrator could have done better, especially during the sex scenes.

All in all, I would recommend "Wife By Wednesday" for someone wanting a light entertaining afternoon or evening.

Matchmaker's Heaven

While Samantha was trying to find a wife match for Blake, he was busy matching up with her. The is a light-hearted, feel good romance. There was instant attraction between Blake and Samantha so they quickly turned a marriage of convenience into a marriage for keeps. The story was made interesting by the people surrounding them that didn't want to see this marriage succeed. This is a quick and enjoyable listen. Good first book to a new series.

Tanya Eby is a very good narrator and this story suited her talents. She helped to make it an enjoyable listen.

Worth the reduced price I paid. I liked it enough to purchase the other books in the series.

Cute Romantic Story

This is definitely a reread. I liked the characters and the narrator. The story was quick, romantic and had funny moments. Light reading when you need a quick escape.

Tumbs up if your a roamantic soul!

Im always a sucker for a guy gets girl; struggles to keep girl kind of story. This plot has been done in movies at least three or four times in the recent past. If you are a romantic or like fairy tales set in good old USA then this novel is for you. Bybee does an excellent job in character development given the length and depth of the plot. By the end first hour of listening, you are wondering where the rub is going to come from is it here, there, and from who. I like the pace and the grace the Tanya Evy brings to the performance of the characters. I recommend it, it is a pretty short listen - only five hours, you wont be disappointed.

A pleasant surprise!

I wanted to try a new author (new for me) so I gave this story a shot. And what a pleasant surprise I got! I don't like to give spoilers so let's just say this is a secret millionaire meets poor single mom. It's a cute interesting love story. It is set around Christmas time so it was extra special to listen to it during this time. I'm happy to see this is a series! I hope the next book is about Jessie's sister.

Narration: this is the first time I've listened to a book narrated by Amy McFadden and I was not impressed. She was just ok. She needs to really work on the male voices. Hopefully the next book in the series will have a different narrator.

Note: although this book has a less-than-desirable narration I still recommend it. Very cute contemporary romance story similar in style to Susan Mallery.

Entertaining, Engaging

This story was fun. The author engaged my imagination from the first chapter. It is a light read, We need books like this to take you out of heavy novels at times. I really liked all these characters. The encounters were believeable. The narration was superb...perfect for this book. I recommend this book if you want a story that is interesting and takes you to that feel good place. Thank you Ms. Bybee for perfect timing...smart dialog.

Sweet!!!!

"Not Quite Dating" is a well written story and easy listening. A chance meeting between a single mother and a cowboy changes their lives....but all is not what it seems.

Amy McFadden didn't do a bad job of narrating, but she doesn't do male voices well. I didn't feel she detracted from the story, although she did not enhance it.

I would recommend it, if your looking for a sweet romance. It's nice for a change of pace.

Not Quite Enjoyable

Regarding the book: I figured it would be the usual formula for a romance novel...going in with that expectation..it was still lacking for me. The heroine was a little too whiney for my tastes.

Regarding the Audible Narration: I have listened to many audible books...this was definitely not the worst but certainly not one of the better ones either. The narrator made the female love interest's voice "lispy" at times which was distracting and a bit confusing because it made her sound too much like her sister's voice. The male voices were mediocre at best and the Texas draw left much to be desired.

Notes for the Narrator

Would you try another book from Tracy Brogan and/or Lori Reyes?

I might try another book by the author. The writing is predictable. When the main character would think something like "I'm acting stupid" I would find myself thinking, "Yes, you REALLY are-- in fact, too stupid for someone of that age." I would not try Lori Reyes again. I found myself switching to other books and not really caring if I finished this one.

Would you recommend Crazy Little Thing to your friends? Why or why not?

No. IMO, you should only recommend books that you think are great and worth reading.

What didnt you like about Lori Reyess performance?

Ms. Reyes needs to work on her character voices. Her normal voice is -- well, normal for a woman. Soothing low tone which was great for the main character. But for every other female character, she raised her voice. For the great aunt (80-something year old woman) she went extremely high pitched -- higher than the 6 yr old girl. Plus, for every inflection she went a little screechy. I tried to ignore it but by chapter 8 I finally switched to the Kindle version of the book and used "Text-to-Speech" so the computer voice could read the book. It's a terrible reflection on the narrator when a computer does a better job. I strongly suggest she never uses that high pitched voice again. Also, for the gay man character she used a "swishy" voice that sounded like she had a slight lisp. In real life, they don't sound that way. I've known several flamboyant, "swishy" gay man and they only time they use that tone or inflection is when they are making fun of the stereotype. The only time I've heard a gay man use that tone was an actor on TV or a movie.

If this book were a movie would you go see it?

No. And they wouldn't make this into a movie. Not even a Lifetime movie. Too predictable and the character's behavior was annoyingly stupid.

Meh... avoid this Narrator at all costs

I needed a lighthearted story and this would certainly count as one. A nice distraction, nothing too gripping and missing a day here or there didn't stress me out like sometimes when I'm in the throes of a great listen. No pressure to grab a listen... stress free.

The narrator tanked it, however. If my elderly aunt spoke in the same screechy voice the narrator used when reading Aunt Dodie, I'd run for the hills, not spend a summer vacation with her! And the Scottish accent the narrator used for the love interest, sounded more like a muddled Dutch/Swedish accent... just miserable...

Fifty Shades Minus Twilight.

