Lauren Barker wrote and directed her first feature film, Cohabitation, on a micro budget in Milwaukee, WI. The thriller had a successful worldwide festival run and won the award for Best Actress in a Feature Film (for Tiffany Streng) at the Milwaukee Twisted Dreams Film Festival. 

While at VFS, Barker wrote numerous projects including feature films, TV specs, short films, and comedy sketches. She also wrote and directed her first short film Smile, Baby  in Vancouver.

In 2018, she founded her production company, Green Rabbit Pictures, and directed her first feature film, Cohabitation. That same year, Barker began working as an assistant camera in order to further expand her experience as a filmmaker.

Reneau Peurifoy is an internationally known author, therapist, and teacher. Over his four-decade career he has written books that have been translated into multiple languages. He has also appeared on numerous radio and television programs as well as on many podcasts. The Anxiety Disorders Association of America (ADAA), the nation’s primary organization for anxiety-related problems, has invited him to speak at eleven of their national conferences.

Peurifoy’s ability to reduce complex ideas into simple, easy-to-understand terms and apply them to daily life can be seen in his books that have been translated into multiple languages. It’s also the reason he has been invited on numerous radio and television programs as well as multiple podcasts. One of the forces that drives his work is his desire to provide people with tools that can help them live happier and more productive lives.

Born and raised in California, Peurifoy received his master’s degree in counseling from the University of San Francisco.  It was during this time that he wrote his first book, Anxiety, Phobias & Panic: Taking Charge and Conquering Fear, that has now sold over 200,000 copies.

After publishing two more books that became known in multiple languages, Peurifoy retired from private practice to teach at a local college. He is now retired from teaching and has finished a new book, Why You Feel the Way You Do, that will be released in 2023.

More than 20 years ago, Kelly Kaur was a poet. But, as is usually the case with aspiring writers, she also got plenty of rejection. So much so that she eventually let her literary ambitions slide to the background. Life happened. She concentrated on family and her career at Mount Royal University, where she has been teaching in the English department.

Like Simran, Kaur left Singapore to avoid an arranged marriage. She attended the University of Calgary and experienced a similar fish-out-of-water culture shock when it came to life in Alberta. 

“When the Griffin mission goes up to the moon, there’s going to be a NASA rover that is going up,” she said. “Peralta is also sending the books and the novels. They are going to go up on that same capsule at the same time. They stay up in the moon forever, these analogue/digital little batteries that will just be up there until someone finds them or not.”

The Book: Exit to Morvana
EXIT TO MORVANA

Do the painful disappointments in life make you wonder “Where is the exit door on this planet? Consider the tale of over worked, lonely Samantha who one day meets a mysterious Alien while visiting a metaphysical book store.

She eventually engages in a romance with him. He offers to take her to Morvana, a planet in the Andromeda galaxy where the people have such long life spans they are virtually immortal. The Morvanian civilization has suffered through all the trials and tribulations that planet Earth has and overcome them. 

This has resulted in a nearly perfect Utopian planet. The only catch is, Samantha must agree to leave Earth and everything she knows — forever. If you had such an opportunity, would you go?

What inspired you to write exit to morvana?

A: It started out as a book about our socioeconomic problems on this planet. But then I began to think that such a book would be both depressing and boring. This was 1997, and I had an hour and a half commute to and from the neighboring town I was working in. I had to pass by a lake where I had a UFO experience in 1989. I began to wonder what beings from another planet would think of us, and the way we treat one another. From then on I began making notes and characters in the story began to materialize.
