EPISODE 308 - Sara Johnson - Crime Series, New Zealand and How Your Teeth Can Lead You Home
Sara E. Johnson is a mystery writer who spent nine months exploring wondrous New Zealand. Everywhere she snooped, there was a mystery that needed writing. The Bone Riddle, Sara’s fourth novel in the Alexa Glock Forensic Mysteries, was published in June, 2023. The first three mysteries in the series are, in order of publication, Molten Mud Murder, The Bones Remember, and The Bone Track. Sara’s publisher is Poisoned Pen Press/Sourcebooks.

Shark cage diving, featured in her second book The Bones Remember, is the topic of her article in the CrimeReads website. Take a look at Adventures in Shark Cage Diving!
She has a BA in Journalism and an MA in Education from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.
Sara lives in Durham, North Carolina with her husband. Sara is a graduate of the Durham Citizen Police Academy. She is the past President of Triangle Sisters in Crime and a member of the North Carolina Writers’ Network.

EPISODE 307 - Jason Pchajek - Canadian Author - A Climate Fiction Novel - Bounty
It's strange. I've spent years writing about other people, whether it be in my work as an academic, writing about the experiences of gamblers, my life as a sports reporter and editor at a small newspaper, writing about the lives and work of athletes and those around them, or even my fiction writing career, creating people and worlds from whole cloth. Almost a decade spending my time writing about people, but writing about myself remains elusive.
Jason Pchajek (Pay-Jack) is a Canadian author from Winnipeg, Manitoba. With a deep interest in climate, biotechnology, human enhancement, inequality, and the future of our species, delving into the realm of "Cli-fi" with his debut novel Bounty was a natural first step in his writing career.
Receiving his Master's degree in Sociology from the University of Manitoba in 2020, Jason has spent much of the last decade studying a variety of topics, while gaining experience working as an academic, journalist, radio host, hockey play-by-play announcer, and corporate researcher.
When not working on his next project, Jason spends his time reading, playing video games, or prepping for his next DnD session. He is a member of the Manitoba Writer's Guild, a voter for the Aurora Awards, staff writer for the UWPG Film Festival, and published academic.
You can follow Jason on Twitter at @JasonPchajek and Instagram at @JasonPchajek. He regularly posts news updates, articles, and review to the site blog, and you can sign up to never miss a post!
What I do know for certain, though, is this: My entire life I've wanted to be an author.

EPISODE 306 - Gerry Wilson - That Pinson Girl - Historical Fiction and a class on Writing Your Story
A seventh generation Mississippian, Gerry Wilson grew up in the red clay hills of the north. Her novel, THAT PINSON GIRL, is forthcoming from Regal House Publishing February 6, 2024. Her debut short fiction collection, Crosscurrents and Other Stories (Press 53 2015), was nominated for the Mississippi Institute of Arts and Letters Fiction Award. A story, “Life Line,” was a finalist in december magazine’s Curt Johnson Prose Award for Fiction and was published in december in the spring of 2023. Her short fiction has been published in numerous other journals.
Gerry has a new Substack publication, “Stories I’m Old Enough to Tell,” where she writes about her journey to publication and reveals tidbits about That Pinson Girl you won’t find anywhere else!
A literary novel that resonates with issues of race and class, THAT PINSON GIRL pits a white teenage mother and a biracial sharecropper against prejudice and hatred in Mississippi during World War I.
“That Pinson Girl is a beautiful novel about the destructive power of dark secrets. Gerry Wilson’s prose shines as she breathes life into her characters and into the north Mississippi landscape.” — Tiffany Quay Tyson, award-winning author of The Past is Never and Three Rivers
“Devastating and beautifully written, Gerry Wilson’s That Pinson Girl is at once a heart-rending tragedy and a testament to the indomitable human spirit.” — Clifford Garstang, author of Oliver’s Travels and The Shaman of Turtle Valley.
“In Gerry Wilson’s gripping debut novel, 1918 in North Mississippi becomes tangible again; here are the red hills, the suck of winter mud, the scrabble of subsistence living, and the intricately crossed lines of race and kin.” — Katy Simpson Smith, author of The Everlasting, Free Men, The Story of Land and Sea.

