What is repentance? Is it necessary for salvation?

The grace of God through Christ came to the Jews and then to the Samaritans. Now, to the shock and surprise of the church, grace was extended even to Gentiles.

The first followers of Jesus were all Jewish. They believed that Gentiles could be saved but only by first becoming Jews. But with the conversion of Cornelius and his household God made it clear that Gentiles as Gentiles also were welcome through faith in Christ.

In the Old Testament the division between Jew and Gentile was sharp but God's intent for the church was for Jews and Gentiles to be one in Christ. To begin the process of making them one God gave both Peter and Cornelius visions that led to the conversion of Cornelius, his family and his friends.

Peter follows Jesus example in healing a bed-ridden man and raising a woman from the dead. As a result many to faith.
