    Publisher's Summary:
The Emmy Award-nominated and Edgar Award-winning duo of Susan Kim and Laurence Klavan deliver a heart-pounding finale to the postapocalyptic teen world of the Wasteland, filled with dramatic twists and turns. Best-selling author of Criminal, Karin Slaughter, called Wasteland "a Lord of the Flies for future generations. An irresistible page-turner."
No one dares to leave the District - the towering structure of glass and steel that is their protection against the unruly bands of Outsiders that roam Mundreel and the deadly rain that carries the disease that kills all over the age of 19.
This skyscraper stands amid the urban devastation, the city rumored to have once been called "Montreal". Esther and her allies have created a haven on the rooftop, a garden that flourishes, and a home for her new baby, hidden from all but the very few who know her secret. But as Gideon's power grows, and factions form, the ultimate darkness is born from greed, and Esther must find a way to save the citizens from themselves.

I loved all three books in this series
I loved all three books in this series. The main character was a teen named Esther. She grew into a strong leader and set a good example as a caring and giving person. The world the story was set in was interesting and just a little frightening.
A great conclusion to this trilogy!!
The conclusion to this young adult, post apocalyptic dystopian novel moved at a very fast pace!
It has been a roller coaster ride for Esther and her band of friends. These children showed that anything can be accomplished with hard work, team work, persistence, patience and Interpersonal intelligence!!
    Four Stars
    Can't wait to read it.

The Gripping Final Installment in the YA Dystopian Wasteland Trilogy!
    3.5 Stars
'Guardians' is the gripping final book in the young adult dystopian Wasteland Trilogy. Esther, her friends, and her newest allies have created a safe place to call home in an old skyscraper in what was once Montreal. At their home, they have a garden on the rooftop so they can grow their own food and no longer have to worry about starving. The downside to this post-apocalyptic haven they've created is the Outsiders - groups of kids and teens that rule the street of the city and survive mainly by stealing or scavenging. There's also the toxic rain that everyone has to worry about - it kills anyone over the age of nineteen. The bands outside the District's walls are becoming more dangerous, and with Gideon gaining power over the outsiders, a real threat is looming over them all and it's just a matter of time before it's unleashed. It's up to Esther to save the others from themselves, before everyone and everything they've worked so hard to create is destroyed.
This was a solid final installment in a gripping dystopian trilogy that always had me reading as fast as I could to see what was going to happen next. There continues to be a ton of action in the book, so you never quite know what to expect. The plot was well done with a fast pace and lots of action. The world that was created in the book was incredibly detailed and vivid with imagery, so much so that I could easily envision it in my mind. The one thing that always got to me and pulled me out of the thrall of the book was the age of the characters.

    Title: The Dickens Mirror
    Author: Ilsa J. Bick
    Narrator: Kathleen McInerney
    Format: Unabridged
Length: 17 hrs and 44 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-10-15
    Publisher: Audible Studios
Ratings: 4 of 5 out of 3 votes
    Genres: Teens, Ages 11-13
    Publisher's Summary:
Critically acclaimed author of The Ashes Trilogy, Ilsa J. Bick takes her new Dark Passages series to an alternative Victorian London where Emma Lindsay continues to wade through blurred realities now that she has lost everything: her way, her reality, her friends. In this London Emma will find alternative versions of her friends from the White Space and even Arthur Conan Doyle.
Emma Lindsay finds herself with nowhere to go, no place to call home. Her friends are dead. Eric, the perfect boy she wrote into being, and his brother, Casey, are lost to the Dark Passages. With no way of knowing where she belongs, she commands the cynosure, a beacon and lens that allows for safe passage between the Many Worlds, to put her where she might find her friends--find Eric--again. What she never anticipated was waking up in the body of Little Lizzie, all grown up--or that in this alternative London, Elizabeth McDermott is mad.
In this London Tony and Rima are "rats"--teens who gather the dead to be used for fuel. Their friend, Bode, is an attendant at Bedlam, where Elizabeth has been committed after being rescued by Arthur Conan Doyle, a drug-addicted constable.
Tormented by the voices of all the many characters based on her, all Elizabeth wants is to get rid of the pieces under her skin once and for all. While professing to treat Elizabeth, her physician, Dr. Kramer, has actually drugged her to allow Emma, who's blinked to this London before, to emerge as the dominant personality...because Kramer has plans. Elizabeth is the key to finding and accessing the Dickens Mirror.
But Elizabeth is dying, and if Emma can't find a way out, everyone as they exist in this London, as well as the 12-year-old version of herself and the shadows--what remains of Eric, Casey, and Rima that she pulled with her from the Dark Passages--will die with her.

