Coulda = could have

Woulda = would have

Shoulda = should have

We use these words in informal American English, such as when we are talking with friends. However, you should never write them! Your English teacher will give you a low grade if you use them in a formal essay. 

After the dialogue I talk about grading in different countries. For example, an 85 is an OK grade in the U.S., but in other countries it's a very good grade.

Dialogue

A: Hey. how did you do on the exam?

B: Well, I woulda (would have) made an 85, but I forgot to do the last page!

A: What?! How did that happen?

B: I guess I was careless. So stupid. I didn't even notice it.

A: That's awful. You shoulda (should have) checked every page before you turned the test in.

B: Yeah, I know. I coulda (could have) had a good grade, but instead I got a 65.

A: Well, at least you passed. You were lucky.

B: Yep. Next time I'm gonna (going to) be super careful.
