  • Listen to the Prophets #27: Necessary Evil

This time out on LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS: A STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE PODCAST, Andy, Shawn, and Paul tackle the spectacular second season episode “Necessary Evil“. When a Bajoran woman asks Quark to retrieve a hidden item from a shop that she and her husband worked at during the occupation, the ensuing actions lead to a re-opened investigation of a murder of a Bajoran citizen living on Terak Nor. And the investigator at the time just happened to be the current constable of the station, Odo. Can Odo’s Columbo like detective skills lead him to solve the case, and if so will the truth of the matter drive a wedge between him and Major Kira, who might have been behind the murder all along. It’s a brilliant detective noir story that only DS9 could pull off. So stop what you’re doing and download the episode, queue up your mp3 player of choice, and take some time out of your day to…LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS.

  • Listen to the Prophets #26: Rules of Acquisition

As a wonderful little palate cleanser, the podcast geniuses behind LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS: A STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE PODCAST are proud to bring you episode 26, where Paul Spataro, Andy Leyland, and Shawn Engel revisit the Ferengi system of commerce with the episode “Rules of Acquisition”. When Grand Nagus Zek senses an opportunity for wine trade with a race of unfortunately named aliens from the Gamma Quadrant, he sends his best man, Quark, to negotiate the deal. But the aliens aren’t so willing to make the trade, and it’s up to Quark’s newest associate, Pel, to cememt the deal and make the duo insanely profitable. But Pel is hiding a secret that might bring the entire negotiation crashing down, and it all involves love…and a twist ending that is significantly better than anything M. Night Shyamalan has produced in decades. Plus, we get the first mention of an organization that will become one of the biggest threats to the series as well as the return of Wallace Shawn and all of his dangly lobed goodness. So what are you waiting for? Download the show, and make some time…to LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS.

  • Listen to the Prophets #25: Melora

What happens when you try to turn the Eighth Doctor’s only on screen companion into a crabby love interest for the horniest medical practitioner on Deep Space Nine? Well, you get today’s covered episode on LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS: A STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE PODCAST! Today, Shawn Engel, Paul Spataro, and Andrew Leyland take a look at the episode where a brilliant scientist from an ultra low gravity planet comes aboard the station and proceeds to be a complete and utter cow to EVERYONE she encounters because she has some chip on her shoulder about how she thinks she is being treated due to her “disability”. But despite her being a complete “see you next Tuesday”, she manages to have Dr. Bashir fall madly in love with her. And have zero gravity hot monkey love with her as well…at least that’s what we can assume happens. It’s a groundbreaking episode that redefines the show and introduces concepts that will…no, I can’t keep it up. It’s definitely no Jaws. But the crew’s discussion of the episode is stellar as always, so grab your mp3 listening device of choice, download the show, and take some time out to…LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS.

  • Listen to the Prophets #23: Invasive Procedures

What happens when Lionel Luthor and Gary Shandling’s wife invade Deep Space Nine during the middle of a freak ion storm? No, I swear this isn’t the setup to a bad joke, it’s the plot to today’s episode Paul Spataro, Andrew Leyland, and Shawn Engel are covering on LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS: A STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE PODCAST. In the episode, “Invasive Procedures” a Trill who was rejected from becoming one of the elite few to be joined to a symbiote decides that he’s entitled to be joined and decides that the Dax slug is the one he wants. Unfortunately, that means Jadzia has to have the Dax symbiote removed, which means certain death for her. It’s a story of privilege gone awry on this latest episode, plus it has a guest appearance by future Voyager star Tim Russ…so Luke Jaconetti will be more inclined to take a listen. So yeah, a 10-20% increase in listenership!!! So why don’t you be like Luke? Download the show…and make some time to Listen to the Prophets.