Amazing text. Love reading a text that stretches your thinking.
Utterly phenomenal; Bick's done it again!
Continuing from where White Space left off, Emma is now trapped in the mind of Elizabeth, who is in turn trapped inside an asylum in an alternate-universe Victoria London that is besieged by a strange thick fog and a dreaded rotting disease. Rima, Tony, and Bode are also there, but as though they grew up in that London, rather than as the characters we got to know in the previous book. Kramer is still after the secret of the Dickens Mirror and the ability to jump to different Nows.
This book is a brain-bender, and I'm not exaggerating. Firstly, thereâs all the ideas that got introduced during White Space. That book-worlds can yield real people. That characters in books can create characters of their own and in turn become real. That real people can have pieces of themselves put into characters in books and thus share a deep link with them. That time is an illusion. Thatâs all still in there, and is fundamental to understanding whatâs going on. Then you add in a tweak on dissociative identity disorder, the question of whether characters are more real than the people who created them, and whether or not I as the reader am even real or whether Ilsa Bick is still writing me!
(No, seriously, I actually had a moment during this book where I doubted my own reality.

    PERFECT GIFT for EVERY TEEN
â"Maggie Vaults Over the Moon" is the PERFECT mood-elevator for any young person who has gone through, or is going through tough times - - in other words, EVERY Teen on the planet. Maggie is the perfect gift for any occasion for every young person you know. It is an uplifting, feel-good story about a young woman who overcomes gender bias, disappointment, loss and other obstacles by exploring her own identity and discovering her greatness was always there - - it only had to be set free.
What I liked most about the story was that it took the main character through a process of self-discovery that will serve as the perfect template for EVERY young person's own journey of self-discovery. This is more than "just a story." I will go so far as to predict that anyone of any age who reads this book will experience significant discoveries about their own potential greatness and ability for dream fulfillment. Wow! I'm STILL hovering a foot off the ground from reading "Maggie Vaults Over the Moon" ...which proves that all of us are still young in our hearts - - and, if we are open to new discoveries, can still find unexplored depths and potentials in ourselves that are always with us, if we would only set them free. I say again: WOW!
In my opinion, this is an instant classic that will serve as an ideal gift for young people for years to come.
A Story of Triumph Over Adversity of the Flying Variety!
I love a good read, however, it has been a while since I've done a book review here. Before I even began Maggie Vaults Over the Moon, I gave author/fellow Brooks ID teammate Grant Overstake my word that I would review his uplifting fictional story of loss, family, meaning-making and of course-track and field.
Per usual I tend to/can't help reading through a psychological lens. This time I read through an inquisitive one as well as this distance runner knows very little about the discipline of pole-vaulting. All I knew before reading is that it looks both scary and really cool at the same time! I have always secretly admired the grace and grit of a pole vault athlete as well.
In the spirit of not giving too much away, Overstake's tale takes us to the plains of rural Kansas, a town called Grain Valley to be exact, and tells the story of Maggie Steele, an adolescent who loses her brother to a car accident early in the story.

    Title: The Tragic Age

Length: 7 hrs and 11 mins
    Language: English
    Release date: 03-03-15

Ratings: 4.5 of 5 out of 6 votes
    Genres: Teens, Ages 11-13
    Publisher's Summary:
The Tragic Age is a brilliant debut coming-of-age novel about a misanthropic young man learning to love, trust, and truly be alive in an absurd world.
This is the story of Billy Kinsey, heir to a lottery fortune, part genius, part philosopher and social critic, full-time insomniac, and closeted rock drummer. Billy has decided that the best way to deal with an absurd world is to stay away from it. Do not volunteer. Do not join in. Billy will be the first to tell you it doesn't always work - not when your twin sister, Dorie, has died; not when your unhappy parents are at war with one another; not when frazzled soccer moms in two-ton SUVs are more dangerous than atom bombs; and not when your guidance counselor keeps asking why you haven't applied to college.
Billy's life changes when two people enter it. Twom Twomey is a charismatic renegade who believes that truly living means going a little outlaw. Twom and Billy become each other's benefactor and friend. At the same time, Billy is reintroduced to Gretchen Quinn, an old and adored friend of Dorie's. It is Gretchen who suggests to Billy that the world can be transformed by creative acts of the soul.
With Twom Billy visits the dark side. And with Gretchen Billy experiences possibilities.
He knows that one path is leading him toward disaster and the other toward happiness. The problem is Billy doesn't trust happiness. It's the age he's at - the tragic age.

