Blonde Bombshell Is Right

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I think any fan of political thriller, Cold War thrillers, as well as anyone who is a fan of the late Marilynn Monroe will most certainly get a kick out of this one.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Blonde?

No one moment struck me as particularly memorable as much as the evolution of Marilyn as a character through the course of the novel. In the beginning, she embodies that starlet image that she is iconic for, but with each little twist in her recruitment by Russian intelligence and her involvement with the Kennedy brothers, it all built to one heck of an ending.

What does Erin Mallon bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?

Well, her voice acting was top notch, and her dialogue as Marilyn alone was remarkable. Beyond that, she managed to disappear with each character, with no one voice proving to be a distraction.

This 8th installment of the "Deadly" series is another winner!

"Deadly Kisses" is author Brenda Joyce's eighth installment in the historical mystery/romance series featuring New York City debutante Francesca Cahill. Ms. Cahill, society bluestocking and heiress to a considerable fortune, has done remarkably well so far as an amateur sleuth, NYC's first female private investigator and a major novelty in her chosen profession. It is only 1902, after all, and women still have seventeen more years before the United States Congress and Senate approve the 19th Amendment, giving them the right to vote.

Francesca has solved the case of the City Strangler, the heinous Cross Killer mystery, two child kidnappings, several murders, captured a stalker, discovered the ringleaders of a child prostitution ring and had them put behind bars, restoring the young girls to their families, and thus has earned the right to call herself "Crime-Solver Extraordinaire," as printed on her Tiffany embossed business cards. A Bit Disappointed in This Second Installment

I gave a positive review to the first book in this series by Martin Jensen; however, this time around I feel that we readers have been let down a bit. Winston takes much more of a back seat to Halfden this time around, as the murder of a monk baffles the duo. I found the story much less compelling here, and recalled that the threat of the King's wrath added necessary tension to "The King's Hounds." I did enjoy the addition of Alfilda to the sleuthing pair, but wish her character could be given more to do than brood and stare out windows. Would it be a better series if the author took us into the minds and perspectives of the three central characters? I think perhaps so. Napoleon Ryan does a good job again in his narration, though his pacing is very languid and occasionally it sounds as though he needs to spit.

Translation problematic. Jars in a great story

Too many modern words being used. They jar, and disrupt the flow of what is otherwise a great yarn.

Absorbing and entertaining despite its flaws

Well, I'm currently listening to the second volume and bought the third for my kindle, so I guess I'm liking this series. The premise is just different enough to entertain those of us who like mysteries in quirky settings. And that brings me to the annoying aspect of these books - the author's persistent use of extremely anachronistic terminology. He doesn't have to use Middle English or whatever, but does he have to talk about people "shacking up" etc.?

Good story, likeable characters

Good light read. Some anachronisms but they don't take away from the story -- though they are a minor annoyance. Narration is so slow I checked to see if it was speed, and the narrator often read heavy portent into the most commonplace sentences. Good otherwise though.

Action Packed

Jake and Toad save the world, again. This time in Russia during the 90s with a nuclear meltdown, a dog fight between an attack airplane and a fighter, killings in the streets and a pesky reporter. Action galore. Where's my next Coonts book?

Great read!

I've been a Jake Grafton fan for years and this book was was well written and I eagerly await the next book in this series.

Turns and twists!

A complicated twisting and spellbinding take. This one must have kept Stephen Coonts awake for months to stitch all of these plots together!

Great, but dated, military and espionage thriller!

This novel is set in 1993 in Washington DC, Moscow, and Iraq. The issue that it deals with is Russia's nuclear arsenal after the USSR dissolved. It is well worth listening to despite being dated. All of Stephen Coonts' novels are excellent. Highly recommended.

Probably not. I enjoyed the other books, but this one and the previous book were too far fetched.

The Narrator is excellent. The different voices and inflection he uses are perfect.

Sadness in wasting so much time listening to this book. Very disappointed in the Author. Not sure he is even trying anymore.

This series, beginning with Flight of the Intruder had been one of my all time favorites. Unfortunately, as the author continued down the line he had to stretch the capabilities of the characters, and in this book he officially "jumped the shark". The plot line is totally unrealistic, and the actions performed by the hero are simply nonsensical.

This Lady Can Wright

What made the experience of listening to The Lion and the Rose the most enjoyable?

Narration was perfect. The story was a keeper. I fell into the three main character with pure enjoyment.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I don't know. I loved them all. As I said they were a joy to spend time with. It is fiction with a twist of history and a very beautiful love story. No smut. Just pretty.

