    Critic Reviews:
"The simple truth is the whole world is 'going wireless.' If you want to discover why it's happening, how it will change your business, and - most important - what you need to do about it, this is the book to read." - Alan M. Webber, founding editor, Fast Company

    Her reading style
Just remember that when this author wants to emphasize something (which is all the time) she ends her sentences... like... this...
After a few hours it drives... me... crazy...
A very lengthy presentation on wireless!!
A lot of work has obviously gone into the researching of this book. Despite the fact that it was published in April 2002, it provides a reasonably up to date account of where the industry /technology currently stands (Nov 2004). It probably will need to be updated fairly soon however. Jaclyn Easton seems to know her subject well, so it is a shame that she makes no serious attempt to offer her view of what the future holds over the medium to longer term. As I listened, I did find myself thinking ahead to what the world of wireless will be like over the next five years or so, but a little conjecture / business vision on her part would have given the book more life. Also some fairly heavy editing would have made it easier to listen to. Lengthy, in-depth descriptions of the functionality of various applications serve to make the book much bigger than it really needs to be, so it didnt hold my interest at all well in parts. My biggest complaint though, was with regards the way that it was read. I seriously question the wisdom of having the author read the book rather than a professional narrator. It is good to hear what an author sounds like, but having her read the introduction and a conclusion would suffice. It sounds as if she is used to writing and reading business presentations. Her reading style would be excellent for making 30 second audio commercials, but doesnt really lend itself well to the reading of a nine and a half hour book. Its as if she is trying to pack every sentence with overwhelming dynamism and excitement. Without any relief from this, the words end up blurring into a nondescript, corporate jargon filled power-spiel. Imagine reading a book where everything is written BOLD UPPER CASE TEXT, OR MAYBE GIANT FLASHING NEON LIGHTS and you'll get the idea. You wouldnt be able to read for too long before your eyes and brain got sore.

Length: 8 hrs and 54 mins

Ratings: 3 of 5 out of 47 votes

    Puff Piece
I hung on for a couple of hours, but eventually gave up on this one. It read like a side-bar profile for Time Magazine put together by SUN pr. It's not that I was looking for a hatchet job, but this was cringingy flattering. I thought that "The Second Coming of Steve Jobs" was a much better example in the same genre.
As other have remarked the sound levels leave something to be desired too.
    Sun PR
I learned very little from this book about the history of Sun or McNealy, other than that they managed to convince the author of this book that they can do no wrong. Unfortunately, events since the books publication suggest otherwise.
    Wrong narrator, great subject material
Not everyone will feel this way, but the narrator ruined this book for me. The subject matter--behind the scenes Silicon Valley tech--was just not made for a very proper-sounding Englishwoman. There are probably not half a dozen techies in the valley who could pronounce "raison d'etre" with a flawless French accent; hearing it in the audiobook just sounded out of place.
Having said that, the material is worth the price of admission for those who are in the industry or just love a good behind-the-scenes business yarn.
    Good stuff
A fascinating look into the making and the politics of Sun Microsystems, probably the number two tech company behind Microsoft. Well written, and seems thoroughly researched. Good narration.
    Needs Updating
This books starts off quite well, but quickly becomes fairly dull. It reads more like a ledger of facts rather than the inside account that it claims to be, there's very little human interest here. But most damning is the book only takes you up to the year 2000, it needs updating.

    Publisher's Summary:
What's been written on the personalities that have emerged from Silicon Valley tends to be shallow, concentrating narrowly on overnight rags-to-riches sensations. This well-received collection of tales by one of the Valley's best journalists, however, gives us a different perspective - that of the technology Mecca's everyman, from dreamers on the brink of success to some of the more obscure colorful characters in the landscape. Po Bronson is the author of two novels, Bombardiers and The First $20 Million Is Always the Hardest, a seething parody about getting rich in the Info Age. Bronson is also a feature writer for Wired and has written about high-tech culture for The New York Times Magazine, The Wall Street Journal, and Forbes A.S.A.P.. In this Audible exclusive recording, the author himself lends his voice to The Nudist on the Late Shift.

"... a book about a dream valley that kept me glued to my seat ...while also leaving me with a deeper sense of the human energy and hubris that fuels America's new entrepreneurial capital, Silicon Valley." (Ken Auletta)

    pretty good!
ok, not a life changer, but there are some real interesting stories here. i listened to it while i was studying a course that covered the history of computing, silicon valley, etc., so this was a real good alternative view of what goes on behind the scenes. well worth a look if you're interested in the topic.
    Horrible recording
Started hearing the book but stopped.
The quality of recording is very bad. Could not continue to hear it.

    An Inspirational Account
This book was a truly interesting read. I was already familiar with some of Deepak Chopraâs books and teachings, but I didnât really know much about his history or his journey. In this book author Dr. Ruth Carr takes you along the journey that is Deepak Chopraâs life. Not only is this book interesting and informative, it is a good reminder of how both our beliefs and our lives can change and evolveâand how each step along the way effects who we are today. The book also highlights many of his accomplishments, and methodologiesâand breaks them down in a simple yet profound manner. A great read to start the new year off right!
    Poorly written
I was disappointed. I felt the book was poorly written and did not describe the person in debth. I didn't know Dr. Chopra any more after I read Dr. Carrs' book than before. I have read most of Deepak Chopra books and enjoyed many of his taped lectures and feel Dr. Carrs' book didn't even scratch the surface of this wise and learned man.
    Modern and natural does work
Mixing Modern techniques and Natural remedies together to make such great things happen. Pretty amazing man to have thought with an open mind to use both. Most people are on one side or the other. Reading this book really made an interesting impact on the way I look at the two. Great find.
I would not recommend this piece of junk to anyone
Rubbish, pure rubbish. I saw absolutely nothing worthwhile or redeeming in this piece of trash.
I would not recommend this piece of junk to anyone. It's a waste of time and money.
    Well written
This book is very well written. This author did a great job giving insights to Deepak Chopra's ideas and reasoning. Great read to anyone in the medical field!
