It doesn’t take long to feel overwhelmed at life. Sometimes we balance on the ragged edge between functioning and sanity. This weekend we began the new year by looking at a time when the needs around them overwhelmed Jesus and the disciples. They encountered too much need and too little supply. Sound familiar? However, nothing ultimately overwhelms God. We looked at the famous story of the loaves and the fishes as we challenge ourselves to commit to creating capacity in our lives so as to bless the world and bring glory to God. "The Christmas countdown is on! When the child was born, there was a celebration of heaven that touched earth! In Luke 2:13-14, it reads: Suddenly a great company of the heavenly host appeared with the angel, praising God and saying, "Glory to God in the highest heaven, and on earth peace to those on whom his favor rests." This weekend we concluded our series on intentional living for God's glory. We finished by looking at how we can create a personal growth plan that will help us focus our time and efforts for maximum fruitfulness. We looked at our "fences," our "foundations," and then our "focus." Paul said, he ran to win the prize, not without a goal, but with a purpose. This weekend we continued our series on intentional living by looking at the last of the capacity killing thorns: an unholy relationship with pleasure. The earth is filled with opportunities for pleasure but yet the wrong pursuit of pleasure has caused more pain, heartache, wounding, addiction, family breakup, economic hardship, the breaking of the human spirit than any other thing. Together we uncovered God’s principles of pleasure. He not only wants us to experience pleasure, after all, he gave us emotions, feelings, he wants the pleasures we experience to leave us richer not poorer for the experience and beyond that he wants us to experience pleasure that lasts, even into our forever. This weekend, we continued our series on intentionality – living intentional lives for God's glory. We must stay connected to God's dreams. If our day to day lives are disconnected from God’s story of redemption and where we fit in, we will live wasted lives. God desires that we live with a vision and mission, in the forefront of our minds when we live each day. It becomes too easy to have our life’s direction and goals misdirected by the cares of this world and deceitfulness of riches. Wake up – go to work – pay the bills, repeat. Is that the extent of your life? When our dreams replace God’s dreams, our money will naturally gravitate to building our temporal fiefdom rather than God’s eternal kingdom. This weekend we continued our series of living intentional lives. If our purpose is to live out our lives for God and his dreams, then we can know that whatever we were meant to be moves us in those directions. We don’t have to fear missing out, we don’t have to worry about wasting our lives, we can live joyfully knowing at the end of our days we will hear “Well done.” There are kingdom capacity killers, however, that have the power to divert our time, energy, mental, and financial resources into unproductive and counterproductive pursuits. Jesus shared a parable of the soils to illustrate how God’s powerful seed of the Word of God can be choked out through an over-emphasis on worries, riches, and pleasures of this world. This week we launched into a new series designed to equip God's people to live fruitful lives. Christianity is not a spectator sport and God uses people to accomplish his goals. He designed us as co-laborers and co-rulers with him to help bring redemption to this fallen world. One of the greatest hindrances to living out our calling is passivity. Too many lives are marked with "whatever" attitudes. They find themselves tossed by the winds of culture instead of living intentional lives. This weekend we finished our series focusing on our role in the global great commission. All Christians have a place in God's global redemption story. We explored this generation's challenges regarding missions and look into how we can play our part. God uses people, power and provision to accomplish His will in this world. This weekend we continued our missions convention by hosting one of our foreign workers Mike C. He and his family have served in war-torn and disaster-ridden areas around the world. He currently is helping to plant a church in Bregenz, Germany. Living Hope has partnered financially with this church. Mike is a leading expert in the area of humanitarian diplomacy (= negotiating with war groups, governments, and civilian populations in times of conflict and disaster). Having earned a Ph.D. from the Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen (Netherlands), his teaching of future diplomats and consulting governments and organizations opens unprecedented doors to restricted governments, royal families, companies, conferences, and universities.
