Inspiring Fiction brings Reality to inspire Courageous Communications
This was my first Jim Clemmer book, but certainly not my last. Jim has created an extremely rare product here: an enjoyable and fun to read motivational and inspirational book about leadership. Since the Excellence series, I could only make it through an article or skim books for this genre, but I could not put this book down! The reader is lured (in a good way) by an interesting story about a decent guy who has climbed pretty high in the corporate ranks, but then begins to wonder if it was all worth it.
I identified with the star of the story right away. Here I was wondering if I was going through a mid-life crisis and thanks to Jim realized it was all me, not my world, not my age, not even my job. It was me who brought on the crisis and it was me who could pull myself out of it and make the world around me a better place.
I can't help but think that Jim must be a big fan of "Its a Wonderful Life" as he uses some of those effects to help us see our own value for what we have done, and our potential to do so much more.
What did I like best? Probably his down-to-earth guidance to have courage. You don't have to be a soldier, policeman, or firefighter to demonstrate courage. You can do that every day at work, home, and in your community. Jim puts some thoughts and feelings we all have into plain language. Have those "courageous communications" but don't have them to complain. Have them to point out a problem (or de-motivator in the workplace), explain why it is a problem, what needs to be done to resolve the problem, then get to it! Jim helps us see the importance of strong follow-up and follow-through.
What did I not like? There is no Moose part 2, 3, 4, and 5! I want more!
Jim - thanks. Your message hit home. I got the message and I'm doing something about my world. I am alive again. Please wait until you are well in your nineties before you even consider retiring.
Five Stars
Jim is such a great author and speaker! All of Jim's books are much reads!
An Eye Opener!
Easy read and very effective in its delivery of the message to the reader on how to identify sacred "moose" and confront them. This book was recommended to me and I have already recommended it to others!
This book was boring as hell
This book was boring as hell. I thought it would be better but it isn't. It made me feel very sad as I got tired of the pity party thrown by the main character. There are way better books out there that get the job done.
Great storytelling and a powerful message
The interesting and colourful title and my knowledge of the author's work immediately drew my interest to this book.
Since the beginning of time storytelling has been one of the most effective and interesting ways to teach and get messages accross. Jim Clemmer uses his many years of practice in the human development field as a rich source of information on what works and doesn't work in personal interactions.