EPISODE 305 - Keri Cooper - Mental Health Uncensored for Adults and Youth - Take Real Steps Forward
In this episode Keri Cooper, author of “Mental Health Uncensored: 10 Foundations Every Parent Needs to Know” tells us about her book and how it helps people build a foundation for mental health. She also shares with us how she took a private practice and converted it into a thriving business.
Many teens today lack the coping skills that are necessary to address life’s ups and downs. They often feel disconnected emotionally, and are unable to handle stress, peer and relationship issues, or the school, college, or work environment.
When a teen is struggling with academics, they receive tutoring or support to develop the skills they need to succeed. Emotional health is no different. Teens need tools to help them regulate their emotions, develop connections with others, and create a healthy, well-rounded lifestyle.
I take an integrated, solution-focused approach to working with adolescents and young adults who are dealing with stress, anxiety, depression, and ADHD. I treat the whole person, not just their symptoms, with the goal of giving them the tools they need to manage whatever comes their way – now and for the rest of their lives.
Holding multiple state licenses, I work in-person with local clients in my Ramsey office, as well as remotely with clients outside of the Bergen County, New Jersey area, and those located in Pennsylvania, Florida, and South Carolina.

EPISODE 304 - E. Vernon F. Glenn - Let Life Stick To You, From Lawyer to Author, Share Your Story
E. Vernon F. Glenn is a trial lawyer, crime writer, and founder of Cooper River Books. Knowing he was in it for the long haul while embarking on his writing journey, he decided to create an imprint of his own to carry his work. Cooper River Books came to him while hiking up the iconic LowCountry ‘mountain’, the Ravenel Bridge and the views are just some of the best around.
A native Tar Heel, Glenn was educated not only at Choate, UNC-Chapel Hill, and Wake Forest University School of Law, but also by digging deep ditches, running a jackhammer, and hauling block and bricks every summer to the tune of starting at 60 cents an hour. Glenn has been a practicing litigator for more than 40 years and adores the courtroom, as well as Southern people. He does not like fakes, frauds, pedants, poseurs, and better-thans. Comfortable in the cocoons of luxury and in the back alleys of slums, he has never started a fight, but has finished plenty. Glenn has scouted and handicapped football and basketball games, has testified before Congress, and has traveled all about. This story has been flailing about in his mind for years, so one day about a year ago, he sat down and began to write it. Like becoming a trial lawyer, it just spontaneously poured out. He thinks there is much more to say. Glenn now lives in Charleston, South Carolina, and too has a perch in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, in the beautiful old R.J. Reynolds Tobacco Company Headquarters Building. Also, it would be fair to say that he finds his way back to Chapel Hill on a happy and regular basis. He stays busy.

EPISODE 303 - KT Carlisle - From the Bucolic Vermont, From Her First Pen to Her Murder Mystery Trilogy
When the Williamsburg Police Department arrives at Catheryn "Cat" Clark's house on the night of Friday, May 13th to discover her drunk and covered in blood, even she struggles to believe in her own innocence. After all, few people had better reason to want Elaine Reid dead than the woman whose husband she stole after thirty years of friendship.
But as the alcohol-induced fog begins to fade, strange questions surrounding the night's events start to emerge. Who else was at the house the night that Elaine was murdered? Why can't Cat remember anything more than the argument that transpired in the darkened confines of her kitchen? And what might a neighbor's suicide from her college years have to do with proving Cat's innocence? As Cat fights to piece together the puzzle of what happened, Detective Rachel McGowen's fifteen-year hunt for an elusive killer could hold all the answers.
Reasonable is the first in a three-part series that explores just how far one might go to clear their name and protect their loved ones. A fast-paced thrill ride packed with suspense, this enthralling tale of two women’s determination will keep you guessing until the very end.

EPISODE 302 - Ross Hightower and Deb Heim - Partners and Co-Authors - How To Write A Great Promo Hook, Padverb, Fantasy Series
Somehow, after spending most of his life in the south, Ross found himself living in Milwaukee and loving it. One cold, snowy morning, not too long ago, he woke with a story stuck in his head. That wasn’t unusual, but what happened next was unprecedented. He wrote it down. That small story grew into his first novel, Spirit Sight.
While he contemplated the second book in the Spirit Song trilogy, he started a prequel with his partner of 35 years, Deb. That resulted in Argren Blue which appeared in May 2023.
Some might wonder why he took so long to find his calling in life, but he’s just grateful he did.
