“Biblical interpretations”

Every major religion has sacred text that are the foundation of their faith. And each has a set understanding of how to interpret the text.

However Christians often choose a single interpretation for the entire Bible, when the Bible is a collection of different types of books that require different interpretations.

Every interpretation is needed to understand the Bible completely.

Literal interpretations are often questioned in the modern day because they conflict with modern science but their role in our faith is no less important.

A literal reading of Jonah still reveals the character of God as relational, powerful, and merciful even if the actions of God have questionable credibility in the face of science.

“All The Feels”

It’s a common misconception that Christians are supposed to always be positive, often at the expense of ourselves.

However this is not what Christ called us to do. As humans we experience emotions and use to them to better understand our environment.

God has the same emotions that we do ,so when Jesus wept he revealed the importance of expressing our emotions and allowing them to exist without them controlling our actions.

Our emotions are valid but our responses are not always as valid. Emotions should start our investigation but should not be the conclusion.

“DO GOOD”

Often we have the misconception that a good person is good to those that are good to them, but sadly that’s too easy.

Doing Good requires us to be good to our enemies too. Doing good is not just for them but for ourselves.

Doing good creates a space for good to be done in our life. By restricting goodness ,even from our enemy, we restrict goodness from ourselves.

“Full of Faith”

Faith is the cornerstone of relationship with God but for many we start off small

That’s ok! Small faith is necessary for the start of our faith walk. Faith will fluctuate but we can never let go of our faith in God or in ourselves.

In all of God wisdom, God chose this version of us to exist. This shows God had faith in us to accomplish our goals. If only we would have the same faith in ourselves that God has in us.

This past week (4/17-4/21/23) had 4 different instances of neighbors shooting neighbors over small incidents.

This can cause many to waiver in their fulfillment of “Loving thy neighbor” but it is in the face of these moments that we should double down.

Humans need love and connection. Multiple philosophies around the world present the idea that identity and purpose is found in community.

To do this we must practice Storge love, or familiar love. This is the foundational love that unites over small similarities. By practicing Storge daily we counter these instances of neighborly violence.

“Kids Of the Kingdom”

Kids historically have been seen as miniature adults and have only recently in the last century been given the space they need to develop correctly.

Childhood is a sacred time that teaches us how to trust higher powers. Christ calls us to have a childlike faith. This can be supported early by providing kids with a safe and supportive childhood.

Discipline is diverse. Discipline should match the action not be a blanket punishment. Punishment as education is abuse. Christ never hit his disciples showing that discipline does not necessitate violence

The role of a kid is to be a kid. Their job is not to fix our problems or fulfill our dreams but instead it is our job as adults to help solve their problems and support their dreams.

Easter is easily the most Christian holiday in tthe christian faith. Easter gives our faith a reason to believe.

Despite this Easter is still filled with a lot of confusion.

First the eggs are meant to represent the rebirth that Christ provides

Second the date of Easter changes in relation to Passover. This is meant to remind us of the unpredictable nature of Gods blessings but also assure us of Gods constant company.

God may not come when you want em but you can trust God will always come through

Communion is one of the most commonly performed ceremonies in the Christian faith but many believers don’t know the meaning behind the act.

Communion is meant to unite the community of Christ through the memory of Christ sacrifice.

The bread I’m communion represents the diverse body of Christ brought together through his sacrifice

The wine represents the blood which restores the relationships of the community.

The role of women in society has always been restricted especially by the church.

Christ however liberates women to live the lives that THEY choose not what’s chosen for them.

Martha is a women who chooses to stay in the home and support her community that way

While Mary is a women who chooses to leave the home to support her community that way.

Both women are necessary for the kingdom of God and both are blessed in their choices.

Women (or non gendered fems) that choose to serve God are blessed in their choices to be free from gender norms.

We start this month talking about Eve, the original “worst women”

Eve is often blamed for sin entering the world despite the fact that her first words are a rebuke against the serpent(while Adam stands around saying nothing)

The continued vilification of Eve is used to justify sexism, objectification and violence towards around the world.

By realizing that Christ sacrifice liberates Eve (and all women) from sin and the oppression of men, we can begin to view women as equals and see the role of gender is to counter and be apart of humanities expression
