Building Unstoppable Self-Confidence for Teens: The Fail-Safe Formula for Finding Yourself, Overcoming Limitations and Creating Your Best Life from the Inside Out

His work aims to inspire tweens, teens, parents, and families by providing motivational content and guiding them through the years that are often seen as the most challenging parts of both parenting and growing up.

As a young teenager, Derek struggled with self-esteem, bullying, and fitting in. As a father, he has attended countless groups and school functions and, along the way, has realized just how common his school experiences are. He is determined to make the turbulent waters of adolescence easier to navigate for other young people.

Derek is a musician by trade and toured the US for nine years after graduating high school, releasing six albums before the birth of his first child. He then moved into the restaurant business, managing a small team for over a decade. He has two daughters, aged 10 and 12, and a 13-year-old son.

Derek was born and raised in New York and currently lives in Connecticut with his wife, three children, and two cats.

  • E146 - Kerri McKinney - Co-Author of Depression Lied To Me - Thriving After Alcoholism

EPISODE 146 - Kerri McKinney - Co-Author of Depression Lied To Me - Thriving After Alcoholism

I used to be that girl.
The girl who was easily angered and bothered by even the littlest of things.

The girl who was jealous of everyone else and compared herself to every woman who walked by.

The girl who relied on every single person besides herself to make her feel validated and happy.

I thought it was everyone elses’ responsibility to make me feel loved and I immediately blamed others for any negative emotion that would start to take me over.

I had zero understanding or awareness as to how to control my big emotions and how to not let my feelings define who I was.

I lived with awful body-image issues for most of my life and tried every different diet pill I could get my hands on - I always avoided staring at myself in the mirror.

I suffered from extreme codependency and discovered alcohol at the young age of 12, which I quickly learned helped me to avoid feeling anything I didn’t want to feel (which was a lot).

I was ashamed about much from my past and tried hard to create the exact persona of who I thought others wanted me to be.

I was constantly depressed, filled with anxiety and always doing whatever anyone else thought I should do or what I thought others wanted me to do to get them to appreciate me and make me feel valued.

EPISODE 144 - Sandra E Hill - A Survivor Shares Her Story and Helps Writers Just Like You - Check Out Her Author Soup Recipe

    Our Guest -
After almost 40 years in one career, Sandra Hill is following her dream of being a life, business and career coach in my own company – New Horizen Coaching & Professional Growth Advancement. Part of her vision is to expand the benefits of coaching via other formats so not only does she host a weekly radio show, but she is also a speaker and trainer.

She writes articles for Forbes (Coaches Council), Lead Up for Women (magazine) and issues a quarterly newsletter. As a best-selling author on a coaching collaboration book with her peers, Sandra wanted to start writing short books that reflected a part of her own life journey hoping to inspire others to rise above their storms and find the sunshine. Some of the books will eventually have associated videos and webinar training designed to help others lead their more purposeful life. (That’s a hint to connect and follow me so you won’t miss out!)

E143 - Katrina McGhee - For Dummies Series - Taking A Career Sabbatical - When to Hit Pause on Your Career

    Welcome Katrina!

Katrina is currently writing a "For Dummies Series Book" about taking a break and Sabbatical!

Katrina is the Career Break & Sabbatical Fairy Godmother here to make your dreams come true.

As a certified master coach with an MBA, I help 9-5ers create successful, mind-blowing career breaks and fight through the fear of breaking from their conventional career paths to create a life that brings fulfillment, joy, adventure or whatever they are craving.

    My Story
As a young adult, I had it pretty good: the corporate job, a comfortable salary, generous company benefits. Or so it seemed.

I worked my way up the ladder across three large companies, earning praise and awards along the way.
    But something was missing.

I had a comfortable life that looked "successful" on the outside, but inside I struggled with an inner knowing that I was trapped inside a life that wasn’t really “me.”

    I felt restless and uninspired.

I knew a change was necessary but I wasn’t ready to make a big leap to figure out what I really wanted. Instead, I took the “safe” route of going to a top 20 business school. I thought if I did well, with my MBA and my newly-secured job at a fortune 500 company, I would start to feel fulfilled.
I would finally be living the life I had always wanted.

I worked hard and was good at my job, but I lacked the enthusiasm and strategy necessary to keep climbing the ladder. Plus I had this nagging feeling that things still didn’t feel right.

I knew I needed something different.

BONUS - Audible Pick - Storyworthy - Engage, Teach, Persuade, and Change Your Life Through the Power of Storytelling

A five-time Moth GrandSLAM winner and bestselling novelist shows how to tell a great story - and why doing so matters.

Whether we realize it or not, we are always telling stories. On a first date or job interview, at a sales presentation or therapy appointment, with family or friends, we are constantly narrating events and interpreting emotions and actions. In this compelling book, storyteller extraordinaire Matthew Dicks presents wonderfully straightforward and engaging tips and techniques for constructing, telling, and polishing stories that will hold the attention of your audience (no matter how big or small). He shows that anyone can learn to be an appealing storyteller, that everyone has something “storyworthy” to express, and, perhaps most important, that the act of creating and telling a tale is a powerful way of understanding and enhancing your own life.