Strong Start, then Veers into Hollywood Ending
    Any additional comments?
I know Im not the intended audience for this book (40-something mother of two boys), but I decided to go ahead and write a review on the audiobook since no one else has yet. Billy is a cynical, depressed 17 year old kid living in a rich community in Southern California (sounds like La Jolla to me, but Mr. Metcalfe mentioned in his interview with The San Diego Union Tribune that he was thinking of Pacific Palisades) after his parents won the lottery. He's sort of friends with a nerdy, socially awkward boy named Ephraim, and soon befriends a troubled kid named Tomb (apparently his name is spelled Twom according to the reviewers on Amazon who read the book as opposed to listening to the audiobook like I did). The novel is written in the first person in Billys point of view, and hes dealing with some serious issues that made me think I was listening to a serious literary YA novel: his sister Dorie died of cancer years ago; he has something called hemangioma, a huge red birthmark on his face that embarrasses him; his parents marriage isnt a happy one; and he carries around the book Being and Time by Heidegger in his backpack. For a while I felt like I was listening to another version of The Perks of Being a Wallflower, until the girls start showing up in the story as basically teen sex fantasies: the girl who becomes Tomb's girlfriend is essentially a teenage boy's wet dream (the first thing she says when she shows up in the novel is 'Hey Billy, you want to go out with me Friday night? I might even suck your dick.) And Billys first date with Gretchen: Gretchens hair and clothes are soakedshes wearing no bra, and I can see her nipples poking out through her thin, wet top. When Billy and his girlfriend finally consummate their relationship, the sex veers close to soft-core porn for teen boys: I have my hand under her dress. I cant believe how soft and wet she is.

    Publisher's Summary:
Before the great Disaster, the country of Maynor was known as the "state of Maine." People were free to travel, and there were no birmbas (dangerous mutant animals) to fear. Now the people are walled inside their villages and forbidden to leave without armed guards. Because of her webbed hand, the young orphan Leora is an outcast in Village Three. Even though her hand enables her to draw the visions that haunt her, she fears it will land her in the Institute with the other "defectives."
When she accidentally learns that the mutants are friendly, Leora ventures into the forbidden Outside. As she begins her journey of discovery, she joins a group of young rebels and uses her visions to help them. Despite its disturbing visions of a brutal society, Susan Butler's first novel sings a sweet song of hope. Much like The Moorchild, this fantasy presents gentle lessons about prejudice and the hatred and fear it engenders. Kate Forbes' narrative voice keeps listeners rapt to the very end.

This girl goes through the wringer for sure
*I was given this in exchange for an honest review*
A girl in a world that is falling apart when a virus starts killing people, well some people. They dont know why some people were killed but not others. It seems that mostly the people that survived were younger. In this story where theres a group of bullies, a group of people that help, and a girl who isnt quite sure where to fit in. She finds an awesome home in the woods that becomes hers along with all the survival things that she needs to survive and a couple of robots that run the house. She ends up falling in love with someone, gets betrayed, then is taken to be someone elses and tortured. This poor girl goes through the wringer, but she keeps coming out on the other side. There was a time or two where I didnt know if she was going to make it, but Brealyn pulled through. She ends up with a happy ending, which she rightfully deserves after going through everything she does. There were a few parts where the book lagged a bit with unnecessary information, but overall I give this book a solid 4 STARS!!
    interesting but too fast
The setup for this one was interesting but too fast. Braelin is in an apocalyptic world, by herself. Her entire family has died from a cold, and she is left to fend for herself. Her father has told her to stay away from the woods, but as a last resort she decides to go into the woods because she has no other means of survival. While in the woods she hears some men and runs away. They give chase but lose her.
Braelin winds up finding a home where someone used to live. He has all the means and securities, like androids that grow food, so she immediately feels safe and stays there.
The portion about the woods was the first strange part. There is no real reason from her father of why not to go into the woods, but later in the book other people talk about it and it is explained.
The time lapses are also strange. I wanted to get to know Braelin but there are so many times when time just jumps. There are some moments here and there where she sees someone in her woods, or when shes talking to her robots, but thats pretty much it. The robots also do everything from growing food to alerting her if someone is coming near, while she is away from the house. They can even tell her how to get out of traps. Like her own personal google. It all seemed too easily set up instead of lived through. It gave me a two dimensional look at who she was and how she was surviving.
Then she meets the brothers. The second portion of the book is about this almost love triangle, but not quite. I really hate love triangles, for so many obvious reasons. She smart but she gets herself into a lot of trouble with these two.
The ending is okay but again, it is forced.

