Alison Anthony, president and CEO of the Tulsa Area United Way, interviews Marla Bradshaw, recipient of the Clydella Hentschel Women in Leadership award. It is given each year by the Tulsa Area United Way’s Women United Group. It is named in honor of Clydella Hentschel, who was a pioneer for women in our community. She and her husband, Dave, were the first husband and wife team to chair our United Way campaign. So it is truly appropriate that the Women United Clydella Hentschel award goes to Marla Bradshaw.
Marla Bradshaw is a committed community volunteer representing the spirit of the Clydella Hentschel Award for Women in Leadership.
Over the years, Marla has demonstrated exceptional leadership and mentoring that has inspired and helped other women to reach their full potential.
She devotes time and energy to many United Way agencies, in addition to several organizations outside the United Way umbrella that have a mission of supporting at-risk and underserved individuals.
Marla co-chaired the Tocqueville Society for United Way in 2010 when we launched the “Step-Up” program and in 2016, she and Steve co-chaired the United Way campaign, raising over $26 million.
Marla’s philanthropic work extends far beyond fundraising and serving on boards.
Earlier this year, year she volunteered at the Tulsa Health Department’s COVID-19 vaccination clinic for 14 weeks, assisting in efforts to boost vaccination rates in the Tulsa area.

This is the weekly Live United podcast presented by the nonprofit Tulsa Area United Way. I’m Matthew Gleason.
You can get involved by going to tauw.org/winter volunteer. And that link will take you directly to the full list of all of the opportunities. And some of them are going on right now. Some of them are continuing through December and even into the new year, there are still going to be needs that we'll be highlighting.
Our guests today are Angela Tollett, executive director of Wagoner Area Neighbors, and Brian Young, of Youth Services of Tulsa. I love both of their stories because Angela and Brian deeply understand how much it means to someone, especially a child or teenager, when someone takes the time to brighten their holiday with, of course, a gift, but also a reminder that they are aren’t alone and that someone really cares about them.
So with that, I want to thank you for listening today and please share this episode on your social media channels.
This podcast is dedicated to the amazing 2021 Tulsa Area United Way Loaned Executives and Campaign Fellows. We simply could not have strengthened Tulsa area's social safety net without you working on the frontlines to raise more than $25 million.

On today's episode we celebrate Veterans Day with Joshua Starks and Rachel Runfola, two veterans who are making a difference in the lives of their fellow veterans.
Rachel is with Community Service Council, which is a proud Tulsa Area United Way partner agency. She oversees Community Service Council’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) is a rapid rehousing program funded by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs Supportive Service for Veteran Families (SSVF) grant. Formerly known as BRRX4VETS, SSVF uses the Housing First model to provide temporary intervention and short-term assistance to very low-income veteran families who are homeless or facing eviction.
Jane Mudgett, our guest host for today, interviews her longtime friend Alex Eaton, president and owner of World Travel Service.
A Tulsa Area United Way workplace campaign unites employees in all offices or branches of a company, and gives them an opportunity to donate, volunteer and speak out for causes that matter to them. Build a stronger workplace while you contribute to building a stronger community.
Thank you to all of our companies who ran a campaign for the first time ever this year. Visit tauw.org/campaigns to join them and start #LivingUnited!
From the nonprofit Tulsa Area United Way, this is the weekly Live United podcasts. Our guest is Darius Kirk, who serves as executive director of KIPP Tulsa Public Charter Schools, which is a proud Tulsa Area United Way partner agency.
So together with families and communities, KIPP Tulsa identifies Tulsa Public Schools students who are least likely to earn a college degree, and then provides the college preparatory education and support required to earn one. And so that means offering reading and math intervention and homework support. It also means extracurricular activities, including athletics, robotics and, of course, the renowned KIPP Tulsa Drum Line.
In addition, KIPP is providing robust support for social, emotional learning and an identity-affirming and culturally relevant learning environment for the more than 90% of students who identify as Black or Latinx.