What about the narratorss performance did you like?

They were talent. They were art in action. They took pride in their performance. A real pleasure.

I do wish she had more audible books out.

Utterly Absurd Ending!!!!

What a disappointment! I can't believe I sat through both these books (Serpent and the Pearl, and Lion and the Rose), only to reach a completely ridiculous and unbelievable conclusion! What a waste of 35 hours! In fact, the ending is so absurd and inane that I thought it was just a dream sequence, and that the character would wake up to reality. I don't want to give any spoilers so I won't give more detail, except to say that the 'happily ever after' is unreasonably absurd.

The books were interesting and held my attention till the end, but then the author made a wreckless decision with the characters that defies belief. Also the narrator who reads for Giuilia is terrible. She's hard to understand and reads in a flat boring voice without proper attention to sentence structure. I was able to overcome the flat narration, I got used to it after a while. But the ending is not easy to overlook. I can't stress how bizarre the last hour and a half is. This forced happy ending completely ruined this series for me.

Loved this book and series

Really enjoyed listening to this and The Serpent and the Pearl. Two fantastic books, storyline and readers got you hooked. Just as you were immersed in one story line the reader would change and you had that "oh no moment" only to be quickly caught up in the next readers story. Of the characters I think Carmelina was my favourite but only just.

TESSA HARRIS HITS OUT OF THE PARK AGAIN!

I can't say enough good things about the Dr. Thomas Silkstone stories. I downloaded this one without even reading the synopsis. Last year, I read Harris first book in this series and was blown away. I immediately downloaded the second one. Again, a great book. It's been about 6 months and I stumbled upon her latest book by accident (I wish Audible.com would implement a way that Members can be notified when favorite authors have a new release). "The Devil's Breath" is outstanding. Dr. Thomas Silkstone continues to be a well-developed character. We get a good understanding of the leading edge of what would eventually become good medical practices (not guess work, superstition, bleeding, and/or forms of witchcraft) and the advent of forensic medicine. Plus the deadly catastrophic event which kills many people during this era is a little known natural disaster that reared its ugly head again in THIS millennium! That is the true villain here. You will be shocked and frightened because it can happen again!

I can't wait for book #4 in this series, due out in June in print form. Get on it, Audible - don't make YOUR Members wait too long for the audiobook! Tessa Harris has devoted fans who are ready to buy the next Dr. Silkstone book as soon as it is released! I hope this will be a 20+ book series!

good but not great

Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?

The book was worth getting, but it's probably not one I'll listen to a second time as I might re-read a book. While the concept of a killer fog is quite good (and historically accurate), the doctor seems to be rather slow on the uptake on much of it. Also, the heroine is again notable for her incredible lack of backbone.

Would you recommend The Devil's Breath to your friends? Why or why not?

It's worth getting if one is interested in historical mystery/ fiction. But it could be a lot better with less transparent villains and a stronger female character.

I enjoyed this story immensely! Very unique and entirely plausible to me. Definitely recommend to those readers who wish to expand their knowledge of classic fine art, European destinations not overly mentioned in books, and just the right amount of Holocaust references to remind us not to forget, without making the story depressing. The narrator did an excellent job of bringing the unique cast of characters to life! A hidden gem I hope more readers discover!

Romance, fantasy, and murder

As a mystery, I would have given a five-didn't see the resolution coming at all! However, the extremely complex issue of class distinction is handled in such a cavalier manner that it annoyed me. It is a fantasy--future reader, and a romance, with a good mystery added in to it. Enjoy!

Great mystery

I love these mystery novels! The reader for this novel is fantastic, too. Highly recommend this book for those who like mystery and historical fiction.

Spot on narration!

What did you love best about Behind the Shattered Glass?

I am so glad that Audible decided to have Bianca Amato narrate all of the later half of the series. She brings a wealth of character voices to the stories and delivers her narration in a believable manner. Despite many of the negative reviews for this particular book in the Lady Emily series, I enjoyed it. Granted, the plot wasn't as complex as some of her other books and I seriously doubt the ending was overly realistic, but overall it was still an enjoyable listen.

Not really as it was predictable in several places.

I have listened to a few of the stories she has narrated and her performance for this story was just as good as previous readings.

I have to say Ms Larkin's performance of George was my favorite. She conveyed his vulnerability and the extent of his disability really well while still showing he had the same fears and determination as his siblings.