    Book 1
What was one of the most memorable moments of Crime Solver's Detective Agency?
This was an entertaining audio book. Karrine, the twelve-year-old crime detective, is a really cool character! Perfect for young readers.
    Crime Solver's Detective Agency
Would you consider the audio edition of Crime Solver's Detective Agency to be better than the print version?
I have not read the print version.
Who was your favorite character and why?
The Magical Disappearing Act was my daughter's favorite mystery. She liked that it ended up being a prank but didn't see it coming.
What does Stefanie Paige bring to the story that you wouldnt experience if you just read the book?
We were able to enjoy the book while traveling.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Although we listened to the entire book in one day (2 sittings), it would have worked well to have listened to one mystery at a time. My daughter (8) would probably have enjoyed it more if we had broken it down.
    Any additional comments?
My daughter has recently become interested in mysteries and enjoyed trying to figure out the mysteries. We enjoyed the story and the narration. I wondered whether the talk of dead bodies and autopsies in the last story, The Body, would disturb her with the but it didn't seem to.
A great start to a new kids series
The Beginning (Crime Solver's Detective Agency #1)
    By Victoria Schwimley
The Beginning is a great start to a new kids series. I listened to this with my 6th-grade daughter and she liked it too. This reminds me a bit of the Nancy Drew Mystery series I read as a child. The writing was age appropriate and written is a way to keep the young reader's attention. I loved the emotion the narrator expressed in her reading. Overall, I give The Beginning 5 Stars and cant wait to start book two.
    Great kids book
My 6 and 7 year old loved this book! And it was one that I could listen to and not become bore this!!!
    Amazing Read!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
Yes, I would recommend this audiobook to a friend because it is enjoyable for children and their parents.
What about Stefanie Paiges performance did you like?
I loved her voices. I fell like she can play any age.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
    Laugh at times yes.

This was pointless. I didn't love Roman Avery, yet I wanted to kiss Roman Avery. I'd bought a swimsuit to impress Roger Keen, but all I could think of was what Roman Avery would say about it. Now, Roman Avery said he had a date, and I was actually... actually... jealous. It smacked me in the face.
Stupid because he had a right to see whoever he wanted, and like he'd said, we were only friends.
The best way Coralee Pirtle can think of to be noticed by Roger Keen, is to show up at the big pool party in the right suit. Problem is, she doesn't own one and hasn't a dime to her name. Easily solved... she'll get a job.
Working alongside Roman Avery at the local hardware store isn't exactly what she had in mind, but how hard can it be? Two weeks, one paycheck, and she's set. However, plans change, and the more time goes by, the less appealing Roger seems, and the more Roman Avery becomes the man of her dreams.
From best-selling author, Suzanne D. Williams, comes a story of modesty and young love. Book one in The Coralee Chronicles.

I Got a Job at the Hardware Store...
Coralee Prittle was invited to a pool party and this time she wants to be in style. Instead of wearing the cover-up her mom always gets her, Coralee decides to buy herself the perfect two-piece bikini to impress Roger Keen. However, in order to get the money necessary she decides to look for a job that she'll work at for 2 weeks and then quit. When she comes across a hardware store she becomes hired by Grandpa Avery or Roman Avery's Grandfather. After working side-by-side with Roman for a short time, Coralee is wondering if there's more behind this relationship than what meets the eye.
Roman and Coralee were the best! Roman was soooo in love with Coralee and felt he would never be noticed by her so didn't give it a chance. However when time presents itself, Roman doesn't take advantage. He makes the right decisions based on morals & values. He loves Coralee just likes she is, mistakes and all. Coralee is so busy trying to make herself happy that she doesn't realize the man in front of her. She'll flirt and stuff but never admit it to herself that Roman Avery is the man for her.
I loved these two characters by Suzanne. I have so many favorite characters but I think this one wedged it's way to my heart. They were funny, and oh-so cute! The perfect story for the perfect characters! Can't wait for the next book!
I haven't gotten a report from her but I previewed it and thought it was good.
This was a gift for my granddaughter. I haven't gotten a report from her but I previewed it and thought it was good.
    One Star
Awful story. Very immature writing to the point that I could not finish it.
    BELLY BUTTON MUST SHOW
THE GIRL IN THE PINK BIKINI by Suzanne D Williams
Coralee had to show off her belly button, a bikini was a must have, then Roger would notice her. Been a couch and TV person, how does one get a job. Working for peanuts, and then there was Roman, since second grade, teasing me. A fist, hitting its mark, and yet, I was hired. Dad, had a different idea, pay for medical bill, then that would be the end of getting my bikini.
Working along with Roman, seeing the standards he sets by being a .Christain. The lessons in young love, getting a guy who loves you, for who you are in the inside. Cute, enjoyable read.