Hot, sexy, fit, late twenty-something billionaire who built his empire from scratch before turning 30 despite having a traumatic past immediately becomes obsessed with young twenty-something girl who is pretty and doesn't know it and despite beginning the sexcapades more like a business transaction and swearing he doesn't do the relationship thing, he immediately fall in love, plasters his walls with giant pictures of her and become super possesive, stalkerish, and jealous of anything with a penis.

Wait. What book am I reviewing? Oh yeah.

Christian... Oops! I mean Gideon... is the kind of guy who ignores a girl then when she gets upset tells her he wasn't that he only sees her, then screws her brains out and goes back to ignoring her. Her is Eva, not Ana, and she's constantly looking for something wrong with this guy she's so drawn to. The nightmare rape and real rape while the guy is having a nightmare only bothers her for a few hours before they do it again. Drama drama drama. There was so much forced drama that lead to sex that it really got old quick. Too much sexy time can chafe. These kinds of relationships are so friggin unhealthy and if it were real life there'd be a restraining order involved.

But it's not real life, it's an erotic novel. And as my friend tells me, I need to quit analyzing this stuff as a real story and just appreciate it for the hot and sexy romp that it is. I try, I really do. But I can't help myself... like... you may notice that every single person, even the bit players in the book, are sexy. The roommate, the cab driver, the boss, the boss's boyfriend, the secretary at the front desk... the office assistant... EVERYONE is HOT.

So if that doesn't bother you, enjoy :)

Not For Me, I know I'm the only one!

I seem to be the only person in the world who isn't enjoying this series. I don't feel any chemistry between the characters. I couldn't get past the whole "we meet, we're in love, we need counseling" all in a month or less. I guess i need more build up and less drama in my books. This book is without a doubt steamy but that's about all it is. I don't hate it, but it's nothing that I will recommend to others.

This narration is why we buy audiobooks.

I couldn't wait to hear what happened Gideon and Eva, so I purchased "Reflected In You" for my kindle and read the book at one sitting.

Look Beyond the Sex

Zane is very well known for her sexy novels. But underneath them all are deep, moving stories with very well-rounded characters.

If you are easily offended, then books by Zane are not for you. But, if you don't mind a good story with really good sex thrown in, then these are books for you. "Addicted" and "Nervous" (the sequel to "Addicted") were awesome. I highly recommend them both.

Awesome narration by Nicole Small. I will seek out other audiobooks with her as narrator.

Very Sweet!

This book is pure romance. If you are looking for a little suspense or danger with your romance this is not the book for you. But if you like sweet romantic love stories get this book. This is the second book in the series and I have enjoyed both...can't wait until the third book comes out!

Bed of Roses

I found this book to be fantastic. I was actually very impressed with the narrator. She had a great voice, and really pulled off the emotional parts beautifully. I always love Nora's books, but I do not always enjoy the audio versions. For me this narrator made this book better.

Lovely, romantic, captivating story

The narrator is excellent, easy to listen to. The story of 4 women is so easy to relate to. I was so drawn into this story. Highly recommended!

Where does Bed of Roses rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

This was actually one of my first audiobooks and it still ranks high among the books I've listened to so far.

What did you like best about this story?

I love the commraderie among the women in the story and how their social group formed. In each story we learn a little more about them and how they came to be where they are. I think that the history we share with our closest friends shapes who we are and that comes out in this story.

What about Angela Dawes performance did you like?

She does really great voices and it's like watching a movie with her performances.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book is full of moments that made me laugh, cry, and hit things in frustration. Can't ask for more than that.

Bad Narration

I read this series and looked forward to listening to it. This narrator ruined the story. One voice and a lisp too! - I am glad to see the narrator was changed for the 2nd and 3rd book in the series so I am looking forward to hearing those. I recommend reading the paper copy and skipping this audio.

Romance okay, narrator stinks!

The story is okay but not one of Nora Robert's best. The narrator really killed it for me. She has a lisp and I'm not sure why they would have someone with a lisp narrate a book - it was very distracting. The characters were not as developed and you didn't feel the attraction between them like I have in other NR books.

This is the first in a series and if the same narrator does future books I won't be purchasing them. Save your credits/money.

Surprised at Nora Roberts

I wait for all of Nora`s books including JDRobb/I do alot of driving. The reader of this book is very hard to listen. She appears to have a lisp so all of the characters have it as well

so if the reader is important to you do what i am doing buying a hard copy.

Not so much

Never listened to Nora Roberts before- not sure if this inspired me to buy more although I have heard they can be addictive. Trying not to be offensive but the narrator's lisp is very distracting and each character has the same voice- not distinction and everything is said in a sing-song, high school way. Really wanted to like the story but its just to hard to get past the narrator.

I love the 4 books in this series - this one is the first two, the next book is entitled Charmed & Enchanted and is the story of the two other cousins. Morgana and Sebastian find their loves in this volume - I really want the companion volume too! Love Nora Roberts!

a charming and uplifting story

I enjoyed this book. Very light and not deep, but charming and enjoyable. A feel good type of story.

Witches in love

Just finished listening to the first book. It was a OK light romance, not one of NR's best but still fun. I don't think the main character needed to be a witch for this story, it wasn't really used effectively. I am, however, listening to the 2nd book and liking it a lot better, so far.

Finished Entranced and found I liked Sebastian's story better! I like the way their relationship developed as they investigated the child abduction ring.

To tell the truth the most intersting people were the main character's unique parents. Made me want to read about thier story!

I loved the book - the story really is a sweet love story. The narrator is mostly o.k. but does have her moments of brilliance.

Longing to see Ireland

Loved this series. I now want to see the green hills of Ireland. Beautiful romance and excellent narration.