With Bajor in turmoil and Deep Space Nine under attack by rogue forces, Sisko and the command crew have to play a tactical game of hide an seek on the station to buy time for Kira and Dax to make it to the Bajoran Ministers with info on who is really behind the rebel uprising on the planet. Will the Federation be able to clue the Bajorans in on the Cardassian treachery before the planet is thrown into civil war, or will Nurse Ratchet and Perry White pull out a political coup? Only Paul Spataro, Andrew Leyland, and Shawn Engel will let you know…well, I guess Wikipedia or Netflix would let you know as well, but they won’t give you the humor and insight that these three will. • Listen to the Prophets #21: The Circle

Paul, Andy, and Shawn continue their trek (wow, an overused pun already in the show notes?) through the second season of Star Trek: Deep Space Nine as they take a look at the second episode of the second season, “The Circle”. With political tensions heating up on Bajor, a beliguered Commander Sisko does his best to deal with the removal of Major Kira from her post at DS9, while Kira herself has to deal with feelings of uselessness in her new liason position on the planet. Luckily Vedak Berial is there to “comfort her” in ways only a hunky man of faith can. Plus we get the return of Louise Fletcher as the sardonic Vedak Winn who secretly has backed Minister Jaro in his attempts to take control of the government. But are Jaro’s intentions just, or is he a puppet of the Cardassians? You’ll only be able to find out after you download the show and take some time…to LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS.

  • Listen to the Prophets #20: The Homecoming

After a schedule SNAFU in order to make sure there was some Star Trek talk for the second week last month, LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS is back to it’s regular schedule and ready to dive headlong into the second season of Deep Space Nine with the first part of a trilogy of episodes entitled “The Homecoming”. After Quark gives Kira a mysterious earring that belonged to a famous, and presumed dead, Bajoran war hero, the Major is bound and determined to rescue him from the Cardassian Prison camp where he’s being held in hopes his presence will bring peace and stability back to Bajor. But will the desparate rescue mission succeed, and even then will presumed hero Li Nalis be up to the task of reforming a fractured Bajor? It’s more Star Trek at it’s finest. So don’t wait! • Listen to the Prophets #19: In the Hands of the Prophets

The guys at LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS: A STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE PODCAST wrap up their coverage of Season One with the episode “In the Hands of the Prophets”. Political and religious tensions heat up on the station as Vedek Winn, played perfectly by the amazing Louise Fletcher, visits DS9 to make sure that Bajoran philosophy is being taught in Keiko O’Brien’s school. Of course, it’s not being taught to the extent the wannabe Kai desires, so a religious split between the Bajorans and the Federation is poised to break out, threatening all that Sisko and company have worked for over the past year. It’s our first real look at the devious machinations that will be a centerpiece of the series’ run and a great ending to the one of the best first seasons of Star Trek since the Original Series. Plus, Paul, Andy, and Shawn discuss the season as a whole and give their high and low points (ALAMARAINE!!!). So don’t delay…grab your mp3 listening device of choice, download the show and take some time…to Listen to the Prophets.

  • Listen to the Prophets #18: Duet

On this eighteenth episode of LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS: A STAR TREK DEEP SPACE NINE PODCAST, Andy, Paul, and Shawn talk about “Duet”, hands down one of the BEST episodes of Deep Space Nine, perhaps of all Star Trek, ever produced. When a strange visitor suffering from a disease that only plagued a certain group of people who were prisoners of a Cardassian labor camp arrives at the station, Kira is eager to make sure that he gets the best care possible. However, when she finds out that the visitor is a Cardassian, Kira balks at the idea of helping him, especially when it is found out that the Cardassian is actually Gul Darhe’el, the infamous Butcher of Gallitep, known for his brutal treatment of the Bajoran prisoners. But is his story truthful, or is there more going on than meets the eye. If you can actually sit down and watch this episode and not come away thinking this is some of the best that Star Trek has to offer, I don’t know what to say. So grab your mp3 listening device of choice, download the show, and take some well deserved time…to LISTEN TO THE PROPHETS.
