More than 20 years ago, Kelly Kaur was a poet. But, as is usually the case with aspiring writers, she also got plenty of rejection. So much so that she eventually let her literary ambitions slide to the background. Life happened. She concentrated on family and her career at Mount Royal University, where she has been teaching in the English department.

Like Simran, Kaur left Singapore to avoid an arranged marriage. She attended the University of Calgary and experienced a similar fish-out-of-water culture shock when it came to life in Alberta. 

“When the Griffin mission goes up to the moon, there’s going to be a NASA rover that is going up,” she said. “Peralta is also sending the books and the novels. They are going to go up on that same capsule at the same time. They stay up in the moon forever, these analogue/digital little batteries that will just be up there until someone finds them or not.”

The Book: Exit to Morvana
EXIT TO MORVANA

Do the painful disappointments in life make you wonder “Where is the exit door on this planet? Consider the tale of over worked, lonely Samantha who one day meets a mysterious Alien while visiting a metaphysical book store.

She eventually engages in a romance with him. He offers to take her to Morvana, a planet in the Andromeda galaxy where the people have such long life spans they are virtually immortal. The Morvanian civilization has suffered through all the trials and tribulations that planet Earth has and overcome them. 

This has resulted in a nearly perfect Utopian planet. The only catch is, Samantha must agree to leave Earth and everything she knows — forever. If you had such an opportunity, would you go?

What inspired you to write exit to morvana?

A: It started out as a book about our socioeconomic problems on this planet. But then I began to think that such a book would be both depressing and boring. This was 1997, and I had an hour and a half commute to and from the neighboring town I was working in. I had to pass by a lake where I had a UFO experience in 1989. I began to wonder what beings from another planet would think of us, and the way we treat one another. From then on I began making notes and characters in the story began to materialize.

Rebecca has long been a lover of stories and adventure. She started dictating short stories when she was three. Creating various scenarios was a frequent occurrence growing up, whether while playing by herself, with her siblings, or with her stuffed animals.

When she isn’t writing, she can usually be found spending time with family or roommates, participating in role-playing games or boffer sword-fighting with friends, taking a run, or enjoying the scenery in her native state of Utah.

Rebecca is a novelist with two novels that are published.
- Escape from Salmira is the first book of the Gemtouched Memoirs, available in paperback and ebook.

Hi, I’m Chelsie! I’ll never forget when I was about ten years old and my grandmother looked at me one day and said, “child, you get everything that comes down this family line.”

What was she talking about?

Blood sugar issues, inability to pay attention, gas, bloating, constipation, and nausea after meals. My doctors labeled these symptoms as IBS, hypoglycemia, and ADD.

The older I got, the more diagnoses I received. In college, it was anxiety, depression, hypothyroidism, and then came the dreaded perimenopause at age 27.
 
As a nurse, I realized that I was just like my patients – being told that medication and surgery was the way out. I was told I would have to live with it. That’s not an answer I was willing to accept.

One day it clicked. I thought, “what if there’s a better way?”

God created your body with an amazing capacity to heal itself when you give it what it needs. Most Western medicine is focused on alleviating symptoms without addressing the root cause.

It is said that the definition of insanity is doing something repeatedly the same way but expecting a different outcome. Is there an area in life you are unhappy with? Are there things in your life that you know you want and need to change but not sure where to start? Are you struggling in your relationship(s), your marriage, or single life?

Lord knows I’ve been there. All my life I saw all my friends thrive while I struggled every day just to survive. I was the product of divorce, raised in poverty (on some pretty rough streets) and thrown into special-ed for a minor speech impediment. At fourteen I moved out on my own and after years of therapy, tapping into my faith, self-examination, endless podcasts, books, hard work and determination found the true me and gained a whole new perspective on life.

I am very much a family man. When I am not coaching or public speaking, I love spending time with my family. I have a nine-year-old son and four-year-old daughter and they are my world. I love spending time with extended family.
