Life was hard but the people in the books made the best of things and keep going

this is one of the series every women above the age of 12 should read. the entire series builds on the others and shows what hard work, determination, drive and not giving up can doe for someone. Life was hard but the people in the books made the best of things and keep going. Best part is the main characters are females and from book one you watch as they grow and develop in strong women who are still wives, friends, mothers, grandmothers and real people with out selling them self out or giving in. Great book well worth the time to read. Get the whole series, you won't go wrong

Great series, but

the books are written in different styles. The third book is written almost like a play with everything in the present tense. The fourth book, which I just started, is written in the first person. The first two books were written in the style I'm used to reading novels and are written differently from the third and fourth. There's also a gap over several year between books 1 and 2, but books 2, 3 and 4 all follow head to tail where one left off the other picks up pretty much or with just small gaps of time. Other than that I am enjoying the series.

A great series!

I am writing this review on the series as I don't believe they stand alone. That is not a bad thing considering that CE gifted us with the first two insallments of this wonderfully agreeable read. The first I bought as an audio book for a trip I was taking to TN. That almost put me off at first until I started to enjoy the characters as they took form and developed families.

It is clear and to the point without a lot of page filling descriptive rhetoric. Was it accurate? I don't know but the main character in the book was raised in the north by a well to do uncle so she would have been literate and somewhat educated for a woman in her time. There isn't a lot of weighed down conversations to truly consider accurate dialect. What this book lacks for me is emotional introspect. I would have liked it to have personal POVs from all the main characters, or more from Mae Rose. It could have been a 5

I think this would make a wonderful Netflix series, tho I am sure they would need to change it quite a bit for television. I am happy there is a fourth book in the series, and delighted it is in first person.

A must read for ALL historical fiction lovers.

Gripping. Full of well developed and continued characters.

Really Good First Novel

I'm a sucker for a history or novel set in the Viking era. This is one of the better Viking historical novels. This is not the typical cover-to-cover blood and gore story, but has a bit more historical accuracy and balance The story is well developed and the narration was great.

Very much looking forward to the rest of the trilogy.

Longshot From Darkness

This story is filled with historical facts and there is murder, deceitful characters, honorable men, Native American's who were killed for their land and family drama. Bannack MT which is the setting of many of the scenes are; sheriff Henry Plummer, the civil war characters are Irishman Patrick Murphy Confederate solider and Billy Adams a union solider from Wisconsin. Rob Finn an Irishman and a Pinkerton Detective and also Patrick Murphy's brother in law. Rob Finn also has a home in Wisconsin, but through most of the story is in the west on an investigation of gold ore theft. This writer has pulled together a history filled story.

Good reading

I have enjoyed all of the longshot series. They are set during the civil war era but it is about what was also happening alongside the war. Characters are well developed and the story is always interesting.

Darkness

I found this book to be very good. It was realistic for the time period it was about. The main character was portrayed quite well, This is the second book I read by this author. I look forward to reading his other books.

Excellent portrayal of character and morals of the day

This is an excellent story capturing the times and divergent emotions/conditions of war and rampant growth of a large country. Add in the motivation of greed in areas of discovered gold and you find people who lose their moral compass. Rob and many others did not. Great story teller!!

Slightly disappointed at storyline

I throughly enjoyed the story up to the point when it was discovered that Duncan was missing and revealed that he was physically, emotionally and sexually abused. Didnt expect the story to take that turn and didnt like the detail and I actually fast forward over those parts. I only finished the book because of the narrator.

I will be careful to purchase another book from same author but will love to listen to narrator again. Loved her performance.

The Woman in the Woods

First book I have read/listened to by this author and am hooked. loved it from start to finish and was actually sad when it finished.

Definitely hooked and will be reading more and iwill be watching for new ones. Narration was excellent

Incredible Story!

Where does Bohemian Gospel rank among all the audiobooks youve listened to so far?

I have not enjoyed reading a book as much as Bohemian Gospel! I am so very happy it is on Audible now. The story is engaging, the history is engaging! I looked forward to the second book in the series and was not disappointed. Can't wait for the release on audible!

Mouse is my favorite, of course. Her story is incredible. She is heroic and a solid character.

The mysteries in this book are cleverly woven and not easy to solve (I actually gasped in shock a few ...

As soon as I saw the gorgeous cover for this book, I knew I HAD to read it (it also didn't hurt that I adored Kristy's previous release, The Ringmaster's Wife).

Kristy does an outstanding job bringing the mysterious back halls of vaudeville and the Jazz Age to vibrant life in this book.

We begin the book knowing very little about Wren Lockhart, but as the story unfolds, we're giving glimpses and the defining moments of her life... and little is as it seems. The mysteries in this book are cleverly woven and not easy to solve (I actually gasped in shock a few times as I read). Elliot is the best of heroes and I loved getting to know his character and see his character grow as the story progressed. Wren is the true heroine of this beautiful story though and her story is truly wonderful.

I highly recommend this book!

Do Your Duty, Like It Or Not

This is definitely a Wade Everett book written by Will Cook, as he is the best when it comes to the cavalry story. Lieutenant Linus McCaffey believed in doing your duty, like it or not. But when the assignment was something he didn't like, he looked at it as only Temporary Duty--something which would soon be over--and then you moved on to a new task. His new bride however wasn't so sure....This novel leaves the reader with some powerful images of life on the raw frontier of 1864 Arizona, and just how lawless and ruthless men can be to get their way. And how it takes a man with uncomprising courage and character to stand up against the spoilers of progress and law. Wade Everett, Will Cook westerns never disappoint, this one sure doesn't.

A Spectacular Sequel

I think the voice actor is really well-suited for Graudin's work. She can read the purple work with a poetic lilt without it feeling like an overenthusiastic community theater actor reading Shakespeare.

The world is as intricate and well-thoughtout as the first, clearly using logic to envision this other reality. I loved watching the characters react to new situations now that they know what is actually happening.

Seeing Luka come to terms with who he is, both his feelings for Yael and his cowardice of the consequences of realizing the truth of the Holocaust was very emotional and written gorgeously.

When Luka admits that he could have joined the resistance if he tried hard enough was so harsh because he didn't want to lose his privilege and he didn't want to put himself in danger. I loved how relatable Luka became, and that he realized you can always change for the better. His new resolve was lovely to read.

I loved seeing Yael forced to face the fact that she killed a man, and the wrong man at that. Her character went through so much in the first book, and I'm glad we got to see her grow even more in the second. Her reunion with Miriam was absolutely amazing; I was so happy that Yael finally had something good happen to her.

I really liked Miriam's character and her story. Being able to compare how they both created lives for themselves outside of the concentration camps was really cool. Miriam's character still felt true to what Yael told us about her from all those years ago, so that was really well-written that she seemed like the same person, just changed a bit due to the circumstances.

I wish we could have understood Adele a bit more, but she's just not a very bit character herself, even though she affects the story quite a bit.

I was so mad Felix never even thought for a second that he could have been hearing skin-shifters and not his parents until a really long time. And he still chose to betray the resistance.
