Gorgeous is what comes to our minds when we smell this new extrait de parfum from Electimuss, which extends the range of their current offerings. Supremely textural, Pomona Vitalis begins with a juicy combination of sweet fruits intensified by bergamot, including apple, lychee, and strawberry. This is in celebration of the Roman figure Pomona, goddess of fruit trees, gardens, and orchids. Things shift gear as Pomona develops into a sophisticated fougere marked with contrasting cool and hot notes of lavender, geranium, sandalwood, and patchouli, to only then be spliced with an impactful rose note which seeps into the many folds of this fragrance. Blending Mysore sandalwood with highly aromatic basmati rice is at once surprising yet a totally expected manoeuvre from Affinescence, who, in this collection, dares to champion base notes and base notes alone. A fragrance that is overloaded with brilliant materials, a scent like this develops spectacularly, and becomes an experiment that allows us to observe the work move on the skin, without obscuring the many qualities of the base notes in the absence of adornment. Quando Rapita in Estasi by perfumer Filippo Sorcinelli is an operatic incense perfume inspired by a moment descending into madness, journeying the wearer through this sublime state until it gradually takes over to the point of ecstasy. In this video, Liam details the cool touch of incense as its umbrous effect fuses with the powdery and sweet skin of peach, the numbing fire of clove, and the gloriously severe green floral note of lily of the valley. Hilde Soliani, the Queen of Gourmands, demonstrates her incredible versatility with Peccatrice and 24.09.11, two fragrances that exist beyond the gourmand frame. Our Education Manager's personal favourites, Peccatrice is a sinful yet clever composition defined by cedarwood. Raspy yet yieldingly moreish, cedar supports a simple and effective arrangement of black pepper for sizzling spice, olive for contrast, and fennel for a refined spicy green touch. Peccatrice is a wood quite forward in its disposition. In contrast, the sacred 24.09.11 is a bubble of protection, a scented guardian angel made up of calamus, myrrh, incense, and amber notes. In dedication to her father, 24.09.11 is an intensely personal fragrance of affecting beauty, and for us, reimagines the classic amber category defined by Shalimar. With Jacques Fath's Curaçao Bay, we have a drop of warming sunshine to remind us of summer. A sophisticated melange of citrus fruits, the sharpness of lemon, the honey-like sweetness of orange, and clean yet bitter petitgrain come together and present the best of their respective parts, demonstrating brilliance in number. The gourmand category - broad and diverse - takes the wearer through many different notes and styles. In this episode, Liam and Kati detail three distinct variations of the theme. Maria Candida Gentile’s chocolate gourmand Noir Tropical plays with tones of malt, vanilla, almond, and boozy bourbon and rum. Softness is balanced with impact, to create a luscious and deep chocolate fragrance reminiscent of fine dusty cacao. Mistpouffer from the Swedish brand Stora Skuggan is at the very limit of edibleness, marked with notes of ozone, fig leaf, immortelle, pine, which creates many forms of green. Described as pebbles tumbled and coated in confectioner’s sugar and malt, Mistpouffer is a boom of smoke, sound, and texture. To conclude, White Madera from Omnia Profumi is calorie-free decadence, where white chocolate, vanilla, anise, and a surprise of coconut calls to mind a sponge cake of airy yet rich texture. Introducing our newest member of the LKNU Emporium team, in this video, our fragrance consultant Kati pairs up with Liam to introduce three distinct roses, underscoring its many virtues across differing fragrances. In Rose de Jamal (Les Indémodables), the rose note is suffused with Modernist touches, textured with additions of cedar, lavender, and spices. Cooling mint hovers over the work, to altogether create a rose that is at once overdosed, earthy and green. Next, Bulle de Rose (Les Parfums de Rosine) is a new offering from the historic house, and utilises rose to draw out soapy facets. Playful yet well composed, this is a floral wrapped in the creamy smooth opacity of a lather, reinforced with sandalwood. The magic comes from a dash of tomato leaf, adding warmth and an intoxicating verdant tint that lengthens these features. Finally, Rrose Selavy from Maria Candida Gentile is LKNU’s newest Surrealist and Postmodern rose, and is described by Kati as the “sort of rose a rose would wear”. Passionate and infused with a palpable sense of danger, the rose in this fragrance has a sharp disposition, and is built vertically, producing a great sense of severity and impact. In this episode, Kati explains how Le Rivage des Syrtes takes us on an olfactory journey to a fictitious kingdom where we are met by the scent of sweet orange and pineapple, lightly tempered by galbanum. As our boat slides along, ylang ylang, tuberose, and orange blossom become apparent, while a soft plume of incense reminds us of the Middle East.
