LnR 010 One of my . . . .
A common mistake is to say "one of my friend" instead of "one of my friends"; that is, to leave off the "s" on the noun after you say "one of". Here are ten sentences to help you practice this. Even if you don't make this mistake, you can still listen and repeat after me to improve your intonation. Try to follow how my voice goes up and down.
1. One of my friends is coming to town tomorrow.
2. One of my favorite foods is pizza. Another favorite is ice cream.
3. We are going to one of the best restaurants in Chicago to celebrate our anniversary.
4. Mom, can one of my classmates come over after school to play video games?
5. One of these questions is harder than the other.
6. There are three options. You have to choose one of them.
7. One of the most pressing problems in the world today is climate change.
8. Nelson Mandela was one of the top ten most-admired leaders of the 20th century.
9. Good news! One of us made the highest score in the final exam. Guess who it was!
10. One of my sisters is a doctor. And one of my brothers is a nurse. Me? I faint at the sight of blood! I work for the government, in an office.
