What happens when your body forces you to slow down? In this episode of Living in the Spirit, I reflect on a recent bout with the flu that left me in bed for several days with weakness, dizziness, nausea, and coughing. That experience became a powerful reminder that without our health, our ability to live fully and fulfill our purpose is greatly impacted.

This conversation explores why caring for our bodies is a spiritual responsibility. Scripture teaches that our bodies are the temple of God’s Spirit, and honoring that temple means making choices that support our well-being—eating well, exercising, resting, and letting go of unhealthy habits. God desires that we prosper and be in good health, even as our souls prosper.

Join me as we talk about living life to the fullest by valuing the gift of health and truly living in the Spirit.

Brenda Denson, one of the five original founders of In the Spirit Christian Church (2007) and former pastor of Pine Street Christian Church, a historic Black congregation that has served Tulsa for over 100 years and faithfully endured in the aftermath of the 1921 Tulsa Race Massacre.

Rev. Denson reflects on her spiritual formation at Higher Dimensions Family Church under Bishop Carlton Pearson, the obedience and courage required to help birth In the Spirit Christian Church, and the responsibility of shepherding a congregation rooted in resilience, memory, and hope. Together, they explore what the Spirit is saying to the Church today—and what it truly means to live in the Spirit, then and now.
