In the first episode of Season Two (Episode #014) of the Live the More podcast, CEO of Austin Street Center Daniel Roby shares why we need the weak who live among us and how we can care for those facing homelessness.
Daniel Roby has been the CEO of Austin Street Center for nearly six years; he believes the most vulnerable members of our city should have access to their basic needs despite the limitation of their resources. Austin Street Center is a homeless shelter in the heart of Dallas, TX, where several hundred people shelter every night. What makes this shelter truly unique is its holistic approach to homelessness. They boast a mental health clinic and are connected with ~150 housing units, helping their temporary residents find longer-term housing. And with a chapel onsite hosting three services a day, Austin Street Center also provides spiritual care for some of the weakest, most vulnerable people on the Dallas city streets.
Check out this week’s episode to hear more of Daniel's story, how Austin Street Center is helping transform lives in Dallas, TX, and learn more of what you can do in your city to care for the weak among us.

What does it mean to live on mission? Trey Shaw has spent nearly two decades in Hungary serving as a church planter and missionary. But he didn’t always want to be a missionary and maintains a much broader view of what it means to "live missionally," wherever that may be in the world.
“I’m a missionary, but that’s a role—there’s no difference in quality between a missionary and someone who is not,” Trey told us in Episode #013. “We all have a role in the Kingdom; if you work at a Fortune 500 company in the city, then you take it with you and you live it out. It’s all God’s business.”
Take a listen to this week’s episode to see how humility intersects with the ordinary to create something truly extraordinary in the Kingdom of God.

Everyone cared for, no one alone.
That’s the vision Mark and Jenn Mayhew have for their COVID-19 community care initiative in South London. They live in a multicultural neighborhood comprised of roughly 15,000 people. And like so many places in the UK, when the Coronavirus hit the people in their area —especially older, isolated individuals—it left the community reeling.
Their response is to empower each street in the neighborhood to decide how they can best care for their neighbors in crisis. Though the Mayhews admit their grassroots effort is a messy, decentralized system, the results are difficult to argue with:
· Regular food collections from every street to aid Food Banks
· Delivery of food parcels to neighbors over 60 years old
· Collecting toys and equipment for babies and children up to the age of five
· Providing Critical Care teams from a local hospital and hospice care workers with snacks and treats, and items for their noticeboards
As you listen to Episode #011 of the Live the More podcast, we hope you get a much-need dose of hope and inspiration for your day. And we hope that you, too can find ways to follow the Mayhew’s lead in your neighborhood. The community initiative website we mention in the episode has loads of free resources, so get dreaming, get started, and experience the joy of very simply loving your neighbor.

How can we use creativity to cultivate more openness and overcome challenges? We sat down with Maya and Patrick Laurent from the Laurent Collective to discuss how creativity can help us during the COVID-19 crisis and we came up with a few creative tips for relieving stress.
In times of survival, it seems like creativity is one of the first things to go. “I’m just trying to make it,” we tell ourselves, “I don’t have time to exercise my creative side.”
Yet, being creative is part of what makes us innately human. After all, we were made in the image of the Creator God who engineered the world, dreamed up all living creatures, and painted the Earth with countless colors. God imagined, dreamed, spoke, and so it was. What does that say about who WE are?
Be sure to check out Episode #010 of the Live the More podcast to learn how you can naturally and enjoyably create during this crisis.
The Laurent Collective is a bold, creative family business that wants to inspire you to flex your creative muscles!

Dr. Joey Dodson helps us explore what the Apostle Paul says about our identity and self-worth. When we read the letters of Paul, we can sometimes come away with conflicting ideas about who we are as followers of Jesus. "I’m a saint. I’m a sinner. I’m a wretch. I’m beloved." So, which is it? Is it both? How do we begin sorting this out?
In our cultural moment, the voices which validate our self-worth and ascribe value to “who we are” have never been louder! Whether it’s wearing a “not-sorry” necklace or following the “me-first” mantra, millions of people are finding that validating and shoring up their self-worth is integral to living fully alive.
For those of us who follow Jesus and read Paul, here’s the rub: can we validate our own self-worth AND “take up our cross” to follow Jesus? Who does Paul, this pillar of the church, say we truly are and how do we follow the path of Jesus?
In Episode #006, Dr. Joey Dodson directs us to not only the right answers, but the proper starting point for our questions. Be sure to click HERE to get a FREE exercise that will help you reflect upon what God says about who He is and who you are.
SHOW NOTES:
0:00 - 31:00 -- Intro. and Christian Identity in Paul
31:00 - 58:00 -- Romans 7, normative Christian living, interpretative options, implications
