Freenet is told in the POV of Simara, a young girl who has lived the majority of her life in space; Zen, who lives on the planet Bali and Roni, a news presenter. The entire book is split approximately into 1/3rd for each individuals POV.

Unfortunately I was not able to connect with any of the characters in Freenet. I found the planet Bali, and the culture that it has to be more interesting than the characters. All 3 of the main characters were very 1 dimensional, and i found them quite annoying.

I am also slightly confused by what Freenet's premises was meant to be about. To be fair, Freenet does leave you on a major cliffhanger at the end, and if i had enjoyed the story more, i would have loved it.

I would recommend Freenet to anyone who likes a more psychological science fiction thriller.

Great for fans of Phillip K Dick, and the Sci Fi genre

I really enjoyed this book. I am a fan of the sci-fi genre, and this story gave me almost everything I could hope for. The plot was portrayed in a unique way, and the ending was quite a surprise. Very, Phillip K Dick. I liked that the book ended up being something completely different than what I originally perceived it too be. If you're a fan of the genre, I highly recommend this book.

Good to the last drop

I have read all his books and I wish more people would discover the universe he has created! The only reason you haven't heard of this author yet is because he hasn't been discovered!!!! I was pulled in by the a-typical protagonist and her caricature development. I cant help but be interested in the cold, emotionally stunted hero. The caricatures are interesting, dark, and raw. I am always fascinated by the descriptions of tech and the alien universe these stories are set in. I was sucked in the story and found myself exclaiming outloud several times, up to the very last few pages.

This is not a feel good/everything wraps up sci-fi. It's interesting, dark, and pulls no punches on the reality of making difficult universe changing decisions. I was a fan of this book the whole way through and was really interested with the last 5 pages (trust me).

I am a big fan of the chosen narrator: she has a great cadence and an interesting accent that gives the book an exotic flavor.

A Good Solid Story

Deceit of Humanity is an engaging read with believable characters and a gripping plot. The protagonist, Silhouette, is three-dimensional and her thoughts and feelings are integral to the story. Her experiences are described in a real and believable manner. I am not a sci-fi enthusiast, but enjoyed this book. The integration of technology was seemless, believable, and not over-powering.

Zehra Jane Naqvi's accent adds a degree of exotic, other-worldliness to the presentation that enhances the experience.

oldie but goodie

Old SiFi thriller with a moral twist. Good read. Set in the sixties the author tries to show the bad side of being the only superpower. A position we are in yet again.

Interesting Concept

The idea of the story was interesting and caught my interest fairly quickly. The characters were not developed well, but the plot was. The protagonist kept me thinking through most of the story. This was a good quick read.

Showing its age

Somewhat entertaining but its age is showing. The solution to the mystery is too obvious (and had become an over used staple of cold war era SF).

Simply written, silly plot

I gave it one star because It has a little of suspense but I figured the end right away. I don't recommend it.

Great stuff.

Classic "racist", "sexist" SF. Great stuff.

From Darkest Skies

Continuing with my self-imposed mission to diversify my reading, I chose this one to try as I have recently had a good outing with sci-fi as a genre and this one also piqued my crime fiction interest. Keon Rouse is a government agent and native of Magenta. His story here starts when his work assignment on Gibraltar has been cut short due to an incident that he may or may not have been involved in. We also learn early on that his wife, Alysha, is dead, in a bombing on a night-goods-train. I say dead, she is to all intents and purposes, although he does have a rather nifty AI version of her, who he names Liss, who he is using to try and solve her own murder. After re-acclimatising to Magenta's strong gravity, Keon meets with his team, some assigned to him, others requested by him, hand picked to assist him with his side-mission. Find out who killed his wife, and why?

On the whole, I enjoyed this foray into the sci-fi world. I do admit that, being not as familiar with the genre as the hard core fan, I did initially struggle a tad with some of the concepts but, instead of fighting it and trying to "get" everything, I found that doing a bit of simple "accepting" made my overall journey a lot more comfortable. Making a character list as I went also helped immensely! The crime that Keon was officially meant to investigate was interesting and I really enjoyed the puzzle solving antics of Keon and his team, especially some of the trips they made along the way. Characterisation was good, once I had the characters cemented in my head, and I found that they all had depth and individual skills that they all brought, complementing each other well. Liss, I found to be interesting. Having watched and enjoyed the new series of Westworld (which this book has been compared to) I was quite easily able to believe in her.

The story itself went along at a fair lick, but at the right speed. Certain incidents from the past were injected in just the right places to enhance the current day narrative. Description was enough to set the scene without being over intrusive.
