Der Mord an Walter Lübcke und der Anschlag in Hanau haben weit über Hessen hinaus Entsetzen und Betroffenheit ausgelöst. Immer wieder kamen die Fragen auf, wo die Anfänge rechter Gewalt in der Bundesrepublik liegen und wie sich vermeintliche Einzeltäter und Netzwerke entwickeln konnten. Im Gespräch mit Moderator Stefan Schröder zeichnen die Autorin Yvonne Weyrauch und der Autor Sascha Schmidt die Entwicklungen der rechtsextremen Szene in Hessen nach, untersuchen Strukturen und klären über Irrtümer auf.
Demokratie als Einheit in Vielheit begreifen, dafür plädiert der Autor und Historiker Till van Rahden. Im Gespräch mit Moderatorin Dors Renck blickt er zurück auf historische Definition von Demokratie und fragt, welche Lehren wir daraus für unsere Gegenwart ziehen können. Bedeutet Demokratie mehr als Wahlen und wodurch wird eine demokratische Gesellschaft bedroht? Diese und weitere Fragen erläutert Till van Rahden in seinen Ausführungen.
Angeregt durch die Impulse aus dem Publikum geht er auf die Bedeutung der individuellen Freiheit und die Möglichkeiten, das demokratische Zusammenleben im Alltag zu stärken, ein.

Was macht Hessen aus? Diese Frage ist nicht leicht zu beantworten. Moderatorin Mechthild Harting und die beiden Autoren Stefan Schröder und Hans Sarkowicz wagen sich aber dennoch an den Versuch und beleuchten in ihrem Gespräch die Vielfalt des Landes von Nord bis Süd, von Ost bis West. Spione und Geheimagenten erfreuen sich nicht erst seit James Bond einer großen Beliebtheit. Frauen kamen in den Geschichten und Filmen eher als Statistinnen am Rande vor. Das kann doch nicht sein, haben sich die Autorin Ann-Katrin Müller und Autor Maik Baumgärtner gesagt und sich auf Recherche begeben. Vom Kaiserreich bis in die Gegenwart haben sie Spuren von Geheimagentinnen aufgenommen und sind dem Weg der wagemutigen Frauen, die sich nicht an die Konventionen ihrer Zeit gehalten haben, nachgegangen. Ihre Ergebnisse ihrer Forschung stellen sie im Gespräch mit Moderator Robert Wolff vor.

Literatur und Politik LIVE: Künstliche Intelligenz (KI) ist in aller Munde – die einen verteufeln sie, die anderen loben ihre Potenziale. Autorin Manuela Lenzen und Moderator Stephan Hübner diskutieren in dieser Folge Möglichkeiten und Grenzen der Künstlichen Intelligenz und blicken zurück auf die Anfänge der KI-Forschung. Sie fragen nach ihren wichtigsten Einsatzmöglichkeiten und erläutern bereits eingetretene oder anstehende Folgen. Wie genau ist Intelligenz eigentlich definiert und können Maschinen Emotionen empfinden? Manuela Lenzen erklärt Grundbegriffe und beantwortet Fragen aus dem Publikum.

Literatur und Politik LIVE: Wie entsteht eigentlich ein Buch? Am Beispiel von „Hessen im 20. Jahrhundert. Eine politische Geschichte“ gehen Verleger Lothar Wekel und Moderator Stefan Schröder den Weg von der Idee bis zum gedruckten Werk nach und erläutern die einzelnen Schritte sowie die Veränderungen, die durch dem Angriff Russlands auf die Ukraine entstanden sind. Was macht eine Lektorin, ein Lektor und welchen Einfluss hat künstliche Intelligent auf den Buchmarkt? Diese und weitere Fragen diskutiert Lothar Wekel mit Stefan Schröder und beiden stellen sich den Fragen des Publikums.

Von der ersten deutschen Ballonfahrerin Wilhelmine Reichard bis hin zu politischen Aktivistinnen wie der nordamerikanischen Indigenen Zitkala-Ša – viele Frauen sind von der Geschichtsschreibung bisher unentdeckt geblieben. Sie haben aber dennoch ihre Zeit geprägt und mitgestaltet. Im Gespräch setzen sich die Moderatorin Sabine Königs und die Historikerin Barbara Beck mit mutigen, tragischen und inspirierenden Frauen der vergangenen drei Jahrhunderte auseinander und fragen, auf welche Weise es den Frauen gelang, ihren normativ und gesellschaftlich eng geschnürten Käfig auf dem Weg zur Berühmtheit zu durchbrechen.
Zeit ist bekanntlich Geld. Aber gilt das umgekehrt auch so? In dieser Folge begeben sich Moderatorin Doris Renck und Autor Sebastian Teupe in das Reich des Geldes, und begegnen dem deutschen Trauma der Hyperinflation im Jahr 1923. Wie konnte es erst überhaupt so weit kommen? Sie gehen gemeinsam auf Spurensuche, um die historische Verantwortung von Gesellschaft, Wirtschaft und Politik in der Weichenstellung dieses Jahrhundertereignisses zu beleuchten. Mit ihren Schlussfolgerungen bieten sie Antworten auf Fragen der Zeitgeschichte, bilden aber auch wichtige Bezüge zur von Krieg und Inflation geprägten Gegenwart.
In der Podcast-Folge setzen Moderatorin Esther Schapira und Autor Prof. Dr. Peter Longerich zum Verständnis des Antisemitismus bei einer historischen Analyse an und verfolgen die Spuren des Judenhasses bis in das Zeitalter der Aufklärung zurück. Wie lassen sich die unterschiedlichen Erscheinungsformen in verschiedenen historischen Epochen erklären? Im Gespräch gehen Schapira und Longerich auch den Fragen nach, welche Funktion Antisemitismus für die nationale Identität haben kann, welche Parallelen es zu heutigen Erscheinungsformen gibt und warum der Blick zurück für das Verständnis von heute so wichtig ist.
Demokratie lebt vom Mitmachen, aber warum gehört auch Streit dazu? Was machen eigentlich Abgeordnete und welche Rechte haben Kinder und Jugendliche? Moderatorin Mechthild Harting und Autorin Christine Schulz-Reiss widmen sich diesen Fragen und wollen so Appetit machen, sich mit politischen Themen und Strukturen auseinanderzusetzen.
