Joel found an article that identifies 7 characteristics of happier, older people.
As people age, they often display behaviors that contribute to their increased happiness and contentment.
Joel Elston has discovered the secret to finding happiness and contentment as he ages, while his friend Walt Thiessen still grapples with negativity at times. In their weekly conversation for LOA Today, Joel and Walt delved into why some grow happier with age while others stay miserable.
Joel explained that as he's gotten older, he no longer worries what others think of him. "I have zero concern what anybody else thinks about me at all on any level," he said. This freedom has allowed him to authentically live his life for himself. Walt noticed this perspective shift has brought Joel calmness and peace.
On the other hand, Walt acknowledged he still occasionally struggles when encountering something unpleasant. "There's that little piece of me that's fighting," he said ruefully. While outwardly practicing acceptance, an internal battle still rages at times.
When Walt asked Joel for advice on overcoming this negativity, Joel emphasized changing one's perspective. "What's in my control, what's not in my control?" he responded. Implementing daily gratitude also lifts one's vibration above negativity, according to Joel. "It's hard to do anything negative when you're in a grateful mindset," he pointed out.
The friends agreed shifting one's pattern incrementally is key to finding lasting happiness. "It takes time before you notice it," Walt noted. As the subconscious relearns positivity slowly, lasting change occurs. Both men hope to see happiness grow in future generations by embracing life's lessons.
