    The story of Pikelet is the story of invention, of music becoming activism. Growing out of Melbourne’s folk revival scene, Pikelet was characterized by looping structures and sonic experiments. In 2014, Morris co-founded LISTEN, a feminist organization that promotes the visibility and experiences of marginalized peoples in Australian music. Morris has allowed their own politics and non-binary identity to challenge and stretch their pop gifts. With the release of the last Pikelet album in 2016, Morris was described as one of Australia’s “most fascinating and underrated musical icons.”

    Puro Instinct performed live at dublab during the Spring 2014 Proton Drive. This set gets as dreamy as it can get, with full on pads that take you to a far away island off the coast of Spain. Last time I checked Puro Instinct seems to be almost finished with a new record, some are probably included in this performance, for sure one to never forget.

    FROM THE VAULTS: J Rocc live at the Root Down

    This live mix from J Rocc, Beat Junkies founder, DJ, and producer was recorded at the world famous Root Down party that happened every week in LA during the late ’90s and early ’00s. DJs like Loslito, Miles, Cut Chemist, DJ Dusk, Peanut Butter Wolf, and others could be heard spinning the best in hip-hop, funk, soul, roots, jazz and latin music. During its lifespan, the club drew indie hip-hop groups, funk bands, conscious MCs and athletic turn turntablists from around the state, and was an authentic piece of LAs local culture for nearly a decade.