    Devastatingly Disappointing.
To say I was highly anticipating the series finale of Timeriders would be an understatement.
I havent been as invested in a lengthy series since Harry Potter. Ive been glowingly positive about every entry, even those a little lighter on the action and heavier on the overall story arc which comes to its conclusion here.
To say I am disappointed with the series finale of Timeriders would also be an understatement.
I am nothing short of devastated by this limp, uneventful and ultimately pointless wrap-up to a series Ive repeatedly praised for being fresh, exciting, clever and unique.
Im so let down, not only by where the author took the series but how weakly the Infinity Cage was executed it has tainted the whole series for me.
Given that the first 4-7 books focus more on standalone adventures (which were simply excellent) I would honestly recommend people only read those.
If your curiosity is genuinely piqued by the hints and clues dropped about the Timeriders origins throughout the seriesstill dont bother finishing the series because this wrap-up is ultimately unsatisfying.
Stunning Finale to a Fantastic Series
Would you listen to TimeRiders: The Infinity Cage (Book 9) again? Why?
I 'm tempted to start back at the beginning of the 9 book Timeriders Saga just to work out what plot seeds had been sent from the beginning. This was a great listen for me and stumbled on them by chance.
What other book might you compare TimeRiders: The Infinity Cage (Book 9) to, and why?
The Action of Alex Rider, The Fantasy of The Hunger Games and characterisation of Divergent.
What about Trevor Whites performance did you like?
Trevor was able to Characterise individual characters so well thta you didn't really need the "said Liam" or "said Maddie" etc.
Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?
Yest but sadly work gets in the way.
    Any additional comments?
Just sorry that this is the last in the series.
Not one of the best but still good
The fact it was amazing it was that it went into the future and past in the same book was great.

    A delightful experience
Where does Indigo Vamporium rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?
Well it's the first audiobook I've listened to so I can't really answer this question but it certainly was a delightful experience.
What was one of the most memorable moments of Indigo Vamporium?
I liked best where Seithe defends his sister's Ellint's honour when she is seduced by a human at a party. Seithe anger and righteousness and the love for his sister and her indignant reaction. It was all so recognisable and really gave a perfect insight into Seithe's character.
Which character as performed by Michael Pauley was your favorite?
I think Tasmin but as the novel switches between the characters quite swiftly and in first form, I think all of them were good. The sly Venix was very good as well.
Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?
The scene at the beach where Seithe and Tasmin fall in love.
    Any additional comments?
I'm absolutely overwhelmed by Poppet's vocabulary and her stringing of words into unique sentences.
    Just, Yes!
Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?
This audio book was amazing! It was so easy to listen to while working. (or not working, haha) Michael is a fantastic narrator! The way Poppet writes and describes is beautiful. The poetry in her writing. Awesome.
Who was your favorite character and why?
I love Seithe *so* much! He is by far my favorite. He takes on so much and feels everything with every ounce of his soul.
What about Michael Pauleys performance did you like?
I really just loved the way he spoke. Everything flowed nicely. He brought the joy, pain and happiness into the words spoken. When Seithe was sad you could FEEL it thanks to Michael.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?
Sitting at my desk at work I would break out laughing a few times and felt such sadness as well. I won't go into details because I don't want to spoil the book for anyone!
    Any additional comments?
Poppet~ I love this book so much! Thank you! I'm ready to start book 2 now! I encourage anyone who is into the supernatural, listen to this book. You will not be disappointed.
